  • badass.

  • a 52 yard game winning punt return with a broken rib. everyone is invited to beat that if they can

  • Ouch!!!

  • Very perceptive announcing team. I *always" grab my ribs when I injure my hamstring.

  • Whenever Coach Joe put 28 back there it was a message:

    Guys, this is big.

    BLOCK.

  • I still can't figure out why the Bears couldn't get a dynasty going in the 80's.

  • @panthersXyankees89 they just didn't have enough offense

  • @stackleft They had the run game to do it, was there pass game bad?

  • @panthersXyankees89 When they won it in 1985, the Bears had a healthy Jim McMahon at QB and he audibled out of Ditka's run calls into passes quite often. If you watch the NFC Championship & Super Bowl, it was McMahon's passing (and not the running game) that generated the offense. McMahon's lack of durability in 86, 87, and possibly 88, kept the Bears from winning at least one more Super Bowl. Even though McMahon played in the 87 & 88 Playoffs, he was hurt during those seasons & wasn't the same.

  • @panthersXyankees89 If you look at the dominant teams of the 80's - 49ers, Giants, Redskins, and Bears; there is one drastic difference between Chicago and those other teams; at QB & back-up QB. The 49ers won with Montana, but had Young just in case. The Skins had Schroeder, but had Williams just in case. The Giants had Simms, but won with Hostetler as the back-up. The Bears had an often-injured Jim McMahon, and no reliable back-ups. Those other 3 teams won multiple Super Bowls; the Bears won 1.

  • @ilovegod300 I would say it was much more complicated than just that. Bears had Flutie and Fuller. Young wasn't with the 49ers in 81 or 84 by the way. The Ginats won with HOSS in the 90's by the way not the 80's. And the Skins won in 82 with Theisman. Your post is off all over the place.

  • You also have to remember Darrel Green chased down some of football's greatest running backs!

  • I believe this was Walter Payton's last game.

  • @phorty89 Yep. His last play stopped short of a first down, and the Skins killed the clock.

  • I remeber that return. He either huelrt his stomach or rib cage by making that leap.

  • watching top 100 greatest players on NFL network, Green is #75...probably should be a little higher

  • I remember this game like it was yesterday. D. Green was in his 4th year with the team so he was around 27. He never lost an NFL fastest man competition and was obviously a hall of fame cornerback. Having said that. In my opinion if Darrell wasn't so good at corner and returned punts full time he would have been the best ever!! The Redskins only used Darrell on special occasions returning punts because they didn't want to risk him to injury. Deion who??

  • One of my most memorable plays in Redskin history.

  • see a great return man

  • Gibbs always said Green was the best KR/PR he had ever seen, but he wouldn't risk having him return kicks unless the situation was dire.

  • Run Darrell Run,Darrell Green was one of the best players on the Redskins!!!

  • Darrell Green was so FAST...he could have ran in the Olympics if he chose to...he was running 10 sec - 100's, 20 sec - 200's and 45 secs in the 400...Hell I'm pretty sure in would have been right on Michael Johnson's heels in '96

  • ha ha!!! I cracked up laughing when darrel green jumped over cap bozo!!!

  • dat was amazing yo

  • Cowboys fan.

    Darrell Green = greatness

Glad he made the Hall of Fame.

  • The Skins knocked off the Bears 2 yrs in the divisional playoff round. Damn.

  • In Chicago...as underdogs. The Bears were primed for at least one more ring, but Washington was in the way

  • Yeah Washington just stopped them dead in their tracks. That's why they aren't a dynasty.

  • @WWETNAwrestlingfan15 both time in Chicago. Walter Payton would never win another playoff game after superbowl XX

  • A great game for sure, but not the coldest playoff game ever. Not even top 5.

  • @000SMITH000 Agree. I think the coldest was the AFC Championship Game in 1981, San Diego at Cincinnati - wind chill of 59 below zero. The Ice Bowl, NFL Championship in 1967, Dallas at Green Bay was 13 below zero temperature and I believe the wind chill was around 55 below. I believe the wind chill for the Washington at Chicago 1987 Playoff game was 27 below.

  • LOL ali-Haji Sheik!

  • @Gemini700 One of my favorite all-time jokes:

Hey, did you hear the Giants' whole offense made the Pro Bowl?

    Yeah. Ali Haji-Sheikh! COOL!

The Skins almost had Richie Petitbon kicking for them this season. They couldn't find ANYBODY who could put one through. Then A H-S sets a Super Bowl record...for most XPs. LOL.

  • @donnpatc I don't get it...

  • God what I wouldn't give for runs and days like that again for the Redskins. Green, only the best baby!

  • i was at that cold ass game . its funny now and it was funny then. COLDEST PLAYOFF GAME EVER

  • deion sanders aint got shit on darrel green

  • @eskins757 I'd like to know if there is any stat for returning a kick for a touchdown while injured?

  • @eskins757 I agree with that 100%

  • During the jump over the defender he pulled a muscle and some rib cartilage on his left side

  • I had a feeling that's what it was.

  • bROKE HIS RIB ON THIS PLAY; THIS WAS WHEN PLAYERS REALLY PLAYED THE GAME

  • he didn't break his rib, he pulled a muscle just to right of one of his abs

  • actually tore rib cartilage along with a mild muscle strain

  • Oh cool thanks for the heads up; I won a bet that he broke a rib on the play. Thank God they did not know what you knew, other wise I would have been out twenty dollars. Either way wasnt that a great play that Green made?! He was one of the best at what he did. Thanks again

  • The difference in this game was the Redskins offense could consistently move the ball & didn't have to rely on there defense to win the game for them even though they had a very good & well coached defense.

Darrel Green had broken ribs when he returned this punt & still there wasn't a Bear that could stop him.

  • THe Bears should have won this game. What a blown opportunity. The Bears went up 14-0 early and eventually lost 21-17. In the 4th quarter, Jim McMahon threw an interception in the goal line that killed them. Also, the year before, Payton fumbled deep in Redskin territory. The Bears were winning 13-7 at the half in that game and should have won as well. A shame that the Bears only won one superbowl with all that talent.

  • shoulda coulda woulda. they didn't get the job done and were beat by a bunch of hard ass mother fuckers who played well together. 87 redskins were not the most talented team but they were the best TEAM. T-E-A-M. bears of the mid and late 80's simply didn't have the offense to win multiple super bowl's.

  • @scoresby33 Who cares about should have, a true title team wins it with that lead and brings home the ring! Bears did not win the damn game and thats history.

  • @scoresby33 They got two old-fashioned NFC East mouth-punchings in a row, by a better team on their own field.

  • @scoresby33 Honestly, if they should have won, they would have won. Back them the Bears Offensive line was nowhere nearly as good as it was made out to be, and nowhere nearly as good as Washington's.

  • If you notice, at :45 he grabs his ribs. He ran the rest of the way with torn rib cartilage. Deion would have dropped the ball, fallen to the ground and started crying on the spot!!

Darrell Green is the best player to ever wear a Redskins jersey and my all-time favorite player.

  • lol

  • The Great Darrel Green! Hail to the Redskins!!!!

  • Darrell was funny too. he said in an interview that he ran faster on kick off and punt becasue he was scared to get tackled

  • Deion who - Darrel Green blew him away!

  • Hail to the Redskins!

  • Hail the Giants we beat you the next game after this one and won the super bowl

  • No, you didn't. You're thinking of the '86-'87 season. This clip is from the '87-'88 season when the Redskins won the Super Bowl.

  • no but the diffeernce is playoffs are in jananary so it was 87 when u beat u guys plus u beat the 14-2 bears(same record as us) u lost in the windy battle because remeber people calle the 86 champions in win super in 87 plus if was 87 skins this be 88 nfc playoff game

  • Even though the game is played in '88, it is still the '87 Playoffs because it refers back to the year when the season started. This particular Redskins/Bears game occurred in the '87 Playoffs. The Darrell Green punt return is very well remembered amongst Redskins fans as it happened the year they won the Super Bowl. The next game was against the Vikings at RFK, where an injured Darrell Green stepped up again and ended a late Viking drive, sealing the victory for the Redskins.

  • oh ya now i remeber u verused the bears in the playoffs twice in row that in the playoffs in 86 and 87 my bad my bad

  • you are wrong

  • that was the previous year...

  • the skins played the vikings after this game and won. then the skins beat the broncos in the super bowl. you're thinking of the 1986 season.

  • @ShadowGX9222 You got the wrong season. Jints were last in the East in '87. Skins beat the Vikes for the NFC title then obliterated Denver in the Supe. I watched all three games, so I know. Hail.

  • @ShadowGX9222 Nope, that was the year before (1986). Washington beat Minnesota in the 1987 NFC Championship the next week and destroyed Denver in the Super Bowl.

  • man, i remember that game like it was yesterday. good stuff

  • Wanna talk about underachievers, look no further towards the 86, 87 and 88 bears. Twice they get upset to the Redskins and get blown out by Montana and the 49ers. The Bears were still very good during this time and had one of the best records in the NFL..I have no clue what happened when the playoffs hit.

  • Skins busted Chicago's ass...in Soldier Field......Chicago was still pretty good at the time...

  • do you have the whole game

  • There will never be another Darrell Green ..

  • Darrell Green! The best cornerback of all time!!

  • no - that would be Deion Sanders

  • Deion was good, but Darrell was great!

  • His shoulder pad came undone

  • this is an amazing play but even better its walter paytons last game 1 of the best running backs ever

  • hahaha "he might have pulled a hamstring on that" when he's clearly holding his stomach area

  • yea may be

  • speaking of 20-year careers, how about madden doing the commentary there? He hasn't changed a bit.

  • yeah, Madden never shuts up just like then, haha.

  • Darrell Green was a great player, but this was also the late Walter Payton's last game in the NFL.

  • I'm pretty sure he just meant the run was all over then again Im an alcoholic too look at my handle, lol. And yes Walter Payton was the man too, still think its a travesty that they didn't let him score that TD in the Super Bowl.

  • 'it could be all over....it is all over'....LOL. He said it like the game was ending. There were 12 min left in the 3rd. Funny stuff. I bet Summeral had a hang over that day (he was a big alcoholic back in the day).

  • @jamal22066 HAHAHHA he sounded like he did then, he just wanted to go home and drink and thought it was all over! You could have sworn the game ended then! In reality he could be a genious though because that did end it and they never fell behind in that game after that so it might be a drunks intervention!

  • Punting from your own endzone, into the wind, with D. Green returning, GG.

  • abbirina I remember that return by Eddie Brown on Monday night football!Howard cosell could not believe his eyes.

  • HE Broke his rib on this return ...

  • How does this guy run a 4.2 40 at 40 years of age??? 20 year career with the Redskins. What an athlete!

  • @goffnett He runs that now at 50 years of age. He could still outrun any cornerback in the NFL. Proof that if you take care of yourself and stay healthy, you don't have to decline as much with age.

  • @goffnett Or a 4.4 at 50!

  • @goffnett Darrell Green was an awesome player, for sure. Most people don't know it, but when he retired from the 'Skins at the age of 40 he was still the fastest player on that team. Just amazing.

  • @goffnett

Darrell attributes it to hard work and God.

    Really.

  • I love this return

anyone remember Eddie Brown's return against the Cardinals in the mud on Monday Night Football?

  • Hail Darrell Green.

  • LMAO, I love Summerall...could be over...it is over...he might've hurt it, when he had to jump over somebody. ROFL! The good ole' days.

  • I so miss Madden and Somerall calling games together. They were my favorite broadcast tandem of all time.

  • one of the greatest runs in REDSKINS HISTORY TTHR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Vintage play! GREEN's THE BEAST!

  • Those were the days. Madden, Somerall, and kick ass Redsksins.
