As well as the bands on the 'live at the Electric Circus' release' (incl. Warsaw), Manc. legend Jon the Postman played as did the Negatives. I also seem to remember a band called 'the Swords'? but hey, I was just a little 'betrunken'. I still have my little red ticket somewhere . . .
There always used to be a guy down there dressed in full teddy boy drapes/crepes dancing rock n roll with his dark haired 50's dressed girlfriend. Fantastic times and fantastic memories (except for the local kids throwing half bricks at you as you queued up and paddling to the the toilets which were often swimming in a couple of inches of urine . . . .
I was at this gig, and still have the flyer from Granada TV , I saw the Buzzcocks many times in the late 70's. Attended both nights as they closed the Electric Circus. Magazine played their first Gig and the Buzzcocks closed the show, Pete Shelley saying something like "if they build another Electric Circus let's hope they make it a better place than this shit hole".
This clip actually helped to get me into punk when I was about 13... the solo is great in particular. Yngwie Malmsteen eat your heart out!! The wrong chords after the solo are a nice touch too...
pete shelley with his broken starway guitar! it only has half a body, the top broke off when dropped it once! eastwood made a limited run reissue of this guitar
I was there that night...front row...Penetration, the Buzzcocks AND the Jam...Oh, and Tony Wilson (RIP)...free admission too! Didn't have a clue what I was witnessing but knew it was fucking good...Oh and Elvis died that night...fate eh?
well nice to see the Eletric Circus I lived in the collyhurst flats nearby the venue was a great place to rob the punks when they left, its all in my book "Grfaters"
I was unaware of the availability of those early videos ! What great material ! OK, there's a weird slip at the end of the solo, ut who cares ! Great sound, superb images, except Pete's tie of course.
