It might have said "Deuren Slaten" (Dutch for Doors Closing). The reason why it might be Dutch is that Pennsylvania used to be part of this region of the United States called "New Netherlands".
I am in town for the holiday weekend and was riding on leading car 514 today from Walnut-Locust to Olney T.C. at around 5:30pm and I heard the BSL's new automated announcement system. The new system includes the same beeps, but now with "Doors are closing." All station stops are updated and sound a bit like the MFL announcements, but are more robotic.
I am guessing that the new voice will take effect over time since I rode earlier today and heard the same 'ole "Daws Closing" voice.
Im not fond of the DC Metros announcement systems since it only has a doors opening and closing announcement. My most favorite is the Market Frankford El. "Doors Are Closing". And the worse is the Baltimore Metros announcement system which the destination gets beeped out by the ding dong doors closing signal. And the Baltimore Metros speakers are only inside as the BSS and MFL have exterior speakers. So you can even hear the train announcements across the platform.
Ugh! I ride the BSS from time to time and I hate that voice (it too Indian sounding). I prefer the the old "ding-ding," or with the new NYC Subway cars, the "Stand clear of the closing doors please!" voice, or if need to be, the "Watch the Tram Car" voice at Wildwood.
Indian-sounding? I thought the new "Daws closing" voice sounded more like an Asian attempt at Ebonics! ;-)
For a much-better automated voice experience, I highly suggest the WMATA Metro trains in Washington, DC.
They have a beautiful subway system - they also have dim lights at the edge of each platform that start flashing brighter as a train approaches the station.
This video it does sound like it says Balls Closing. From a couple other videos and from riding the Broad St line it does sound like Das closing. Not all trains have that. I rode one on that line the doors closing had no voice and the driver announced the stops over the PA.
Apparently that was a ramdon incident. Luckily no one was killed. It happened at 12:15am. Which is a time many are not riding a Subway. Thats a time people are sleeping getting ready for the next morning. But the system is still relatively safe. I felt safe riding it each time I visit Philly.
For some reason this particular video it sounds as Balls Closing. Other videos on Youtube as well as my experiences riding its Daws closing. So basically it is Daws closing. Not Balls Closing.
Wow... the old septa sounds. love it!! Also no propulsion sound like nowadays.

Part of a great fail is the sound of it - and the doors thrusting themselves open again at :04 fits the bill. xD

Septa sucks, they are the worst when it comes to getting a job. I have put in for jobs with them for over 3 years and not one interview.
