@ROBSBIGSCITYSOUL Much appreciated thanks for you kind compliments. As for The SWEETS on Soultown, I know nothing about them. I dig their music, I can tell you that. The Valiant group recorded their stuff at Gold Star Studio. I have no idea if the two are related in any way. Sorry. Beautiful work you do for your videos by the way. Real first class. Regards, Anthony, Santa Ana, California
I'm unemployed in L.A. and has suffered the loss of my dog disappearing on me. I saw a pic of what I thought was her on the animal shelter page and went down to find out that it wasn't. I came home, feeling broken and lost on a cloudy L.A. day. I had some beers that were given to me, cracked a couple open and played this song, after that I searched for the video, hearing the West Coast sound and seeing pics of my home town helped me greatly on the road to recovery and back to happiness.
Just stumbled upon your vids - blimey they are well put together indeed. This tune has always given me 'chillbumps all over my skin' since I first heard it during the Stafford years but when put together with the images of those who are truly 'down and out' phew it really brings home those lyrics. Nice one Rob
Simply Brilliant, the interpretation of the lyrics to the video is spot on. This goes for your other uploads too.
I've been lucky enough to have followed the scene since 1977 & I think that the Stafford years were by far Northern Souls most innovative period, also considered by many to be the 'wilderness years' - but that was a good thing, all the best mid-tempo records came from that time.Top Stuff
my original post a few months ago was the first time i had heard this sound and everytime i play it again it seems to have got better and better, thanks for posting it as i would probably have never had the privelage of hearing this awesome toon
There's also an inferior version by Dick Hafner (Silver Streak), picture and Refosoul clip available on the Soul Source site, out of interest. Some of the production value is imitated, IMO ...the vocal is slightly dinner club.
Talk about a powerful voice and vocal imagery! No one seems to have the real talent to sing like this anymore! But, like the song says...you cannot give up! Give's me hope there is still a future for GREAT music out there somewhere!
One diamond from the northern soul music very nice lyrics and sound! Good upload thanks

Many thanks Anthony for the information, I will add this to the 'show me' section.
Love your wonderful variety of 60's Los Angeles based recordings and East Coast rarities - sounds, pics and incredible information.
BTW, can you tell us any more information about the Sweets on the LA Soultown record label?
