I just finished season 3 (first time) and will start with season 4 next week (so long). Yet I feel glee at the knowledge that I still have one full season, two movies and the whole of Caprica left (though there's no Kara - Kara is the best thing about the show filled with wonderful things.)

"Resurrection ship" brought me right back! I think season 4 is possibly the greatest written series I've ever had the privilege to watch and i can't watch the last episode because after that its over...I know i should but I can't!

i'm confused i just started season 4 only watched the first episode so far in the beginning when they show the first 7 cylon who is the 7th? i don't reconize him and they've not shown him in the show to my understanding unless i've missed something....
There are 8 cylon models plus the final 5, to make 13. You see models 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and the five. The fate of the 7th model is revealed in season 4.

The 13th Colony had lived on the "first/real" Earth and had a Cylon war of their own and all organic and synthetic life died by God's will (before the 12 Colonies's war.) Uninhabitable, the fleet took off in search of another homeworld. ok, i'm a "Stargate" kind of guy. i've been under the impression that BsG is a bit overrated, doesn't really bring anything special to the table, and that the show is totally based on sappy drama-bs, and thus very annoying. this was my conclusion after watching 15 minutes of it one day..

The show's "sappy drama" as you call it is actually how real people of varied beliefs and personalities might ostensibly act under the depressing situations in which they're placed. It might take getting used to, but Battlestar is the perfect example of how characters on TV should be written and developed.
If you look up the original series on Wiki, you'd see that it had the highest premier ratings of any show & eventhough ratings declined as time went by.
You'll also read on the Nielson Rating page confirms that even when canceled, it was STILL winning its time-slot to the end.
The Lucas & Universal counter-suits were dropped. Many criticised the cancelation of a series STILL winning its time-slot.
This new series has never matched those ratings even on a cable channel dedicated to Sci-fi.
After calling Cornergasser a liar when it is obvious he was telling the truth. He linked us to EntertainmentNow announcements on why end will be 2 shortened seasons. Why the show was not renewed which is same as cancelled.
He even predicted 2 maybe 3 made-for-tv movies & that the spin-off series wouldn't use same story nor actors.

They it hasn't been cancelled only that its coming to its natural "conclusion". I'm really annoyed because its my favourite show and i really don't want to have to watch lost after its gone. By the way when WILL lost come to its natural "conclusion" the whole show is like the last 10mins of a Coen brothers movie.
They said it will start again next year, anywhere from Jan to April. Before that.. the Caprica movie is airing, I think September. There will be several webisodes, and at least one BSG movie, similar to Razor last year...all happening this year. I hate the fact that we have to wait, but Sci-Fi is waiving budget politics in their face. Waiting will put the show on next years budget, so it'll be more profitable for the network, and mean more money for post production. It'll be a hell of an ending.
I really hope it is, i felt the first part of season 4 was a bit rushed. I'm hoping they find the 'earth' humans and that they have star-trek like technology so that they can destroy the cylons!! no peace with the cylons!
This season absolutely sucks!! The story is going nowhere, the multi-melodramas fly off on their own stupid tangents, and with each episode it becomes more and more confusing. The formula they are using to drag it out over a long number of episodes is getting tiresome. Its a shame that what started out as good science fiction is degenerating into crap!

As I said..it was advertised as that BEFORE it started. They never lead people on about that. Of course it's Sci-Fi to a point (Spaceships, dogfights, etc), but it's more drama in that it stays away from Sci-Fi cliches, which I think is refreshing. And cancellation was possible...not imminent. The fact is, more people are watching on DVD then off air, which dosen't help ratings. Right now, DVD sales and rentals are through the roof on this show. As far as respect..I give what I get.
Ron Moore stated publicly before even the mini-series aired, that this is not a Sci-Fi show. It is a drama set in a sci-fi enviromment. He also told fans not to expect the old show. Why then, 5 years later, when the show is in it's LAST season, do people still complain about differences between traditional sci-fi, and BSG..or the old and new...or Starbuck's gender and such. It's old. It was credible then, it's tired now. Get over it. Let the fans enjoy the ending of our show in peace.

I'm a teacher & consultant who used to encourage students to watch the sci-fi channel for science class. I've also done location scouting for these series as my relative is a Casting Director so we lose money with the cancellation.

It's a good thing this is the final season. The writers seem to be running out of ideas. But I still love this show. I think Roslin may end up becoming the new hybrid for that base ship. Poor Felix. I knew he was going to loose his leg. And just because a toaster didn't want to be found out.

since i skimmed through the first 3 years from downloads off the web, i'm forcing myself to finish the series. this show suks but still hilarious to see where these fag writers are taking it. check out episode 7 of season 4. they don't blowup a baseship when it appears within the fleet (GAY!). at one point the asian cylon on the basestar says, "they are going to shoot us down." DOWN TO WHERE? YOU'RE IN FUCKING SPACE ... you shitty writers. Episode gets even worse with the dialog and scenarios.

We're 3 roommates weren't even born when parents fans of original series. One of us works in programming for Cable Provider. When we Polled why collapsing ratings(and lost original fans, men 1st), you're almost totally right. Complaints were BSG2005 wasn't 'science-fiction' anymore but 'gender-fiction' or 'religion-fiction' as you said.
Odd thing is I looked up why original series was cancelled, it actually had great ratings but Star Wars people sued it out. This series ratings just kept dying.
Actually the original BSG got cancelled because it cost over $1 million an episode to put together. The ratings gradually dipped during that year to where it was barely in the top 20 (monumental achievement for sci-fi though). Mork & Mindy took BSG's time slot..LOL
There was also a lawsuit involving a kid that choked on a BSG toy viper. The Lucas lawsuit got thrown out, so that didn't affect the outcome. The original was kind of dorky but as a kid I thought it was cool. BSG 80 was crap.

I watched episode 3 last night and I thought there was far too much existential navel gazing and far to few dead toasters! The writers need to be very, very careful about where they're taking this show.

just downloaded and watched the first three seasons and ... um this show is crap! if i wanted to watch something about abortion, election theft, insurgiency, suicide bombers and anything about jerry springers daily show then i would watch fox and jerry fucking springer. how the fuck did this show go 3 much less an unwanted 4 seasons? god help us all including my agnostic ass!

BSG is pseudo-intellectual garbage. If you think it's thought provoking then it's because you're a member of the idiot majority. It's full of political messages that are about as subtle as a bag of hammers, other than that all it's got are plot twists and special effects.

I'm not attacking the shows as such, more the idea that it's the best thing since sliced bread. The writers kept on trying to write something profound after that and kept failing miserably, it's a pity really. And as for intellectual snobbery, yeah right, my favourite SciFi is Stargate! Thoroughly entertaining like BSG was, before it became so pretentious.

I just finished season 3 (first time) and will start with season 4 next week (so long). Yet I feel glee at the knowledge that I still have one full season, two movies and the whole of Caprica left (though there's no Kara - Kara is the best thing about the show filled with wonderful things.)

"Resurrection ship" brought me right back! I think season 4 is possibly the greatest written series I've ever had the privilege to watch and i can't watch the last episode because after that its over...I know i should but I can't!

There are 8 cylon models plus the final 5, to make 13. You see models 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and the five. The fate of the 7th model is revealed in season 4.

Anyone else get the feeling that this show is just making it all up as they go along like some afternoon soap-opera?
I mean comon, the so-called 'spin-off' sounds more like an outright soap-opera or even 'alternate universe terminator clone' than a sci-fi series.
Now they say even the die-hard fans and experts will be wrong on the ending.

The 13th Colony had lived on the "first/real" Earth and had a Cylon war of their own and all organic and synthetic life died by God's will (before the 12 Colonies's war.) Uninhabitable, the fleet took off in search of another homeworld. Then they found real Earth (our Earth) but they arrived 150,000 years ago (from our present timeline) in Africa and saw a bunch of Home Erectus or whatever. So basicly, the cycle of life was Kobol > first/real Earth > 12 Colonies > our/second/fake Earth.

i only became a fan this year, after watching the trailers for the final season.
the reason why i like it is because it's nothing like any sci-fi series ive ever watched. the story lines are never contrived. they're very genuine.
my only question is: why the frak is it ending? did the network stupidly cancelled it? or was it always a plan by the creators to end it in season 4?
anyhow, the series is amazing, and i wish all the people who work on it all the best.

ok, i'm a "Stargate" kind of guy. i've been under the impression that BsG is a bit overrated, doesn't really bring anything special to the table, and that the show is totally based on sappy drama-bs, and thus very annoying. this was my conclusion after watching 15 minutes of it one day..

The show's "sappy drama" as you call it is actually how real people of varied beliefs and personalities might ostensibly act under the depressing situations in which they're placed. It might take getting used to, but Battlestar is the perfect example of how characters on TV should be written and developed.

If you look up the original series on Wiki, you'd see that it had the highest premier ratings of any show & eventhough ratings declined as time went by.
You'll also read on the Nielson Rating page confirms that even when canceled, it was STILL winning its time-slot to the end.
The Lucas & Universal counter-suits were dropped. Many criticised the cancelation of a series STILL winning its time-slot.
This new series has never matched those ratings even on a cable channel dedicated to Sci-fi.

After calling Cornergasser a liar when it is obvious he was telling the truth. He linked us to EntertainmentNow announcements on why end will be 2 shortened seasons. Why the show was not renewed which is same as cancelled.
He even predicted 2 maybe 3 made-for-tv movies & that the spin-off series wouldn't use same story nor actors.

Personally I'm more interested in what my students watch.
I post this junk in empathy for relatives/friends in the industry who believe what I suspect are paranoid 'critics' up here claiming the reason the US creators keep producing these 'high-risk/critics-choice/ratings-flops' series/movies NOT in the US but in Canada is so it won't come back to bite them back in LA.
Personally I blame the high Cdn $ more, I post the paranoia only as I empathize. Many failed stints must look bad on resume.

They said it will start again next year, anywhere from Jan to April. Before that.. the Caprica movie is airing, I think September. There will be several webisodes, and at least one BSG movie, similar to Razor last year...all happening this year. I hate the fact that we have to wait, but Sci-Fi is waiving budget politics in their face. Waiting will put the show on next years budget, so it'll be more profitable for the network, and mean more money for post production. It'll be a hell of an ending.

This season absolutely sucks!! The story is going nowhere, the multi-melodramas fly off on their own stupid tangents, and with each episode it becomes more and more confusing. The formula they are using to drag it out over a long number of episodes is getting tiresome. Its a shame that what started out as good science fiction is degenerating into crap!
All will be revealed. Yeah right- I don't feel like watching a 100 episodes to see some type of resolution!

I subscribe to my sci-fi channel & never saw any mention your show was not 'sci-fi'.
I have seen our Cable provider news report its imminent cancelation since 2006.
What I do notice is fans of the new series expect respect from fans of the original series they did not show fans/authors of the original series.
Smacks of hypocrisy to me.

As I said..it was advertised as that BEFORE it started. They never lead people on about that. Of course it's Sci-Fi to a point (Spaceships, dogfights, etc), but it's more drama in that it stays away from Sci-Fi cliches, which I think is refreshing. And cancellation was possible...not imminent. The fact is, more people are watching on DVD then off air, which dosen't help ratings. Right now, DVD sales and rentals are through the roof on this show. As far as respect..I give what I get.

Ron Moore stated publicly before even the mini-series aired, that this is not a Sci-Fi show. It is a drama set in a sci-fi enviromment. He also told fans not to expect the old show. Why then, 5 years later, when the show is in it's LAST season, do people still complain about differences between traditional sci-fi, and BSG..or the old and new...or Starbuck's gender and such. It's old. It was credible then, it's tired now. Get over it. Let the fans enjoy the ending of our show in peace.

I'm a teacher & consultant who used to encourage students to watch the sci-fi channel for science class. I've also done location scouting for these series as my relative is a Casting Director so we lose money with the cancellation.
The reason given by boys & girls, men & women are similar.

You don't know what ur talking about. We worked for them, we know the writers had no fixed storyline, they were hoping for another SG 10+seasons. Fact is it was cancelled, delude urself all u want. The lucky of us have found work elsewhere, even me fortunately. Sadly the experience has hurt my relatives reputation but it wasn't her fault. Get over it. Even Cable news pointed out it didn't have the ratings the 1st series did. They're even considering a CGI of the 1st series. Sadly not my area.

He personally participated in negotiations with Ron Moore. Moore and David asked for a commitment through a 5th season. Sci-fi could not do that due to an issue of unstable ratings VS cost. ....They told him the ratings were climbing, so a 5th season might happen, but no promises. Only a promise of Four. Since the show was a continuing arch, David and Ron did not want to risk the show ending on a " to be continued" which might not happen, and decided to wrap up with four seasons, not five. So..could the show have been cancelled eventually? Quite possible..but doubtful. But the fact is, it never was..and that's the truth. Their ending it on their terms, not Sci-Fi's. Deal, or not.

To see who's lying, I went to the SciFi Channel Website itself. Quote: "Tony Optican, Scifi Vice President of Development and Current Programming, repeated that studio execs suggested that recent Nielsen ratings, or the show's "reach," failed to capture a key demographic the network has been steadily pursuing plus low ratings and sales."
I checked amazon & ebay too. Saph is one who thinks diving dvd sales & high turn-over rate is "through the roof sales".

All he said came true, Scifi VP of Development & Current Programming himself cancelation quote, Park(Boomer) did find new series down here we now see is 'The Cleaner', Juliani(Gaeta) at Stratford, Ont as we saw on our Shakespeare tour this spring & Hogan(Tigh) we saw doing a different series in Toronto, ALL before any of this was announced. He also mailed me autographed posters of my grandkids favorite BSG2005 stars within weeks NO CHARGE TY.

I have been talking to my friend at sci-fi, who backs up what I'm saying, and confirms that..FACT: there was NEVER, I repeat NEVER a cancellation decision. 5. Fact: Not only is BSG returning next year, but the Caprica spinnoff movie is coming, and Sci-fi has invested in at least one BSG movie, possibly two more, and several webisodes. This is ongoing. They don't do this for cancelled shows (KNOCK, KNOCK!) Get the message?!! BYE!

This is exactly why we stop at saying casting & location-scout work. What possible reason would we have to lie? Will it be easier to profit from a 'maybe?' new project? Obviously not. We explain why the BSG2005 failed, tough. I also explained why the original series was cancelled despite high ratings. But you have blinders on. since i skimmed through the first 3 years from downloads off the web, i'm forcing myself to finish the series. this show suks but still hilarious to see where these fag writers are taking it. check out episode 7 of season 4. they don't blowup a baseship when it appears within the fleet (GAY!). at one point the asian cylon on the basestar says, "they are going to shoot us down." DOWN TO WHERE? YOU'RE IN FUCKING SPACE ... you shitty writers. Episode gets even worse with the dialog and scenarios.

I stopped watching this new series for 2 reasons:
1) There were no blaster space & gunfight battles.
2) We had to reject male pride, self worth & belief in human evolution.
While the feminist writers deny that science equates male humans with masculine traits, they hypocritically make women masters of all masculine traits as well as feminine, leaving men useless.
To be a fan of this series a man has to abandon any sense of male pride/self worth & belief in evolution science. I'm a proud man.

We're 3 roommates weren't even born when parents fans of original series. One of us works in programming for Cable Provider. When we Polled why collapsing ratings(and lost original fans, men 1st), you're almost totally right. Complaints were BSG2005 wasn't 'science-fiction' anymore but 'gender-fiction' or 'religion-fiction' as you said.
Odd thing is I looked up why original series was cancelled, it actually had great ratings but Star Wars people sued it out. This series ratings just kept dying.

Actually the original BSG got cancelled because it cost over $1 million an episode to put together. The ratings gradually dipped during that year to where it was barely in the top 20 (monumental achievement for sci-fi though). Mork & Mindy took BSG's time slot..LOL
There was also a lawsuit involving a kid that choked on a BSG toy viper. The Lucas lawsuit got thrown out, so that didn't affect the outcome. The original was kind of dorky but as a kid I thought it was cool. BSG 80 was crap.

The previous seasons were on dvd by start of next season. They are NOT renting let alone selling well in our video/gaming store so you should be able to get them cheap soon.
Since its been cancelled, maybe wait another year if you want a version with more of the interviews etc if you like.
Fact is, its not renting, not selling, so patience & you'll get them all cheaper.

I'm not attacking the shows as such, more the idea that it's the best thing since sliced bread. Season one was groundbreaking, and thoroughly deserving of praise, it's a shame that it took such a nose dive in quality in season two. The writers kept on trying to write something profound after that and kept failing miserably, it's a pity really. And as for intellectual snobbery, yeah right, my favourite SciFi is Stargate! Thoroughly entertaining like BSG was, before it became so pretentious.
