  • NO MORE HIGHWAYMAN? SAY IT AINT SO!

    "Fine" ingredients like -- BUTTER!

Domino's Pizza now at WaldenSoftware and ComputerBiz! I'll remember that!

I saw a video here just last week that really opened my eyes to the TG16 and how good it REALLY was. Too bad it got a dumb American name and the NES and Genesis ate it up!

Who would wait for Thin Man and Clark Gable?

The quicker Mounds and Almond Joy imitator -- Bounty!

  • Hearing my Aunt's stories about being in Santa Cruz during that earthquake made me swear I'd never live in California back when I was a kid.

...and now, 22 years later, I end up living in Los Angeles. XD

  • @LenaAndreia I'm curious to know what her stories are about. I'm from Santa Cruz and was five when the earthquake hit and from my perspective it wasn't that bad here. A lot of old brick buildings downtown were damaged and had to be torn down, but San Francisco had it much, much worse in terms of death and damage.

  • @80sCommercialVault

Oh, her house didn't fall down or anything, but she had a fair amount of damage from the way she told it. I remember her telling my mom how she was in the kitchen and the cupboards all flew open and she ended up getting cut up pretty bad by flying glass. I was five and had a vivid imagination, so I probably imagined it much worse than it was, but the suddenness of earthquakes always made me a little scared to come to California. I've gotten over it now.

  • @LenaAndreia I guess it depends on which side of town you were on. Our house was up near the University and only a few glasses in our china cabinet broke and the cover on our upright piano flew across the room. We were also told that our chimney was unsafe to use (which we later found was not true). I suppose older houses closer to the epicenter had it much worse.

  • @80sCommercialVault That could be it. I'm not sure where she lived, but I'm pretty sure it was an older house based on some photos she sent us. That's cool you guys didn't have too much damage!

  • I had this taped for the longest time myself. My parents migt still have a copy. I remember that song "Trick or treat, trick or treat for Halloweeeenn..." catchy

so, isn't "Bounty" just a Mounds bar?

those Pumpkin Kutteers never cut worth beans for me

Entennman's isn't nearly as good as it used to be, I don't think

  • How come nobody jumps for Toyota anymore?

  • Just a few days after the big quake hit the area.

  • I remember those "This is NOT your father's Oldsmobile" commercials, they had two Star Trek ones that I can remember. One with Christie and William Shatner, and one with James Doohan and his daughter. Priceless.

  • Is that Edward Herrman doing the voiceover in the Sonata commercial?

  • @holbrooke7

I believe it's Fred Gwynne. He did a number of voice overs for their ads back then.

  • I loved Turbo Grafix 16!!! Bonk's Adventure & Keith Courage were my favorites. R.I.P Mervyn's. And I am a survivor of the Loma Prieta Earthquake. I was 12 years old and we just had picture day that day in 6th grade. Can't believe that was 22 years ago...WOW!!

  • Turbo Grafix 16 was so awesome, but I never got it for Christmas because my parents could not believe how expensive. Instead, got Genesis and loved it.

  • Here I am watching this on October 29, 2011. Pretty cool to see some of these old commercials. Thanks for uploading!

  • I'm lucky so far that my original TG-16 console still works

  • The commercial with Peter and Amanda Graves is cute. I can see why he was angry about what the movies did to his character.

Not sure why they need to keep flashing up "Mervyn's Cheetah 'Jacqui'" and "Fury" title cards for that shoe commercial. It gets so distracting as you try to figure out whether they're saying the shoes are supposed to be called Cheetah "Jacqui" or "Fury".

    Is Lucky still around?

  • @CarlD2 "Jacqui", "Fury" and "Coach" were the names of the shoe models being advertised.

Lucky is still around, though it was bought out by Albertsons and disappeared for a few years.

  • @80sCommercialVault I thought those were probably the names, I was just trying to figure out why they needed names, if someone would go into a store and say, "I want a Jacqui." But I liked the commercials, they told a solid story in a short time.

  • Amazing. I nev ver thought I'd be feeling nostalgia for Mervyn's and Long's Drugs.

22 years later and that segment of the Bay Bridge that collapsed in the quake is still standing. Crossing it is a pretty stressful experience, especially in traffic.

  • mmmmMMMmmmm bounty bars:P

  • that bounty candy bar looks good lol

  • Launching a sail plane with a Toyota Pickup, interesting...

  • Ah, Pumpkin Kutters. While it's true they wouldn't cut you, they also required more time and arm strength to cut the pumpkins as well - meaning our dad would have to carve our pumpkins anyway. Eventually, even he threw the thing out and reached for a real knife.

  • I clicked on the timer thingy just to find the aerobics shoe commercial.

  • 07:10 HA! Avoid the Noid :-)

  • i have a great urge to buy cheetah sneakers now

  • the post-earthquake ads in are gems. but i love em all, the cornier the better.
