They have manipulated their currency placing American products- esecially high tech items out of reach for most Chinese. Nonetheless, Americans have begun to change. We have gone from a 0% individual savings rate to 6%. This may prolong our recovery, but will serve us well in the future. Most Chinese products are cheap, but not of high quality. (cont)

We were aware that China under Deng Xiaopeng wanted strong ties to the U.S. That they hold U.S. bonds only encourages positive relations. Bonds aren't gifts, China makes money. There is also a faction at State Dept. wanting to see China continue to develop into a more technologically advanced country. Their currency being so under-valued makes that difficult.

Further, we forget that probably 6-700 million Chinese are living a 3rd world existence and are desperately poor. The political status quo will have to change. Next, China has few commodities. It is pushing its new weight around in places like Africa, & much like the U.S. a century ago is getting a bad rap for arrogance, & corruption. The Chinese bubble may burst. We don't want that. In any case, if threatened in a conventional war, the U.S. would utterly destroy China in short order.

By the way accents in Australia differ from region to region. In my region I could easily be mistaken for a South African its the influence on the accents (a lot of Dutch and South African immigrants live in my city)

I am an American living in Perth. I love Australia and its people!! I have lived in England, Canada, Brazil, Norway, France and Australia. I found the Canadians and the Australians the friendliest and the French were the rudest. (I traveled outside of Paris and most of the people living in smaller French cities were very nice, but not those living in Paris).
