Let's not forget the fact that this is one of the few anime that utilize actual intellectual strategy(not that instant turnabout bullshit that every other "smart shonen" anime uses) in their deathmatches. That's what justifies the gore in my opinion.
That's what makes the Manga in particular so fantastic. All of the fights involve actual strategy, not "Oh, I found my inner resolve, lulz now I'm like 50 times stronger".
The gore just adds realism. And it's not just eye candy.

Anyways, if you'd actually see the fuckin' series, you'd see that the characters have creative uses of their skills which makes it so you see crazy shit happen and it's justified.
For example, one guy has the power to slap zippers on shit and open anything up. At first he looks like a stupid character, then he uses it to make X-shapes and rip people into pieces.
So you're right, it's not strategic. It's creative.
@flaksucks there is a pretty big difference in "actual" things and things that arent "actual". gravity is "actual". things really fall down on this planet. you use the word "actual" to make things more fun? do you use words like "mathematically" to make numbers seem more fun too? there is a big difference between the "actual" world and the "anime" world.

I mean, if that's the case, why even bother drawing people accurately? It's not like they're real, fuck everything, right? I'll just draw circles where their heads are and call it a day.
Look, I like JoJo for having an abstract sense of realism despite it being fiction. Not all anime is hurfendurfen magic and lasers.

I agree to. Most manga just need their characters to believe in themselves, and charge their lasers for 20 chapters or episodes.
In Jojos everything is crazy complex strategy, and the plots become just as complex later in the series.
