Good for George! The mellophone resembles a french horn, but has pistons instead of rotary valves, and a much bigger mouthpiece. As a trumpeter/cornettist who bought an old one to expand my craft a little, I can say it deflates your ego a bit, 'cos trumpeters who seem to want a punchy blast, find that a mello is just that- super-mellow. It fills out a band's sound, but doesn't cut through all that well.
