But Denmark where I live has a ban on guns also - and we have on average about 50 murders a year out of a population of 5,2 million. That is around 0,001%
As far as I can tell from a google search 15.000 murders a year is a good estimate for the 300 million americans. That is 0,5% of the population.

Sure - the UK is a bit more lawless than Denmark. But there is still only 1/4 of the chance of being shot than in the US.
And of course the Hells Angels have weapons here as well. And of course there are shootings in Denmark as well. But what I'm concerned with is the fact that at the moment I'm 6 times as likely to be killed in traffic than to die from murder. So the danger at the moment is not so great that it worries me.

Last I checked, 1984 isn't a reality in Canada. Big Brother does not exist. The government is nowhere near oppressive. We have free speech, opinion, thought, expression, association, etc. Gun control means that the criminals lose their guns also. Therefore, there would be no reason to carry a gun for self defense. If you really want a weapon, there are non lethal weapons like tasers. Carrying around real guns with the intent of killing would make you a murderer. Isn't that a crime?

I don't believe that people with badges have the best judgement, but since they had to undergo tests and examinations to get that badge, they're the closest. While tasers can kill, the fatality rate is nowhere near that of actual guns. In fact, according to a study at Wake Forest University, 0.3% of people shocked with a taser were killed. Compare it to guns, and I think we have a winner.

Switzerland basically gives you a service rifle and teaches you how to use it, they have the lowest crime in europe. The czech republic has very loose gun laws, very little crime.

The other problem with gun control is usually the laws are completely arbitrary, having nothing to do with actual public safety, but rather perceived public safety. We are "supposedly" protected from arbitrary laws under our constitution.
Insisting that no one owns a gun because of accidental shootings is the same as insisting no one drives a car, or goes swimming, or rides a bike in case of accidental injury/death while pursuing those activities. THAT is living life in fear.

But Denmark where I live has a ban on guns also - and we have on average about 50 murders a year out of a population of 5,2 million. That is around 0,001%
As far as I can tell from a google search 15.000 murders a year is a good estimate for the 300 million americans. That is 0,5% of the population.
I know it's an oversimplification but perhaps our method is better.

Sure - the UK is a bit more lawless than Denmark. But there is still only 1/4 of the chance of being shot than in the US.
And of course the Hells Angels have weapons here as well. And of course there are shootings in Denmark as well. MANY more people die from traffic accidents because someone else didn't know how to properly operate a motor vehicle. You don't ban cars, you educate people on how to properly drive, and punish those who don't.

Look at what happened in Jamaica, where the government disarmed the populace. Guns became totally illegal, yet violence shot out of control, literally.
Guns aren't some magical piece of engineering that only rocket scientists are capable of producing, you know. Resistance movements in World War 2 were building them in garages, any machine shop can make them. Making them illegal doesn't make guns disappear.

Last I checked, 1984 isn't a reality in Canada. Big Brother does not exist. The government is nowhere near oppressive. We have free speech, opinion, thought, expression, association, etc. Gun control means that the criminals lose their guns also. Therefore, there would be no reason to carry a gun for self defense. If you really want a weapon, there are non lethal weapons like tasers. Carrying around real guns with the intent of killing would make you a murderer. Isn't that a crime?

@IlersichProductions Where does this protectionist mentality stop? Shouldn't knives be banned? Let's not forget automobiles, which kill far more in the US than do firearms. Guns are an equalizer for say, smaller people or the disabled for example. If you're dwarfed by an attacker you have a much better chance against them with a gun than say a baseball bat or some other blunt object. A society where only cops, soldiers, gov't agents, and crooks are armed is asking for tyranny.

Cars take you places, and knives cut your food. Guns exist solely to kill, and if you haven't realized, there are different types of guns. I wouldn't call it an equalizer if one person pulls out a pistol while the other pulls out a shotgun. And btw, NON-LETHAL WEAPONS, like tasers, can be used instead.

I don't believe that people with badges have the best judgement, but since they had to undergo tests and examinations to get that badge, they're the closest. While tasers can kill, the fatality rate is nowhere near that of actual guns. In fact, according to a study at Wake Forest University, 0.3% of people shocked with a taser were killed. Compare it to guns, and I think we have a winner.

Switzerland basically gives you a service rifle and teaches you how to use it, they have the lowest crime in europe. The czech republic has very loose gun laws, very little crime.
Now, let us move on to america:
California and New york: Very high crime and very strict gun laws.
Vermont and New Hampshire: Loose gun laws, crime is almost non-existent.

I was pointing out that this was an ideal way of thinking and that in the real world, this is not the case. I should have worded it better in that I was pointing out that there is a POSSIBLE decline in gun crime due to the ban of ownership, but that isn't the case in the real world. Each state with the strictest gun laws had the highest crime rates (new york, washington) those with the lowest had next to no violent crime (nevada, texas).
