one word... STEVE NASH. i could easily grab 10 of nash's assists and have them top this #1 anyday.... not to mention these were all filmed with potatoes.
what about peja to bobby jackson and where is jason williams? His elbow pass was at the rookie all star game so one can argue about that, but he had better assists then the one by MJ. Also what about wade to lebron for the full court alley oop? I guess one cant make a top 10 all time assists just got to be 20 or so...
@badlikeme79 Williams' elbow pass doesn't qualify, because: A. His elbow pass was just a pass. The receiver didn't finish the play with a score, so it wasn't an assist; B. It wasn't during an official game, but during the Rookies vs Sophomore game of 2000.
Number two was the best... a no-look behind the back bounce pass through traffic?! A lot of the other other assists were made possible by bad defense.
@AYC34 huh? that was probably the worst defense in the whole list. there were literally 3 unguarded players under the basket. you learn in elementary school that weak side drops down. that's a fundamental. it was still a dope pass but that was funny you said all the OTHERS were because of bad defense lol the best pass by far was #3
@DroppinKnowledge69 Are we talking about the same play? The Larry Bird Play? He has two players on him and a third drops down trying to stop the pass. It 's a lot harder to make a great play against a set defense in the half-court than open court pass in transition like the Pistons play.
@AYC34 naw that wasn't a half court defense, that was off a offense board. that drop down was late. i'm just calling it like i see it. not trying to argue or nothing...
Thank you for the video, however any greatest assist reel from this era has to include at least one glimpse of the spectacular passing from Pete Maravich's career.
People, please... stop fucking asking why there's no Nash, no Jason Williams, etc... Read the fucking description. It's the first sentence, you don't even have to click the "Show more" button to read it: "The greatest assists in the first 50 years of the NBA".
I'm trying to figure out how #3 isnt #1. He fucking curve balled the ball from the other side of the court. That shit cannot be duplicated yet the other 9 can.
@NanmanTheGreatOne What "curve ball" did you see? He passed to a guy who touch passed it behind his back to Rodman for the dunk. Insane play, no doubt, I would've had it at #2, but there was no "curve"...
Not to be disrespectful or anthing but half of these assists are overrated, dwyane wade made a 92 ft long pass to james, that just makes #8 look like a fat ladys purse
@singhabhishek083 yea but stockton did that during the finals game 4 during the last seconds to give the jazz the lead and essentially win them the game. It was clutch as all hell. They probably took a lot of things into account when making the list. But you're right wade had a nice pass to james also I saw that.
@Messupbros I disagree, both were great point guards, Stockton averaged a few more assists and steals in his career, Steve averaged a few more points and is/was a better freethrow shooter as well as a 3pt shooter. And don't forget he's a part of that "50, 40, 90" club that only a few are in. He's actually has had more then one season where he's averaged those number. Saying he's a "poor mans Stockton" is disrespectful and untrue. Both were amazing.
@BeliefsAndObsessions Steve nash dosnt play deffence man! steals does not tell the tale of deffence Nash didnt play both ends Stockton did! John would kick his trash cause he can pass to anyone like nash he has a good shooting percenteages and skills like nash but the one thing nash cant do is guard :) so Stockton would tear him up :) Because go look up Gary payton stockton was up to par with him in deffence :)
the reason why these are guys are on here is because they basically helped create the game and if it were'nt for these guys nash, kidd, rajon they would'nt even know how to a behind the back pass..
nash CANT do the passes that magic could. he is one of the greatest pg's though but you cant underestimate the players shown is this video: stockton, magic, bird are all basketball geniouses
totally missing a few... I hated Starbury, but he had a pass once from the top of the key where he spun 360, that was cool. and though it's new, and I hate them, but the Wade-to-Lebron full court alley-oop was just ridiculous.
@LittleFundamental dude number five is the best Most people are probably gonna be like im just saying it because its michael jordan But that move fricken fooled me i seriously thought he was gonna like hesitate right
no.8 was the cleanest baseball pass ever. even baseball players cant do that. and that pass also symbolises john stocton's game itself, not flashy, definitely not, but with elegance and beautiful to the eye meanwhile yet managing to maintain purposefulness.
nash is not magic....sorry. shit larry bird passed better than anyone today! actually thats what i think is majorly bad about the NBA. EVERYONE used to have to be a good passer. not anymore....
that gave me a great respect for bird...
