  • @nycewheels I am considering a folding bike, but first I need to have a couple of concerns answered:

    1) is the vector x27h as stable and fast as the ordinary road bike at high speeds?

    2) how resilient are the tires? will I be worried if I accidentally hit a small pothole or should they be able to weather that abuse?

    Thanks!

    Benjamin

  • @koftu Good questions. The Vector X27h is stable at high speed, however because of the small wheels it is not AS stable as a 700c road bike (for example). In my experience loosening up my grip on the handlebars makes all the difference. The tires aren't super for commuting, they are designed to be light and fast rather than durable but as long as you keep them inflated to a high pressure you won't have to worry about pinch flats. Punctures a bit maybe but not potholes. -Peter

  • Hi Peter I´m searching for a good foling bike for me, but I have some problems because of my height I´m 6'4" tall and 238 pounds so I want to know if there is a bicycle suggestion for me?¿ because I want a bike that can handle with holes in the streets and that kind of things. Thanks a lot, I´ll wait your response.

  • @richvai Cool, I'd be glad to help you out. I think you'd be happiest with a folding bike that has sturdier rims and a bit of a heavier frame. A great choice would be the Dahon Mu P8 or Dahon Jetstream. These bikes are both built with sturdier rims and are great for commuting. At 6'4" you may not be able to get quite as much leg extension as would be ideal but Dahons are very adjustable and should fit. Search nycewheels(dot com) for more info on both folding bikes. -Peter

  • @nycewheels Hi Pete!! :D Thanks a lot for your help, I´ll check that bikes on the web that you send me and well let´s see haha I hope I can find a folding bike, if not maybe I should stay with my bike, I´ve restored a retro bike like Holland Style in black color. Thanks a lot and your videos are very helpful!!

  • @richvai No problem man, take care and let us know when you decide on your folding bike. -Peter

  • Im curious to know how tall you are and how much you weigh for reference....im 6' 2" 185 lbs. Would I be too big for this bike?

  • @aaronmac87 I'm 6'2" and weigh about 180. The Vector X27 still fit me well because of the super long seat post and adjustable stem. The seat post flexes a little bit when fully extended but that happens on pretty much every folding bike when you're tall. If you just shift more weight to your pedals (for more power) and off the saddle it is a very sweet ride. -Peter

  • what's this person inseam measurement? it seems the factory default of the bike's seatpost or just the bike geometry overall produce more aggressive position and higher saddle compare to 2009 speed pro tt?

  • @plianto Just got back to your PM, I am 6'2" with a 35" inseam. - Peter

  • Thanks for the vid! It's nice to be able to see this bike "in action" - I've only seen photos. It's looks like quite a nice ride. What are the options for luggage for light-touring?

  • @GregX999 No problem, we love to do those action shots. You can mount the Dahon luggage truss and tour bag on the Vector X27h for front luggage storage and attach a rear rack for additional space. For utility and carry a lot of weight you might want to consider a Burley Travoy trailer. You can find all these in the accessories section of our main site. Thanks for the question!

  • Hi Peter. The video is very nice.

In Italy, the Vector is called "Speed Pro TT" and cost 1,350 euro.

Today I tried a Brompton (S3R). I was not very satisfied and I think I'll stay with my Dahon SpeedD7.... :-)

  • @electricyclist Thanks electric, I really enjoyed making this one. We have the Speed Pro TT here too, it is the model the Vector X27 is replacing. Because the X27 isn't available in the US until 2012 we've been offering the Speed Pro TT as an alternative. The components are slightly different, but the main difference is the X27 has a hydroformed aluminum frame whereas the Speed Pro TT has a steel frame.

Didn't like the Brompton huh? What turned you off about it?

  • @nycewheels The Brompton looks like a cyclette when riding it. It's certainly the most compact and portable, compared to mine. The posture is different and the handlebar is lower than the Dahon Speed D7 (bought in 2007).

The 7 speed helps me to ride very fast, like a normal bicycle.

  • @electricyclist Definitely valid critiques. A lot of people love Dahons because they have the adjustable stem to raise the handlebars higher. An S3R has a low stance and less gearing by its nature. You would probably feel more comfortable with a bike like mine, M6L, which has 6 speeds and a handlebar 4 inches higher than the S. The gearing on the 6 speed Brompton comparable to a standard hybrid type bicycle and would be better for go-fast riding. If you're ever in NYC, stop by to try my bike.

  • Thats one of the slickest bikes I've ever seen. Cool seeing how fast you push it as well - the yellow bike racing the yellow cab - pretty cool stuff dude. Such a quick fold too. Another great vid- keep 'em coming guys!

    @vindicatedbliss

  • @VindicatedBliss Thanks Vindicated, yeah I love that shot racing the taxi. We're getting more and more cool riding shots these days. It's tough to get just the right take to show off what the bike can do. Stay tuned for the Vector X10 video coming around some time next week. -Peter
