Amazing how much coasting takes place in a 36 second event. And the start is downhill. I know how hard these riders train, but very little pedaling is required. Bike handling skills seem to matter more in this event.

@MaxCruise73 Clearing those massive hills is a lot harder than pedaling. These tracks aren't much longer than a quarter mile, which for a trained athlete isn't an impossible task to sprint through. The trouble comes when you need to clear a 30 foot gap, not only does it require physical strength but you also need to have an insane amount of control over your body and bike.

Love Bmx racing i do the sport myself im at expert lvl which is pretty hard at 16 but fun and i know the 2nd and 3rd metal winers lots of fun you all should try this sport for the fun of it. Btw nice vid and be sure to watch for it again in 2012. :)

@allgoo19 the wider rims and tires are for more intense riding at a heavier weight. the heavier you are the thicker and stronger your rims and tires will need to be.

umm 3 parts of a bike will cost more then ur hole bike a frame can be around $600 wheel sets areound $300 each front and back. forks like $200 handle bars like $100 peddles like $150. cranks like $100 seat like $30 seat post like $50 head set like $150 grips $30. and thats not parts that are for the rich people. there average. rich people parts are insanely expensive. just for ur back hub would be $500 chirs king hub.

You do not *have* to be 4 years old, as a minimum age. There are three year olds racing locals (and clipping in before they're five), and I heard a two and a half year old made the main at some local out west. Diaper change just before staging (whereas, on the Olympic track, it was just after, for some :P ).
