It is possible but not a very popular theory. Think of it thi way guys. The earth starts out in the solar system as an extremely large iron/nickel fragment. Radioactivity fom the sun heats up this fragment and causes it to expand. Iron and nickel when heated retain a large amount of it's heat and takes a long time to cool think of the hood of your car in summer.

Actually this hypothesis is correct.. Why? because Earth gains mass because it collects Dust as it plows through space.. The solar system is also moving! The Earth collects tons of dust particles from space just about every day.. Meteors and comet collisions also add mass to Earth..

Do your self a favor and ask how much material Earth would be collecting 3.5 billion years ago until now... Tectonic plates also play a small role.. But the mass of the Earth did in fact increase.

The CGI is sketchy, but mass was not gained alone by quakes and shifting plates. Meteor and asteroid impacts debris do add mass over time, I won't argue with that fact.. Earth had separate continents before Pangaea was even formed. The only question is Earth's giant impact with a smaller planet that resulted in the forming of the Moon; and how it affected the (then existing) plates.

The Earth actually experiences both. It has some form of tectonics but it also gains mass at the same time.. This video's model is correct accept that it denies or fails to include some geological effects of tectonics. This is because as the Earth grows the plates also expand and move..

Tectonics actually become more of a factor as the planet gets larger.. The growing mantle or core begins to have more effect over the Earth's crust. which can crack, move, and even create mountains.. However, there really hasn't been any major movements of the continents because the puzzle does indeed come back together if you were to shrink the planet...
