  • great song. i've worked in factories for 25 years and this song and video pretty much describes a typical old factory.

  • I miss that place im from Flat river which is a part of Park HIlls.

  • I live in St. Louis. an hour away from here.I've been going to the state park that is connected to the factory to ride bikes and camp for years. You are not supposed to go in there w/o permission but we found a way in. It's amazing inside and all around the facility. Nobody of course touches or takes anything of course.Deep in the hills of the park you will still find old mining shacks that are still standing. You still see writing on the walls from the 1930's.Nobody vandalizes those either.

  • i go there with my dad and he really wants to see it where do u go to get there

  • I always thought this song was just an Irish Traditional song, i used to sing it in singing competitions throughout England and Ireland, Well was made to. I've never heard it sung this way, very different. Lovely ;-)

  • Thank you for your comment. It's nice to hear your fresh perspective on the song...

  • ...Ppl used to hv to work so hard! We still do, but not physically so hard!!! At least not most of us.

I remember how i listened to this song in the morning before my brother got married. Now they hv 2 lovely sons! For me this song will always mean 2 things: a)my ancestors who worked hard; hard physical labour b)my bro and his lovely bride getting married... So bittersweet.

  • Yep it truly is a beautiful song. And the patterns we all live out in our lives are equally as beautiful, regardless of if we work hard or not so hard. Part of being human is 'the struggle' be it physical or mental. The other part, or course, is love :-)

  • Wow this song is SO incredibly beautiful - I wonder who the singer is? I've only previously heard this sung by Sinead O'Connor (very well, I must add!). Great video!! I hv relatives who worked in mines in the USA. And my grandfather didn't work in a mine, but did hard labour all his life (when he wasn't forced to go to fight at wars) and he is my hero. I will never forget my roots. I may hv a Uni degree but my flat was bought on my grandfather's savings.

  • Music is "Factory Girl" by Al-Pha-X. I'm sure if you google up Al-Pha-X you'd be able to find the singers name.

  • The young lady in this video is my girlfriend, and today we went to visit her Grandfather. He was one of the last two people to actually work at this St. Joseph Mine in Leadington, MO. It was quite an interesting conversation.

  • I moved to Leadwood, MO now and live about 6 miles from this place I think. I'm planning to go back perhaps in the fall and take shots from inside the place. The curator there has said that they could work it out so that I could come back and actually go inside the buildings next time.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • hey I live in park hills mo where that mine is finaly the place is on the web I heard they are going to fix up those old buildings

  • Thanks, I've contacted at administrator at the mines and he's told me that I could come and take shots from inside the buildings this year sometime soon, so I'll be going back again in a month or so.

I live in Leadwood, MO now. Moved here about a month ago. About two months after I made this video.

Thanks for writing, nice to hear from you.

  • AWESOME video! This takes me back to several of the factories in State of MD that have shut down over the years and most are still standing vacant. Always looking forward to more of your work. Keep up the excellent footage and as always "Keep It In The Wind!"

  • I really enjoy hearing your comments. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on my video's.

Yeah old Iron and bring always reminds me of Allentown, PA for some reason.

    Take Care Friend!

  • Such a lonely building -- forlorn. Would make a great movie set!

Still -- very oddly -- all that rust, broken glass and those sharp angles have a certain silent wail that's weirdly beautiful -- the beauty of gradual decay and the passage of time. Hard to explain.

Very nice perspective shots! And the music really fits, too. (As always -- you have a knack for picking totally appropriate tunes for your pix.)

  • It's a GREAT location for off angle perspectives, I've recently requested to somehow be allowed to shoot from inside the buildings looking out, which I'm sure if 10x more dramatic in morning or evening light. Keeping my finger crossed that I'll be able to do that.
