huh? can we even call this music anymore? i mean, i know the whole 'gold fish in a blender is art' and 'fart on a snare drum and call it music' subjectivity of things, but there's no repeating measures and when you thing its going to crescendo and climax into some heavy beat, it doesn't. some sick sounds though, ill prolly get this on vinyl and throw it with my DJ tools. i see some sick potential transitions and dubs coming from these sounds.
This is Amon's best album since Bricolage. I have enjoyed most of his records but never felt the same adrenaline rush or discovered the same classic depth as Bricolage. ISAM brings him full circle, moving beyond his signature style and into new realms.
By the way, you NEED to hear this album on a high quality system. And you absolutely NEED a sub woofer too! Otherwise you're just missing out.
was planning on seeing him do an audio visual night in london.. but after listening to this album... think ill give it a miss... Not sure wtf happened to his music... but im just not digging it.
really disappointing album - self indulgent, and apart from a couple of tunes grooveless - check for his monthly joints series or go back to his earlier albums for some decent beats
@shrkb1te I suppose you just wanted more of the same. This album is whimsical and different from his other works. I like the organic approach and sampling he did. Just an opinion. What's great about Amon Tobin, is that each album can be differentiated from the others. Foley Room had a sort of dark organic vibe to it, Monthly Joints was more towards electronic and was darker, bricolage was jazz, a lot of jazz. He keeps on evolving and changing.
@Vaskadar not at all, i like you, have enjoyed his changes over the years, but for me this album is just dull and no step foward at all. just about everything you hear on this album (apart from the twisted vocal samples) can be heard on his other albums in one form or another - check out 'kitty cat' it could quite easily be a remix of 'bloodstone' and for me 'bloodstone' is better . why release an album that has similar tracks on it to your other albums but are 'nt as good ? - pointless.

this is gonna sound like a stupid question, but how do you pronounce ISAM? is it:
I, S, A, M? (like an abbreviation)
eye-sam?
izam? (rhymes with schism)
HOW DO YOU SAY IT???
