Azon magyar együttesek közé tartozik akik a 70-es évek közepén feldolgozásokat játszottak de perifériára szorulva alig maradt hangzó anyag . Úgy hogy köszi azon zeneszerető emberkéknek akik ezeket feltöltötték ide. :)
Yes you Hungarians can be proud of this. It was 1976. This shows talent and willingness to western culture at that time and with progressive rock. At least that is how I think this. I don't know but somehow most of the rock music from behind the iron curtain sounds like they really did not want to sound soviet. This liveliness maybe was too much for communism. Music can make people move!
R'n'R as a product of English-American culture was a forbidden fruit behind the iron curtain. It's the liveliness of denial you feel. Rock LP's were treasures here even many years after their release. If we belonged to the western block we could take part in development, but being detached we could only follow the trends with delay. R'n'R was also feared as mediator of deep thoughts and appraised problems, which are dangerous for a dictatorship. Disco as counter-culture was highly supported.
Well, we not only followed the trends, Syryus for example had all the abilities to be a leader in European progressive rock. Jackie sang in English, they reached Australia by their own effort without any official support. They were absolutely unique in line-up and music but (along with many other bands) drowned after many years of oppression by the dictatorship's musical 'leaders'. They will burn in hell! They are the killers of Bela Radics, one of the greatest guitarists in the world!
Not bad! Quite surprising how they performed "Anitra's Dance", I never would have imagined that particular piece could be realized as a "fusion-rock" number! But then again all of the classical greats were considered radical in their time..., especially Beethoven & Mussorgsky.
But I'll bet a week's pay if ol' Edvard himself were alive..., he'd be jammin' too!
Maybe when they recorded this, they probably did not record it as a band together in one go?, maybe the drums would have sounded better if they had played as a band I wonder.
Man....why are all commments so negative? I never heard of this band, but these guys deserve more praise.. never thought such talent flourished behind the Iron Curtain! And let us remember: when the Nice did the same thing with "America", could somebody have foreseen they would also contribute to the pro revolution???
How is the song a disgrace, bands like ELP, Ekseption, The Nice etc etc always did Rock / Prog adaptions of Classical Music, there no offensive stuff like NO nudism, swearing or violence.
I HATE synthesisers. Grieg is a great composer, but I wouldn't call this rock music unless they would switch out that annoying synthesiser with an overdrive-effect guitar.
Why is it so difficult to understand this music which was made in the same manner as ELP´s Blue rondo a la Turk ? Pantha Rhei was a very good band with his own distinctive music. I liked them.

Great track! Indeed there are a lot of such gems in the former East-Bloc once hidden behind the iron curtain.
A vivid example for that is Russian prog rock band of the late 70s called HORIZONT (which is IMO one of the best prog rock bands ever).
Try for instance " Snowballs by Horizont " and you'll get a smashing example of original Soviet symphonic prog.

Why did you removed KenThule's comment? It contained nothing wrong! By mistake?

He must have removed his own comments, I know I haven't taken any comments off.
Hope that helps, cheers kraftneu!

but mostly Scandanaivian and Deutcher pieces can sound like the 70's type "fusion rock" not Russian/Greek music

NASENT 3 years ago
No, it's from a very obscure Prog rock band from Hungary called 'Panta Rhei'.
They were influenced by ELP though.

@kraftneu panta rhei sounds more like a very dangerous cult then a rockband, but ok...

Well, i thought it was kinda cool...
But the drum rythms sounds weird and messy, and even off beat sometimes.

great music, imo. I was expecting the East German 70s band Panta Rhei but this is some great prog, despite socialism and all.
