@BlackHoleHeroin Yeah scary sometimes isn't it? All you can really see when you listen to this music is dead places, a dead future, or nothing at all. That's what scares people when they listen to this that they can't sometimes put a finger on, thoughts of no light in the future or nothing for the rest of eternity. But I listen because it is good to be more in touch with what the industrial world around you is without people, cold and dead. It reveals a lot of hard truth about life here.
@squezey1 great description man, totally agree with you there! It is good in my opinion to come away from this box we are all living in and see it for what it really is...
@simionTheOne Songs specifically? I don't know but as for artists try out Atrium Carceri, Thomas Koner, raison d'être, or Lustmord. Dark Ambient is the music of nothingness or places that once were lively that are now abandoned and souless on their own like a dead area of a city, good to listen to in the middle of the night or outside at night. Or even during the depressing silence of Winter waiting for Spring.
@LOrguedeJulianne Big thanks, I appreciate! Timelessness is the key word on such a lot of my ambient works and I think it is the one factor that's the most important when it comes to this kind of ambient music.
Dammit, that repeating two-note riff in the beginning keeps making me think it's going to launch into an eerie remix of Cruel Angel's Thesis, even though I know it's not gonna happen. Nice creepy track.
@tikzero Thanks for the comment mate! I should propably try to send some demos to labels but I haven't done anything yet. Well, I actually already made a small ambient demo that I might possibly send to various labels. ^^
Hey, thanks for the comment and sorry for the late answer. For this track I used alot of bell samples which I happened to have back then for some reason. I did this with FL Studio and lots of VST's - or at least lots of reverb ;) I think I used Crystal (soft synth) to create those pads to this track.
The most important thing is the right mindset - relaxed but alert. Inspiration, testing sounds and making whatever comes in mind. And the right kind of FX; reverberation, delaying, gentle compressing and volume control.
This track was made with FL Studio but I had a strategy created specifically for this track. I had many good quality bell sounds on my samplestock so I decided to put them to a FX-channel with extreme reverbs. I modificated the volumes of the different bell sounds note by note. There are some synthetic sounds made with Crystal-softsynthetisator (freeware).
Skelic, I recommend to use Reason, much better then FL Studio's step sequencer. The only thing you need, is an MIDI-keyboard and you have the choice of beautiful, high quality patches! :D
PS: Is there an of your project? Will be good to add you :D
Wolves in the Throne Room at least makes some kind of "forest"-metal. I don't know how to describe it, but all I've heard from this band was nice sludgy blacky metal. One really good, although industrial themed band, is Raison d'Être which has really dark atmospheres all around the tracks.
Epic.

@squezey1 yea this gives me a certain feeling like some goth from the 80's
not the gothics from today but the experimental post-punk kinda Goth from the 80's
really puts me in a place where not many people get into, this brooding atmosphere... i like it!

this drives me high
above the sky
and those heads of yours

the spectrum of heaven
laden with feathery tears
those of my only two eyes
and that soul in-between

Dark ambient is just a sub-genre of avant-garde. It's definitely not something you'd listen to driving alone late at night.
