@aeo087 can i do the same thing with galaxy GT-S5670? my phone is bricked. i flashed cyanogenmod 7 and my phone got bricked. so instead of unbricking it can i directly flash the original firmware in my phone?
PLS ANSWER THIS FAST =[.... I bought a brand new samsung galaxy 8gb and i check the firmware and the phone, pda and csc ends with different characters...like the... PDA:I9000XWJFF PHONE:I9000XXJP CSC:I9000TMNJF7 and i cant ipdate it to 2.2 froyo... is that the reason why i cant update it using kies? should i flash the firmware? PLS I NEED HELP =[
I flashed my phone to some firmwaer i downloaded.. now samsung released an update but if i connect my phone to Kies it tells me that i couldnt do an update on this firmware...
someone told me that i had to get the official firmware from kies so i could get the official update.. is that true?? And if yes, where can i get this firmware??
Btw: I am from switzerland and i bought my phone maybe 10 months ago...
hi im am going to buy this phone and i really dont understand much of this flashing thing .So can someone explain me the steps of doing it.I mean should i first root it or not?whats the first thing i need to do with it when i buy it and whats the last?and do i need an extra external sd card?
I tried updating my JM1 to JPM using this method, however ODIN failed. There was no progress bar on my phone. I waited for quite a bit, then I unplugged and restarted. When teh phone started, it wouldnt recognize my SIM card, so I reset my phone and restarted. Now everything force closes on startup and I can't use my phone. I;m freaking out, PLEASE HELP :((
I was able to flash this to the Captivate but the screen is always set 90 degrees off; ie When I hold the phone vertically it sets itself in landscape mode. I don't know what that's all about.
You may be able to flash the PIT and stock captivate kernal over it and fix it, but I haven't persoonally tried it yet.
Any one able to get this to work on the captivate?
@nasdreas Well you can wait for samsung to make an official release, which should be coming soon, or you can flash the beta firmwares that are in the samsung-firmwares website. I am currently running JM2 and it's great, it has some nice new features including a very handy task manager.
@nasdreas should you immediately flash the phone, not really neccessary, personally i would wait until it is officially released. lets face it the samsung i8910, NEEDED a flash update, it got so laggy. The thing you need to remember that the firmware is a BETA, so any small annoyances and such wont be ironed out yet and the firmware wont be spot on despite the handful of improvements it may present.
One question: I'm getting the samsung Captivate (ATT version of the galaxy s) and wanted to know if I can just install the same rom onto that phone? The reason is this: When you get the captivate you are required to sign up for one of the new data plans which are not unlimited anymore. I was hoping I could "mask" the phone by installing the galaxy s firmware on it so I can then get the unlimited data plan since ATT won't recognize this as the samsung captivate/smartphone anymore. Thanks!!!

@sanjayschulz I'm not sure about the captivate. I've read it can be rooted in the same way as the international Galaxy S... I suggest you go to the xda-developers forum and check the section for the Captivate, you'll find more information there.
@aeo087 Admire the effort of making a great tutorial. I'm curious about the new XWJG5 FW. First of all... have you tried it, if you did how much faster is it from the last update you are using and is the stall fix needed (fixed in the JG5) after JG5 flash? On some forums they say that the memory management has been fixed with this update. Is that true? Thanks!
@rudi93600898 JG5 seems very promising, I flashed it a couple of days ago. So far i'm running it stock and have yet to see any blank screens or noticeable lags; I've only installed a couple of apps so far though... The change-log says they improved standby battery life and improved memory management. There's a new stall fix that greatly improves the phone's I/O, i'll be trying that as soon as I get my new SD card. I'll try to make a video tutorial when I'm successful.
@fallingup79 I unfortunately don't know much about the vibrant, but xda-developers opened up a section for it in their forums. That'll be your best bet to find more information.
@fallingup79 Hold volume up and volume down while pressing the power button... It doesn't always work on the first try but keep doing it. It took me about 6 tries. Just pull the battery when it boots to the tmobile screen
@fallingup79 if you can get to adb, you can just do "adb reboot download" but make sure it's on com7, i think it's the most important...mine was on com4 and it wouldn't flash and was stuck on "do not turn of your target" message....then i bricked it..and can't get to the download mode... :(
@lordzebdeh mine too...and the usa version can't get to download mode from brick....so no retryin to flash it....no home button to get intow download mode... :( unless i can find a way to get it into dl mode
Thanks for the videos... now I am off to do MCR R2... this made me feel much more comfortable (at least when it was my g1 I knew I was going to get a new phone soon, but now that it was brand new it had me scared all over again)
People always take about someone bricking their phone. Do you have any link to someone who has? because I've never seen anything about anybody managing to do so.
@edinho0808 That's the firmware mine came with. You can flash european firmwares, but you will lose the Asian languages and get the European languages. I usually re-partition if I'm flashing a new or different firmware from the one I currently have, if I'm flashing the same firmware, I don't....
great video dude .. would i need to flash my phone ?? and with wat would it help .. and does installing roms done in the same way .. thanks alot ..thuimbs up ..
@siclusiferx I have another video on installing a rom. The only reason you should update to the JG1 firmware would be to install Modaco's MCR r2 rom, or because you want to get rid of the software your carrier put on your phone and just have what samsung included. When I have time I'll make a video on the advantages to upgrading firmware, rooting, and installing custom roms.
@aeo087 ohhh mannnnnnn thanx alot for the reply ..well i guess i hav to read more and more .. thanx alot again and it would be much appreciated to see such a video .. cheers
@zaffe93 You can update to the latest one. In my case I got the phone from Singapore and it had JF4 with a lot of unwanted software from the carrier... I flashed JFB and it removed all those unwanted apps and logos, leaving me with only the stuff Samsung included in their original firmware and also noticeably improving the performance of the phone...
have you tried flashing with a firmware for this model?
At 1st, i was able to root my phone successfully, used superuser and BusyBox from my previous firmware. Everything was going well until i upgraded it through Kies. and my phone ws unrooted. have u rooted this kind?
Respond to this video... awsome video...i hope you can give some korean firmware a try which there are a lot of units out there with my problem regarding flashing rooting...

Also, do I need a CSC that is the same as the one the phone came with?

Just updated mine. Thanks. Nice tutorial!
However, I had to use the *.pit file supplied with the firmware set and not the **513.pit version supplied with Odin
I initially got a blank screen on reboot after the Samsung logo finished
My firmware is now JG5 (up from JF3)
Equally, I have also ran Ryans APK lag fix and the phone is flying now!
