My family has one of these, its great. Its almost comical how a large family car can get such a huge grin on your face when you drive it. Its nice to beat people of the line in the lights aswell, since most people think its just a boggo diesel.
The smax is the dogs bollocks even my 2ltr td is amazing . In the six months ive had it from new the only fault i can call is that reverse can be a bark to engage but even that can be put down to my banana like fingers. This car pisses all over the s type jag i swapped it for . Ford have really upped their game with their new range of motors oh and if driven carefully i can get 50 plus to the gallon.
The volvo 2.5T 5cyl engine is truely an amazing engine, remapped become 265+ bhp why the hell are ford replacing it with a 4cyl 2.0T ??? amazes me to be honest
@TheAdWrighty because the new ecoboost 2.0 turbo is more ecconomical and therefore cheaper to tax. It is designed for the american market where it puts out 265 bhp, unfortunately the UK version is de-tuned to about 200 bhp. But then again, the 2.5t which ford call the ''I5'', is a detuned version of the volvo ''T5''. Both can be chipped up to about 265 bhp, but the ecoboost is cheaper to run giving the same power, best of both worlds
@cglees You see I like these so much because my dad has this engine in his mondeo, well its his second mondeo, the first one ended up on its roof. I know all about the chipped ecu as he had a bluefin fitted which on his first one (as it was one of the first of the new mondeos 08 plate) gave 260bhp. His second one he remapped with bluefin again to 270bhp which is stunning in a mondeo estate. That is a real sleeper. Standard car the spec says 150mph, remapped hes hsd 160mph on the clock.
Ford and Volvo using the same engine is nothing new, I've driven the smax and I love it, fantastic 5 seat family car with two boot seats which are fine for kids or ok for adults on short journeys. But it's not a sport car why get excited over the engine, want a fast car then get a fast CAR!
Ford OWNED volvo so actually volvo engines were actually ford engines..
Actually even in a new aston martin i can't remember which version but i thought it was a DB9 or so, they just put 2 heavy ford mondeo engines under it's hood
Okay didn't know that .. But the thing of the 2 mondeo engines is indeed true i can garantee you that. It was in a top gear like car magazine .. But can't remember which aston martin it was placed in
@Bridport6705 it is the same block, but not exactly same engine. The focus st uses the original volvo T5. The new mondeo and the smax use a detuned version called the I5. Ford owned volvo and therefore owned the right to use that engine, but it is not putting out anywhere near the same power as the focus ST. It can however be remapped by bluefin to 265bhp

its no volvo engine.. its just basically that unique 5 cyl sound that you get on the ST, Fiat Coupe, Volvo s60, s40, audi S2, quattro..

Wow, and that for a 7-persons car!
The S-Max 2.5 Turbo really is the best car that Ford ever made.
