No, I don't think it was mistranslated... actually, Holy WAS having the opposite effect. It's like when antibodies can't fight the disease, but they keep trying and build up and kill you. Meteor was beyond stopping, but the overkill effort Holy was putting in was not only useless, it was destroying Midgar (at least, that's what I read somewhere...)
Well now that I think About it, when ki'daj (or however the hell you spell his name.) shoves Jenova's head into himself, Clouds really just fighting jenova in the form of Sephiroth? So Sephiroth never acutally talks until Crisis Core? Well actually Kingodm hearts, but for all we know, that jenova too! By the way, nice melons Tifa.
I hate this ending because it basically admits that the game was pointless. Holy didn't do anything, the party didn't do anything to help save the planet--the planet saves itself. Besides being a huge Deus Ex Machina, it means that the characters could have stayed at home drinking coffee and playing board games, and it would have turned out just the same. Great storytelling (sarcasm).
@laserwolf65 But it seems the purpose of the characters wasn't so much to save the planet anyways. Wasn't that what they said in the highwind? That as much as they would like to say it was for the planet then they primarily had personal reasons. You know, feel special, save friends and families, save Aeris who maybe had a hand in the lifestream coming out, revenge and what not. And then all the small sidequests in which they helped people and released shinra's hold of the planet.
@laserwolf65 If they didn't fight Sephiroth, he would still be merging with the LifeStream and the planet wouldn't be able to save itself. So if they didn't fight Sephiroth? Sephiroth would have made the planet his vessel and use it to sail the cosmos.
@Drag0ncl0ud From all the sources I've seen, the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs supposedly had an impact velocity of around 7 miles per second, or over 25,000 miles per hour.
holy was helping the meteor. holy is like the parent of the planet, it only wants whats best for it. by destroying midgar/humanity it would keep the planet alive longer. the most geographical damage the meteor could do was cause a big meteor (like in northern crater). the planet however didnt want that to happen because it knew the value of life, (plus the lifestream was made of life).
"Holy" - on the other side - has to be the love, which is holy in a pure sense (like real ment charity), but its too late for love to destroy the seeded hate. So the whole lifestream has to intervene. And mankind returns to its real destination, in being part of lifestream.
I hope, my try of explanation is understandable in all possible ways.
I guess, the final shows the end of mankind as two-legged-beings. Everything ends in Lifestream (Its like in Avatar). Human beings had forced the destruction of planet through misusage of Life, destruction and greed. But Life itself can never be evil in its final meaning. And so the human life energy, which is in a buddhistic like way no different from any other lifeenergy, goes back to "lifestream".
hah has anyone noticed the highwind starts off as a helicopter, then transforms into a commercial jet, and finally for emergency uses transforms again into a much faster jet.
So in the end...Aerith saves the world. And then again in Advent Children...or at least she helps Cloud. She's just Super Ancient isn't she. How is it that she got the power to control the world? lol There are a million and one people in the lifestream anyone of them should have done and Aerith's the only one who did it. Nice.
Well, think about it. The whole Lifestream could be needed to stop the Meteor. ANd guess who's gonna be there? Sephiroth. He just absords the Lifestream to himself.
And the Holy part is propally misstranslation because the gravitational pull is too much to hold Meteor still by Holy
Yay! The world is saved! Looks like Aeris came through in the end after all :P
I was wondering, @ 0:56 was that Aeris's hand reaching to help return Cloud's soul to his body? Or was that in Cloud's mind, and Aeris was trying to bring Cloud back?
@ 2:07 I know Barret was saying Heeeey! But it was like he was saying: "Hey you guysssss!!" would have made a good Electric Company reference, that was funny.
Was the half naked female on the highwind some kind of fan service? lol
@xvideoxgamerrx Its not another holy. Its the lifestream saving the planet before more than the city is destroyed. Think about it tho. What is every living things basic instinct? Survival! If your life was threatened wouldn't you attempt a last ditch effort to save yourself. Planet=Living being in this game that is. So it uses the lifestream to save itself.
The line with Holy having the opposite effect is not a mistranslation. It's not quite clear even in the Japanese dialogue, but it means that Meteor is too close to the planet and Holy is actually harming the planet with its destructive power instead of helping. When the Lifestream comes out of the planet it probably bounces Meteor away and lets Holy take care of it from a safe distance.
I think the last battle was in fact the REAL Sephiroth in body and mind, as you can see when you saw Sephiroth "Sleeping" in the Crater earlier in the game, he did not have any coat on him, so this was the same Sephiroth "Sleeping" in the crater, meaning it could've been the real Sephi, bodified!
That's just what I was thinking! I was wondering about that battle for a long time, but since they defeated the "real" Sephiroth I was like wtf is he still alive?! But yeah your probably right about that being the last remnant's of Sephiroth's influence in Cloud's mind. Cloud defeated his fears and a painful part of his past, kind of inspiring, at least to me.
Well, technically the planet/Holy wanted to let Meteor through... It was the combined conciousness of the lifestream, and I think something Areis had to do with it.

...They were optional characters..but ahd good lines and contributed to the storyline very well i think..was glad to see Vince and Yufi in FF AD.. thx for all ur help in All ur vids Bailly :)
Didn't they say the meteor was aimed at the planet's wound? I think with all that environmental talk, the city might've been the real wound or something like that.
dude, when you said we didnt have to do anything at all and that the planet fixed it itsself your wrong...aeris is an ancient and she has the power to show the world the promised land and thats what she did
Cait Sith is a doll being controlled by a guy at midgar, right? More specifically the Shinra building
We see it being smacked up pretty hard in the ending sequence, yet Cait Sith takes time to talk. Did I miss something? Last time I played was about 7-8 years ago, so I probably did miss something...
it was funny. For some reason my friend had the counter attack materia on and so instead of omnislash Cloud just counter attacked and killed him XD. The massive amounts of the cuts he had made no sense and he was greatly disappointed

i think meteor WAS supposed to hit the crater but shinra's suicide rocket threw it off course.

Didn't they say the meteor was aimed at the planet's wound? I think with all that environmental talk, the city might've been the real wound or something like that.

that makes sense to me...

Um I believe the question is why aren't all female leads in games endowed with such grand "personalities".
