I recall that there was a Petrol Station in the DDR a couple of miles from the border on the opposite carraigeway. Many drivers would swing there cars over the grass verge between the motorways, fill up, then swing their cars back before venturing into Poland (my dad included). Really appreciate these vids...I am getting all sentimental. I might start telling he story of when we broke down in the DDR in 1987 (at the marker point 14,8 km) and were towed to Berlin.

I cannot recall that at all although the first time I was on this road was in 1992 - nearly three years after the end of the DDR.

Breaking down in the DDR would have been a very expensive item!!

There isn't. It's more towards the French I think? But I was on my way to Hartford using the M25 and my dad said "Hey look, there's a pole in front of us". I wouldn't say it was anti-Polish-sentiment, but more people just giving European countries their own nickname?
