Get an Alesis Andromeda, it's almost/nearly THE perfect Polymoog patch. Called Humana Numana on the original presets. Plus you can do so many other classic synth patches, and it's true analog. I think you would like it a lot.
@OFR The virus can do an authentic polyMoog sound, which I have since made, but not done a video of - the Virus can pretty much do anything... you just have to work out how to do it...
@AntonyBarton i have an andromeda and it sounds nothing like the polymoog, i had a virus ti2 also and it cant do the sound either, the virus is far too clean and thin, not to mention digital. If you want a polymoog sound, get the free samples from hollow sun, you will clearly hear the difference.
@cprostudio I already have multisamples which I use. The Virus can do it, you just don't know how to do it. The polymoog is actually really simple to replicate, you just need precise enough control over a couple of things.
Nice 1 I play this 1 in the key E as you do the same as Gary Nmn. I play loads of his stuff on keyboard I'm a HUGE fan of G N for years. I play J Jarr, Kraftwerk, record my own stuff. The Juno G has a sound called Combpad that sounds very much like what your using & like the polly moog. I've just done a CD of me singing & playing old classics that I do when I entertain elderly day groups but music is just a hobby. What other stuff do you do & what equipment are you using there. WELL DONE. Cheers
@spinatze Part of it already exists on the Virus as a factory preset (it is a multi patch I am playing). The other bit I'm afraid I'm not going to share...
@weegerri1sm Sadly I wont release this patch - BUT - if you want to hear it in person you need to watch out for gigs from my tribute band TUBEWAY DAYS - find us on myspace and facebook
Wow... I've heard this intro on "busted" & "non-busted" Polys, the former sounding deeply atmospheric, but the cover you've done is actually celestrial! Beautiful!
Sounds close, but not quite the same. A lot has to do with the analog phase. I have restored a polymoog 280a from the ground up and can honestly say that the sound you have is close. run it through a real analog phaser and you will sound much better.
You can almost imagine how blown away Numan must have been back in the 70's when he first came across a synth and put his guitar aside for a while to experiment.
This is very well done but why is everyone who can make this lovely sound playing the same song? There's two other polymoog versions on you tube. Why not try this sound in other pieces?
You're right, it would be interesting. But "vox humana" sound is perfect for these songs (slow, dramatic, mysterious). This song, for ex., uses a lot of dramatic chords and sequences based on sevenths and penthatonic scales(limited to 5 notes) and slow frequencies which induce the mind to a meditation state.
LordArsehat, I guess I need to educate you about synths. First off, if you claim that there is no vibrato in his patch (sounds close to the original to me), then you have to understand that that doesn't mean the synth can't do it, just that he didn't program it right. Don't blame the synth. The Polymoog keyboard only has 2 oscs and the Vox Human sound probably uses 3 LFO's. Using the same things in the same way on a digital synth will get you the same "never sounds the same" effect.
not bad chaps. you need two sawtooth waves slightly detuned each one having lfo added AT DIFFERENT RATES trust me you wont get closer to the vox humana polymoog preset unless you play a polymoog if you can actually programme a synth. that is the core of the sound' set cut off freq accordingly and keyboard tracking as desired.. you must be able to have independant lfo settings on each osc to obtain desired effect
WOW! These polymoogs sounds are just unique. I think gary was at the right time. For me the sound of later 80ies bands (with digital synths) are quite replacable or similar.
Very good, but its not got the power of a polymoog, the only synth ive used that stands out like a polymoog, not that it sounds 100% the same is my casio CZ5000, doing Numan type sawing string refs is the only thing I use it for,it standsout too much for anything else.
great sounds mate
