japanese commercials haven't changed a lot in 20 years. If I look at Aussie commercials from 20 years ago I can definitely see a lot more disparity in the 'cheese factor' than comparing these CMs to ones on TV now

Actually, from what I understand, the Japanese language is too polite to have any curse words, so "shimatta" is more like saying, "darn" or "blast", contrary to what most fansubbers think. Also, I think the joke behind that was that he was using his stripe, right? I think the Japanese word for stripe is "shima" (as in "shima'uma", which is what Japanese call zebras).
