@BrownBearCity it's funny this comment keeps staying marked "Unread" in my message list! I think it's a sign that I am going in the right direction!!! I really appreciate it again :) :) lol!
Watch videos of real robots (from the 80's). They jerk to a start from a standstill, move fast from one position to another, and jerk to a halt, wavering a bit. They move one section at a time, stacking complex moves as a string of simple ones. The whole point of the robot dance is to look unnatural, you have too much hippie/trance in your moves. Tap your inner nerd.
@Unknownwoot If you type like that and call me a dumbass, then I'm just like.... gonna reiterate how amazingly stupendously awesome I am, how much better I am than you could ever possibly be at anything and everything, and then leave you alone...
@Unknownwoot homey ill fuck them up and ill fuck you up and all yall cant see me what!?!?!? that's what im saying boy.. what!?!??! what it do homeboy... homeskillet.. homefry... that's how it is and that's what it be cuz that's how we do
Thanks for all the videos. If I had to change one thing, I'd clean up the isolations, especially the arms. It kind of ruins the illusions if they move like they would naturally.
Wow. I'm surprised by all of the negative comments man. I think it looked good. I mean, considering you were standing in the dirt, probably at a festival of some sort, wearing shorts and is this your type of music? etc etc etc. it wasn't a professional quality video so... It's hard to see and judge with all those variables. I've seen some of your other vids and they looked really nice. Don't listen to the haters. You got a good dance!
Dude Otis you are off the chain. You are definitely one of my favorite dancers to watch. You hope to be as good as future and rashaad, but I hope to be as good as you my friend. You are f**king dope, keep up the good work.
@jewelcitydevil I agree completely... i learned everything i know from otis...lol... seriously...his vids have taught me everything i practice now... thanx dude u friggin amazing
don't you have a lot of popping friends? I think youtube isn't that great in terms of getting help, you should just session with your friends and it seems like your friends are pretty "up" there in terms of popping skills.
feel weird offering advice since i watched your videos for advice myself. to me, looks like your arms are too loose and relaxed, get a lil more 90-degree to clean it up a bit. but your musicality & rhythm is absolutely sick and i keep watching this vid over and over again bc of it.
watever u do, dont shave the beard! Its a proven method to enhance your dancing, lovemaking, and just being a cool dude in general..seriously i would never shave if i didnt have to get a real job when im done with college..
Seems like you dont feel it at all ... you just think over the moves you gonna do next altho you teached me i should feel it ...
Im not in position to give critism im just learning ( from you ) but honestly seems like you just think " what am i gonna do next " instead of just lettin you flow from the music
The problem that I see here is that the entire freestyle was kinda stuck in a few realms of popping. Which is cool because that's probably what your most comfortable with. I think freestyling to lyrics might help. Like listen to the song and incorporating popping but also play off of what the lyrics are saying. I think you might need to add a little like for a lack of a better word or description swag. I think looking at freestyling, grooves, & choreo might help. I hope this was helpful.
Hm... Otis... Just keep dancing and trying different things. You do need to start grooving more. I'm right there with you man. Trying to improve any chance I can get. At least you got guts to put your video up for people to critique so props there.
it's a joke man. did you watch the end of the video? I feel pretty discouraged right now. i guess jokes don't always come off on video... but I aint gonna stop makin em
You need to work on your hits. Some of the isos here are actually pretty sloppy too. I also think you could do with trying other styles of popping. Not just boog.
Also try to work on continuity. Follow through with different concepts as you're dancing, and blending styles. Right now everything seems kinda chunky and broken up
Well what I see a lot of here is a lack of commitment to moves. The best way to think of it is as a progression. You can do it more with and without music. Just experiment with concepts, how you put things go together. Maybe start slower, then incorporate it to the music. You have sick rhythm, so that part won't be hard.
I use tuts in my dance. People seem to think of them as flashy, but everything is even doper when you can make things make *sense* with the rest of your poppin.
Sorry if that's vague. It's just that it's different for everyone. Experimentation and watching others for concepts (not biting of course, just some principles behind movements) I find really helpful.
I think for you to get better you have to stop stressing poppin so much and just dance in general. Not isolations and stuff just dance. Try house, hip-hop, even jerking. Don't be so popping minded all the time. Don't wake up everyday like you gotta pop and don't specifically think that every time you dance that your getting better at poppin. Hear music and just try new things and I think you will grow. Don't enjoy it so much that you can't enjoy it.
@emanthechamp co-fucking-sign. He should try to experiment more. Trying other genres, like you said, could inspire him to fuse elements together to develop his own unique style.
@poppingtv yeah but I think this is probably the best advice you'll receive. It's not the moves you just need to let yourself become a dancer. you can be a popper without being dancer. Those guys you mentioned do many more styles than poppin. Even buddha stretch knows how to jerk.
idk just me but i cnt really see the htis it sorta looks like dimestopping but i kno you are hittting cuz of your chest but other than that sort of your hits
future and rashaad are my homeys, you know houdoken and relic? leme know if your ever up on the east coast

Your wearing shorts, so I guess you should have done more of robotics, waving, tutting instead of boogaloo, which doesn't really look good in shorts.

Watch some of these videos from a guy named Pacman on youtube, he made some tutorials and his poppin is intense
FatBoiSonny 1 year ago
There's alot of people that are dying to be able to do exactly what you can do at that level, top notch man.
If you can make a video freestyle of waving that'll be cool.
(not the tutorial)
