France, England, Holland, Sweeden, Italy, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Canada, etc...They all have Universal Health Care, Public-Private partnership in some cases. Nothing perfect but especially the French system is very close to it as I had first hand experience with it. We are far behind the civilized world in terms of quality, accessibility and the cost of health care although we have pockets of good medecine but is not doing much good for the majority of Americans even with so called "insurance".
Medicare has been around for decades, and it's a vastly popular system with those that receive it.
All we'd really be doing is basically lowering the age at which those can qualify for a 'medicare-type' health plan.

The government is seeking to take responsibility in an area where the corporations have power but have eschewed responsibility. If anyone is going to have power over health care, it should be someone who also takes responsibility, as in Medicaid, where people are served, have choice, and the focus is on getting needed help, not rationing it for the benefit of stockholders.

Hello, have you looked into the SPUSA? The party of Bernie Sanders; if it were not for the electoral stigma of the word 'socialist'. However, things have changed; and we sincerely thank the republicans for working so hard to do that for us. Seriously though, check it out, read the section about the party's platform on various issues. The SP fights for all the things that the Democrats cave in on, check Sander's views and votes for example, and he's consistent about it.

We know what they are doing, but in the end does that really affect the actual vote on health care reform? I think all this hype for reform could be just an illusion, created so they could crush it in the voting and hopefully have nothing more to do with it for as long as possible.. i could just be a bit paranoid, but who would blame me? government doesn't give me reason to trust any more, they blew it when they started wars based on lies.
How can you argue on the side of making congress vote for bills they have only gotten a few hours to read and they're hundreds of pages long. Anything could be in there. I think the public should be able to read them too before they are voted on.
Instead of bitching and moaning, and going on shows to decry it they need to read it with their staff and take their job seriously and stop playing games. If they read it they could take specific sections and say "Look this doesn't work for me because ..." or "I have a problem with this section because ..." No they're just showboating and bullshitting and we have to call it what it is.
Isn't our healthcare supposed to be reformed the same one Canadas is though? I mean, they don't get it for everyone. Everyone is allowed, but that's WHY many people can't get it. So many need it that they don't have enough. It's like lowering the cost on a rare car. More people can now afford it, but then not everyone can get it, because there is a limited ammount. I was just wondering, how would we deal with that?

Actually we do not have a health care but a semblance of a "sick care". The problem is if you get sick you may loose your coverage because you become too expensive for, for profit insurance companies monopolizing the market and sucking the blood out of unsespecting and dumded down americans. We can not call ourselves evolved, civilized and good people/nation unless we have a system of health care, smart, affordable, accessible by all americans as a right. France, England, Holland, Sweeden, Italy, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Canada, etc...They all have Universal Health Care, Public-Private partnership in some cases. Nothing perfect but especially the French system is very close to it as I had first hand experience with it. We are far behind the civilized world in terms of quality, accessibility and the cost of health care although we have pockets of good medecine but is not doing much good for the majority of Americans even with so called "insurance".

I just think that clearly American health care needs to be universal. Just look at the leaderboard for health care read the top 10 and see what type of health care they have. Universal or Private? the top ten all have universal. And America is right down at 37 just behind costa rica and one place ahead of slovenia. America's health care needs to change. Pssst.....the US pays 2 to 3 times what other industrialized nations pay for their health care. Both per GDP in general and per family. Also 1/6-1/5 of US citizens have no healthcare and another 40% have inadequate coverage. We're in 37th place in the world in healthcare quality and accessibility.
Hint: All those other industrialized nations have nationalized healthcare.
So it would be a great money saver to have a public option.

It's funny how conservatives always harp on about rights but rarely mention responsibility. Like for instance Beck's diatribe against the proposed (marginal) tax increase for millionaires.
What's more Obama is going out of his way to discuss everything with republicans. How often did Bush even attempt to cross the aisle? Exactly never. By the time he presented legislation usually it was already bludgeoned through by Cheney.
Conservatives really don't have a leg to stand on here.

President Truman proposed similiar health care legislation over 50 YEARS AGO -- and the INSURANCE INDUSTRY has been saying it's too hasty all these years since.
The remarks from Dan Bowen aren't surprising - he refused to endorse Barack in the Presidential election - I presume he voted for McCain/Palin.
I don't mind different views in the Democratic Party, but understand Bowen is way out there on many issues - even way beyond many Republicans.

Actually, he said in the article where he didn't endorse Obama that he would still vote for him as a delegate at the DNC, and would vote for him on Election Day.
I understand if he felt uncomfortable endorsing him publicly--he's the lone Democrat representing Oklahoma in Congress (which, interestingly enough, borders the only district in Arkansas represented by a Republican-John Boozman). But just because you don't endorse him publicly, doesn't mean you should UNENDORSE him publicly.

Corporations also never want to give up power, and insurance companies are corporations. The government is seeking to take responsibility in an area where the corporations have power but have eschewed responsibility. If anyone is going to have power over health care, it should be someone who also takes responsibility, as in Medicaid, where people are served, have choice, and the focus is on getting needed help, not rationing it for the benefit of stockholders.

The masses are made up of individuals.
Competition thru low costs has not helped the consumer. They are not competing with reasonable prices that people can afford. They are not competing with better and more comprehensive services. They compete 4stockholders. The consumer is a hostage to a system that downgrades its services such that the patient is just a number to be processed as cheaply as possible. They need REAL competition. If they can't handle govt competition, let the market rule

That was two weeks ago on Bill Moyer on PBS. He had masterminded some of the industry methods to kill health reform with scare tactics. They are the speaking points of the insurance industry.. Watch the interview!! I want to see Wendall Potter on every news program unraveling the scare tactics.

I agree absolutely, but what is even more simple is posturing, posing, and pretending to be the party of the people, and letting just enough of your leaders hem and haw to destroy the possibility. Then they can tell voters in 2010 and 2012 how they tried, they were the good guys, but it just wasn't enough. The Dems are still playing to the corporations but pretending they are not. Real Liberals need a better alternative because we all need health care.

Hello, have you looked into the SPUSA? The party of Bernie Sanders; if it were not for the electoral stigma of the word 'socialist'. However, things have changed; and we sincerely thank the republicans for working so hard to do that for us. Seriously though, check it out, read the section about the party's platform on various issues. The SP fights for all the things that the Democrats cave in on, check Sander's views and votes for example, and he's consistent about it.

Now that some of the stigma has been removed, it would be nice if he party could make advances under its own name. Not only is it an excellent balance to the elitist forces, but it would cause the republicans heads to pop! I am all for health care reform but Cenk thinks that anyone who isn't gun ho about getting it through by August is obviously just taking RNC talking points & that they have been bought by corporations (which may or may not be true) but could it be that they are concerned about doing EXACTLY like Bush... just cause the Bush pushed stuff through doesn't mean Obama should do the same... but doesn't mean that these guys should drag their feet w/o providing reasonable solutions

Covering the uninsured & pre existing condition coverage are'nt debateable issues those points are what health care reform is all about now its just figuring out how to properly save money & pay for the changes

Oh, and it should also be noted that Dan Boren stated publicly last year that would not endorse Barack Obama for president (and this was after the nomination was secured by him---food for thought). Conservative district? Definitely, but again, sometimes, taking a stand like that could go a long way (and his father, a former Senator/president of OU, DID endorse Obama).

As a Democrat, I don't want to dislike Dan Boren. His father, David Boren, was a well-respected Senator for years, and he is the lone Democrat representing Oklahoma in Congress, and Oklahoma is the only state where every county was carried by John McCain last year (the same thing happened for Bush in 2004). HOWEVER, there comes a time when you've got to stand up and FIGHT for what's right. And if there's any Blue Dog that needs to pressured, it's Dan Boren.

You get the local yokels to vote based on how much the candidate is perceived to be like them. They vote based on their selfish interests in the short run rather than what is right, and that is how those elected officials govern. The higher the level of the official, the larger the group of yokels are. People are notoriously stupid in large groups. Look at what's going on in Massachusetts if you want to know where the health care "solution" is going to end up.
Short story, you'll be required to have insurance - and if you don't - then you'll lose the money from your tax returns. This is supposed to cover the costs of the walk-ins that don't pay.
In reality, HMOs will still screw you when the big bills come.

We know what they are doing, but in the end does that really affect the actual vote on health care reform? I think all this hype for reform could be just an illusion, created so they could crush it in the voting and hopefully have nothing more to do with it for as long as possible.. i could just be a bit paranoid, but who would blame me? government doesn't give me reason to trust any more, they blew it when they started wars based on lies.

How can you argue on the side of making congress vote for bills they have only gotten a few hours to read and they're hundreds of pages long. Anything could be in there. I think the public should be able to read them too before they are voted on.

If they read it they could take specific sections and say "Look this doesn't work for me because ..." or "I have a problem with this section because ..."
