@falsetdotto this process also works for a rendered image sequence. Render your image sequence using cycles, and save them as .png files. Then, when you change back to blender internal, change the input node to "sequence" rather than "image". Set the start and end frames, and render once more.
I don't understand why cycles is so wonderful. It always comes out grainy. I've seen crisp images, but I have no idea how they accomplish that.

@bnewton81 You need to turn up the amount of samples. More samples = less noise.
