what kind of antenna are you using? i use to use a Solarcon Imax 2000 until i found out that a 102" whip has about the same amount of gain.

know way a 102in has same amount of gain , u know nothing about antennas. a 102in whip is a quarter wave antenna, a imax 2000 is a 5/8 wave antenna, a 5/8 wave antenna has much more gain. look it up dont take my word for it.

I have always used a hand held D 104 on my 2995 and it works great with these radios. A table top D104 works but it picks up the fan noise really bad.

known friends of mine and very well experienced technicians have trouble with these radios and other 10 meter base radios with built in power supplies. Owned a galaxy saturn brand new, few days after owning it, the power supply blew up. set the radio up for external power supply use, never had another problem with radio, i know people who have had similar problems with this 2995 and similar radios and hooked up external power supply, then worked great.

That was only with the older 2995's. The new ones have been redesigned with an upgraded power supply and board. I have 2 of these and never had a problem with it.

I have an antron off the peak of the house, but I have a set of Joe Gunn 4 element 4x4 star beams that I haven't put up yet. I'm almost 2,000 feet on top of the hill. My tower is going up as soon as I can bust thru the frost this spring. I run longwires too. Its an all band wire system so I can talk all over.
