i have two baby turtles, just got them and i do have a tank and basking area,, but only one will go on it, the other one seem to have trouble swimming after hes been swimming all day i try to show him he can go on the basking area but he jumps right off into the water,, should i let him go and leave him alone? or take him out of the tank and put him into something smaller 'till hes a lil bigger?? the are both 4 inch..

i have apainted turtle he hiss's at me.im wondering what to do about that.i give him lettace,bait (i know they eat it sometimes (not all the time))and special food sticks (basicly there pellets) and is that the right food?

@thelissa26 Hahah, don't worry my Painted, Lizzy, does that too. Was your pet once wild? Lizzy only hisses if I handle her or stroke her shell. Dried up bugs may also be a good snack for him. It's very normal that they hiss, but you shouldn't handle him too much, wild turtles may hiss if in captivity. Maybe let him get exercise, I let Lizzy run around my house in a rabbit exercise ball. He might just be a unhappy turtle. If you have any more questions, just ask me! :3 PS: Feederfish=:)

@idkwht2name I highly recommend reading Liz Palika's Turtles and Tortoises books. She has both a 'for Dummies' and a 'Complete Idoit's Guide To' , don't worry about the names, LOL, they are the most informative books I've come across so far. Just remember proper habitat and minimal handling so they don't get stressed. Keep 'em warm :) the exact temp depends on the species..also read Feeding Your Reptile, by Palika,

@idkwht2name most turtles like worms and fruit, Mango, stay away from citrus! No hot rocks, they can burn! Get a UVBand UVA bulb for 'em (careful at the petstore they always sell you the wrong ones!)The housing your turtle needs depends on the species, are they fresh water?

You need basking light so it can regulate temperature. It is cold blooded.

Without UV light and basking light (seperate lights) your turtle can't digest.

UV lights must be changed every six, but ideally every 3 months to maintain their UV spectrum.

@krazefrogg Def Agree with 111olbap..ReptiSun is a good brand, they normally sell UVA/UVB bulbs at most petstores, in the Reptile Section, be careful , because heat and 'multispectrum' bulbs don't always have the UV that they need!! Usually a heat bulb and a UV bulb are two separate things:) If you can't get a bulb message me :) Good Luck!

you just got it, it doesnt know where its at. leave it alone and let it get used to the tank. Then maby get a better light or atleast learn how to take care of them. They bask alot. If it doesnt eat maby its not hungry. try getting little fish, and turtle pellets to try out.

Poor water quality probably. :/ Shell rot is caused by stress and poor water quality and a few extra things. General rule. Dont follow youtubes advice.

u can try worms... make sure there the small ones under the small rocks, if that doesnt work ask the pet shop for some feeder guppies, they are the tiniest feeder fish and he would probably eat those.. i got my turtle 2 days ago and he never stops swimming, but is healthy

the turtle shown in this video has an orange line down the middle of it's shell and it has sort of a "roof peak" to it. Is this an example of "Pyramiding" that can happen to the shell as a result of over-feeding?

yea i have my painted turtle with my red eared slider in one aquarium tank.. i have had my red eared slider for about maybe two yaers. the one problem i had in the beggining when i first got my painted was that when i went to feed them my red eared was really greedy with his food. hes not so much anymore because thet've been together for a long time, for about two years now so... they dnt fight so im really glad they got along together.
