  • There is nicer prison in Norway, just look up "Bastøy fengsel", its a rehab-ish prison for the inmates with highest sentence like 15-21 years.

  • Anyone who thinks America does not rehabilitate their prisoners is a fucking idiot.

Google "Texas Rehab of prisoners" then tell me what you think.

  • 21 years aren't the maximum sentence. A federal court may sentence you to a life-time in jail, if the crime is extreme, much like the terrorist-act last year.

  • @MrEchl Who cares, the prison is a 3 star hotel, I'd much rather live there for life then live in a communist shithole like China with all their chinks

  • @Scattnam

Racist against the Chinese now are we?

  • @Scattnam This isn't a prison murderers and rapers end up, it's more like a rehabilitation center for those who haven't done any harm to another person.

  • @MrEchl No ,wrong, its max 21 but they can review you for rest of your life ,and if they think you arent ready they can put you back in again for 21 years.

  • @Tyrkia123 My bad. Still, same principal, sort of, 21 years isn't necesserily the maximum sentence.

  • AND!!! I know for a fact, its bars on every window. This is not good research...

  • Øhm, pretty sure there aren't any recording studios inside norwegian prisons....

  • I think those people are jealous since their country is broke and treat their people like shit:P

Works much betther using money on this, then to send prisoners through a kriminal education inside the walls, to come out again and cost the society more. I guess...

(yeah yeah, the 21 year law's, and a lot of other stuff is fucked up in norway, but bitches please! Don't go there when you would profit more from studying your own fucked up system)

    :)

  • 4:44

  • I am from norway, but i agree with the americans. If you do a crime you should be punished.

Not like having nice rooms, basketball and flat screen tv's.

  • @kims9393 Agree

  • The ignorance is strong in these ones

  • The whole point of throwing people to jail is to rehabilitate them, this prison offers dozens of ways to get educated, you can finish high school there if you haven't done that. Also, if you make friends in prison in a controlled, safe and supporting environment, the chances that you get dragged into a gang is much, much smaller. A big thing with this prison is that its kinda like a school, you are there to learn, change and become a productive member of society. PS, i know my English suck

  • Who did the subtitles for this vid? A 3-year old?

  • 21years for murder and she is saying its like a year!!! WTF is wrong with her, if i get 21 years it is almost the same to me as if I get 42 years. I think Norway is righteous and rehabilitates people like they should. People essentially come out as good person, and they go on to lead a full and happy life. I hope she gets in a situation where you need to end someones life. In U.S dont matter why you did it, you just get life in prision. Thats why u got so many maniacs

  • Worst subtitles ever. You failed on so many of those sentences..

  • 21 years for murder? Are you kidding? SSB (norwegian statistic central bureau) confirms that the average prison time for murder is 3 920 days...

  • I`m proud to be Norwegian! :)

  • bitches please, go and kill some innocent prisoners

  • In Britain you normally spend 15 years in prison for murdering someone.

  • Comment removed

  • u s people is so dum

  • TYT, I like your reporting, but you seriously missed the mark on this one. Have you never heard of a minimum security prison? A first time offender convicted of a non-violent crime? Send them to a prison focused on rehabilitation, so that they don't commit a crime again in the future. This LOWERS crime.

  • Haha, nice journalism right there.

  • If you were put in jail, I'm sure you would have appreciated the prison system in Norway.

  • Who like me read the subtitles the whole time and got confused?!!

  • at least norwegians try to rehabilitate their prisoners...

  • I wish every single American could have a taste of their prison system and QUESTION WHETHER OR NOT THAT THEY FEEL COMFORTABLE BEING BRUTALLY TORTURED TO THE POINT OF LOSING THEIR MIND!

  • what's funny is, if I posted a video on youtube saying I wanna go to the US and comit a crime, I would get refused when I landed and set back to norway.. nazi's ftw! :d

  • Laugh all you want, THIS system works :)

  • Why shouldnt some prisons be nice, not every prisoner in norway gets this fancy stuff. Even if they did, these kind of environments would be much more likely to help a prisoner back to a normal life after beeing in jail. The main problem about prisoners is the hard way to get back to a normal life outside of prison, not doing crime again. A "normal" environment like this would seem known outside the bars. Or.. the dorm ;p

  • Funny that they call it a retreat. Your freedom is still taken away and you have to follow daily routines, go to bed/eat when you're told. In Norway we just care more about prisoners being rehabilitated and get therapy and education so they can function in society when they get out. The reason people become criminals are usually connected with family, upbringing and society letting them down, so in a way, a prison is a chance for society to help them to turn their lives around.

  • TheYoungTurks are right, its time to cut this bleed heart system and start repealing the BULLSHIT 8th ammendment. No cruel or inhuman treatment of prisoners.

This is the worst idea from the founding fathers. We should go back to the middle ages method of punishment.

  • lol @ americans thinking their prison system is the gold standard. and by prison system i mean: sly way to reintroduce black slavery by the back door

  • calm your nerves = communist? lol

  • you dont get 21 years for killing someone... Normally they serve around 5 to 6 years...

  • @Godfred78 whut?

  • @Msgulrot I know a guy who broke into his girlfriends appartment and strangled her to death after a grusom beating. (she was unrecognisable) They're 1 year old child was in the same room... He then went to the hospital to fix his hands as he had cut himself badly as he broke down the door... A grusom bloody murder committed in a jalous rage... He served 4,5 YEARS in jail. Now he runs a fast food place 30 kilometers from where he killed his girlfriend...

That is WHUT i'm talking about.

  • @Godfred78 you know him?

    well,he`s fucked up

    And,just asking :p

  • in norway all the denticed offices are like that and beter

  • Do you know that Norway has like 1-3 murders a year? :P

  • @Irohin Are you *Stupd??? 1-3 murders a year its Pr day. Populaed 4,9 mil pepole Only! Tats You say it not criminolegy its unknowlegness Norway, Please don`t say its better Do like you, 1-3 strik law! And put them in prison trow away the Keey. And is like Us, you have 21 years, Maybe can go after served 1/3 of sentence if good behviore! Some if crazy like killers, thay given protected sentenc often, that meen can put them away 4 Ever Sir... If repited ofenders in violence and rapes..

  • @faiko08 I meen serve 2/3 of senten time..

:) forsto nesten ingenting :P

  • This is one prison, not ALL norwegian prisons... From what I know, most norwegian prisons are much worse, but they still are better than the american ones. In Norway about 20% of the inmates come back to prison after 2 years, in USA 50-60% do. Now tell me again our system doesen't work.

  • @stonee206 uhm, almost all of the prisons are somewhat luxurious

  • Yea we do have some of the lowest crime rates in the world, only problems is Illegal immigrants commit crimes just to live in a norwegian prison instead of there homeland. Cause norwegian prison is better.

  • And for the mass-murderer, he's gonna get 30 years. Then again get sentenced again, he will never be out of prison ever again. And no, he wont be i na prison like this. Get your facts straight, hillbillys.

  • @peeinmyurin yes. Breivik will never ever get out, there is no way... We will prosecute him and he will get 30 years and then an extended life sentence. We have never had a terrorist attack before, but we did something else than the US did after 9/11: we gave the terrorist a trial, and we put him in prison. We also strengthened our democratic values, instead of banning crazy right-wing people...

  • Shut up TYT you have no idea what you are talking about, you know there is a reason for the seriously low crime in Norway. I fucking hate your show and you suck. All you dickheads are thinking about is vengeance, but we have a rehabilitating system which is supposed to make one stop doing felonies and rather get themselves together and get a fresh and better start on their life when they get out. And it is working better than any other prison system, so just shut the fuck up and try for once to

  • All prisons in Norway are not like that. Yes, some of the new upgraded ones, but we also have filthy, oldfashion prisons not cosy at all

  • the max senctence in norway is 21 years but it can be repeated

    5 times

  • it is noth 21 yaers... it is about 6-10 years

  • @MRJ0KEZ

    False

  • @ulriksj dude i live in norway....

  • @MRJ0KEZ

So do I. "About 6-10 years"? That's pretty vage...

  • Rehabilitation is better than retribution. Period.

There is a reason why Norway has the lowest re-offending rate in the world.

  • Its true, our prison system is embarrasing and ridiculous!

  • we can youse a million dollar on painting and all that shit, because we cot money to do it. one million dollar is nothing for a company in Norway! we are fucking rich Amierica, get over it !!

  • I do agree that the Norwegian system are waaay to nice on these ppl, I hate it -.-

  • Norway knows how to fix people. the usa only knows how to kill them.

  • I still cant believe how Childish America is when it comes to murder. and especially CENK and ANA you think thats lib? in my country its 16 years maximum.

And the USA has NEVER known a goddamn thing about how to make society FUNCTION

  • Why so many dislikes?

  • 4:05 I wonder, who thought it was fun to sneak in this word here! LOL. They say calm your nerves, not communist!

  • been in prison in norway, and i had a bucket to shit and piss in at my cell, and had a small cage to get some fresh air for 1 hour once a day! stupid fucks...

  • @thugproofclips Og dette var hvilket fengsel?

  • That place looks like a paradise resort compared to where I live. And Im just a normal citizen in a suburban area. They might as well allow women and men to congregate in the prison..oh wait they already did

  • atleast these prisons dont make people even worse then when they came in

  • The guy in this video is a fucking asshole, seriously man reconsider how you act.

  • to be fair, norway DO have too much cash

  • @BenBenz16 im danish btw :p

  • Fy faen så tette amerikanere er.. jeg ska begynne å be for amerikanere, fyyyy helvete for et nedrulla folkeslag.

  • thank`s norway!!! thumbs up if you sems that norway is awesome!!!

  • satan så dumme amerikanerne er, jeg får vondt i nesen

  • satan så domme amerikanere e eg får vondt i nasen

  • @flash453 "domme" skrives "dumme"...

  • you can get your education of choice for free in norwegian prisons

  • Who do i have to kill to get in?

  • i`m from halden where this prison is, just saying !

  • the us isnt a hole for nothing.

  • Americans are stupid. Push a man hard enough, and he will push back, making everything even worse. That's their policy. In Norway we REHABILITATE prisoners, and no it does not always work, but it helps. I know a few bad apples that have been in prison, and it has most definitively been good for them. Also, we do have tougher prisons for the worst criminals, not all prisons in Norway looks like this.

  • They should make a prison like this one in New Jersey.

  • 1148 people are prisoners in the US with internet access

  • I live in Norway and prisons do not look like this niggers :)

  • I actually live in Norway and you guys have to understand why this system is actually better than the system you have. For example the amount of crimes in relation to our population is much, much, MUCH lower than in the US. Well why is this you might ask? Well its because the system is better all in general. And when he said Anders Breivik is just getting 21 years thats actually false. I lack remaining words , but i could probably write 20 pages on this. So many doesnt understand how it works...

  • @Litlekalsoey bra sagt kamerat..men dette er litt overdrevet...ben ther don that,,,det er ikke sååååå fint.

  • he is not going to jail xD thay say he is an psychopat !! so he gets treatment

  • SOMEONE'S JELLY AT US :DDD

  • The entirety known as the norwegian prison system probably requires more then our entire army. Not due to the share numbers of inmates but because of the way they are treated. I made a school project about this. Noone would believe it...

  • What sucks is that the prisons are ten times nicer than the retirement homes. That's horrible.

  • I admit, this prison was kind of nice, but I would not want to get locked up. It can't be fun walking around in the same area, not being able to get out or anything. This would be nice for maybe the first week. After that I would be bored to death. If I can't handle being inside doing nothing for 5 days it should be really hard not having the choice to go out, not being able to decide for themselves for several years. But I can totally see the point. This prison is really nice.

  • 'mericans -.-

  • and then people dont understand why alot of muslims are doing killing and rape !

lets all have fun move to norway and lets kill people !

  • The terrorist was in complete isolation until like october-ish, then he was allowed to go outside for an hour or so, and then back in. Just now in december, he was allowed to read magazines. He's not allowed to watch TV.

This is not what you get just by committing a crime, it depends on what you did, and how you act. The killer probably won't be let out to these kinda rooms for years.

  • Criminals are scums of the human race and those that commit crimes such as rape and murder should be shot.

  • @castelinop How about a justification who does not look like it is written by a 5 year old?

If you kill a man to protect your wife. Do you then deserve to die?

  • @castelinop you are the reason why i can't stand Americans. Just that line of thinking, it's making me fucking sick.

  • america has highest prison population in the world...usa crazy country of criminals

  • Oh because America is just that great, these guys are a joke.

  • @MrThreeNips that's not what they're saying dude.. hey you gotta admit that's quuite nice for a prison! Don't get so defensive. I'm from Finland btw.

  • We dont get 21year if we kill somebody.

if a person is a massacare, then he can get 21year.

if i go down to centrum and shoots a guy infront of the cops, the prision time is between 5-10-15years (depends of the lawyer) but after 2-3year with good behavier u get out... Norway are to nice...

  • Thumbs up if you live in norway!!

  • The thing about Norway is: they understand that treating people like rabid animals will make them behave like rabid animals as well. Who would you rather like to meet in a dark alley? A former prison inmate who's suffered through fifteen years of an American hellhole of a prison, being maltreated and maltreating others in turn just to survive - or a Norwegian ex-convict who was treated like a person, and encouraged to re-integrate into society?

  • In Germany, the longest possible prison sentence is fifteen years (for murder), although extremely dangerous culprits can be detained beyond that point.

  • half the guards are women, yes, but it's not to make it more confortable for the prisoners. It's because Norway has gotten so far within gender equality that women and men no longer choose jobs because of their gender. And Anders Bering Breivik, who killed a lot of people at Utøya is most likely going to be sent to a mental hospital, were his disease, paranoid schizophrenia. He'll be at this hospital until he has been declared sane, wich will proboably never happen.

  • Only serial killers and mass murderers gets 21 years, ordinary "sane" murderers gets 6 to 12 years.

    Insane ppl cannot be convicted.

  • Norway <3

  • Even tho I am a norwegian i dont think that the prison should look like this.. If u look to the elderly home in Norway u can see the difference. its not fair. the elders aint taken propper care of. and even some elders have to sleep in what they call "provisional" rooms aka BATHROOMS. seriusly. how can someone say that the prisons should look that damn good and the elders witch have given norway its wealth have to be put in bathrooms cos they dont have any other rooms available

  • Was this a reaction to something in the media?

  • Chenk, you are ignorant! I am Norwgian, I knew people on Utøya, and still I love that the norwegian prisons look that way. We are rehabilitating our criminals, we try to make it so that they don't feel neglected by society, we try to give them hope for the future.

ABB is a horrible human beeing, but he is Norwegian and unlike America we treet our country-men the same. I wish we could make exeptions, but it dosent worke that way.

He'll pay for he's crime, you wait and see.

  • why can not Americans just shut up and stop thinking that they are so much bether then everyone

  • Technically, 21 years is not the top time of inprisonment. Anyone who has killed someone might have to stay for life. They're going to be the victim of the legal process, in Norway, called "Involuntary commitment" (google it). Which basicly is about adding time to the time they were originally sentanced to stay. They do this if the convict have not shown a big enough improvement considering his/hers behaviour or if he/her may still be considered a threat to the society. Ergo, life sentance.

  • @Svineinfluenza True, and not true. 21years is the maximum sentence. The "Involuntary commity" has the oppurtunity to give him a new 21year sentance. So it's 2 different sentances but the resoult is the same. This can happen 5times, so you can never stay inn for more then 126years :P

  • @IamAWarHeroFromHalo2 lol, didnt know that ^^

  • you rarely even get the 21 years for murder here..

  • @Rhinotmetus AGREED

  • Its funny because that just looks like a shitty school in norway...

  • The hilarious thing about this video, is that is says more about the narrowmindedness of the Americans than it does about the Norwegian prison system!

  • And fyi: even though it looks nice, you still can't go wherever whenever you want to. You're still locked in!

  • Please, this is one out of many Norwegian prisons and it's the only one that looks like this. I've been inside of another Norwegian prison, and let me tell you: it did definitley not have flat screen TVs.

  • The last time i checked it was more crime in the USA then in Norway... just saying.

  • the killer in norway dont get out never. when he is done in prisone he get to a metall house or something. so he wont get out

  • We norwegians live in a stupid socialist country. It's more important to care for criminals over here than to punish them. I dare this youtube user to show the quality of hospitals and elderly care centers in Norway, cause they are nowhere near the standards of prisons. So caring for criminals is more important than caring for sick and elderly. Fuck this sick country.

  • @apox555 who cares what you think

  • @scarlace clearly your stupid face cared enough to give a reply. But yeah, I guess you and your friends would like the prison to be nice when you're there.

  • @apox555 what a well funded and solid reply, you clearly thought your comment through in so many ways, I congratulate you and wish you a merry christmas

  • i don't get why this video is down rated, I'm from norway and this makes me pissed of, all this shit is my tax money getting used on people that kill rape and steal :(

  • @15Protech And well spent money it is, so they won't do it again. You'd rather see them have a miserable time so they can go out, kill, rape and pillage again? How bout seeing beyond your own two feet?

  • Loool, That's a normal dentist office :D

  • Btw, wonder who.. ''Six countries in USA have together borrowed 578 billion from the Pension Fund. This corresponds to a debt of 450,000 NOK per family.''

''Barack Obama and the United States owes 217 billion Norway, Germany and Angela Merkel owe us 61 billion, Silvio Berlusconi, and Italy has 44 billion in debt to Norway and David Cameron and the UK owe Norway 107 billion.''

  • I think you don't have the slightest idea of what you're talking about. As hullupaivat mentioned, a society will benefit greatly from rehabilitating criminals, and make them functioning members of society - contrary to locking them up in a hell hole and forget about them.

In the US, drug addicts and alcoholics is locked up, to ease the government on expenses.

Now, you can wonder why the incarnation rate in the US is over 10 times the rate in Norway.

  • Omg! what a bad job on the subtitles!!!

  • Well, Halden Prison is not representative for prisons in Norway. It's Norway and Europe's newest prison, and a prestige project of sorts. The average criminal (not one of the some 250 people this prison is built for) lives in much more modest conditions. That said, they're still vastly more humane than the US prisons, and judging by our crime and recidivism rates, there's a case to be made in favor of the Norwegian system.

  • did she actually say that by killing one person you get 21 years in jail in Norway? Because that is infact wrong.. In Norway you can get even 4 years for that, but it really depends. But yes it is a fucking holiday inn norwegian prisons. It should be way harder and they shouldn't get all the fucking things they get now. I know this because i'm am an norwegian. But hey, all prisons in the world are fucked up :/

  • In Germany you get 15 year maximum for murder.

  • 21 years in Norway.... You only get 16 in Denmark :)

But hey... Norway socialist????? It's a really tradition bound country with alot of religious ties. and last but not least, what a sick comment on the end there. You would want some extra vengence.... hmm... aren't most of us citizens christians???? Vengence isn't very christian. Says something about you as an American. (not all, but you).

  • Norway is the standard to which all other countries should compare themselves to. I am an American, and I can fully admit that the US is a complete shit hole.

  • The norweigians problem is not to hold a standard in prison, the real problem is that the prisons been fill up with foreinger people.

  • prison is a business in US, so the more the people in prison, the more they get income

  • You can change in 21 years,my goodness ppl.America is just fine with sending 13 yrs old kids to prison for life without parole. As if they cant grow up and change like the rest of us.

  • Its true, alot of people become taxpaying citizens. However, i dont think its really any punishment. Like Anders Breivik gets to go to a "mental hospital"

  • Hmm, They have a good point.. Just think.. Anders behring Breivik? I don't want him to have a so good life in prison.. If i had stayd in a prison in USA, he might gott beaten up every day, because of all the people who sit inside ther, hate people who kill children.......

  • Ignorant americans.

If they had done their research they wouldve known that 2/3 of inmates inn norway ar completely rehabilitated and they usually end up as taxpaying citizens, so america before you disagree on our prisonsystem you should ask yourself if investing in improving ppl compared to making them more rotten and hating the system is something bad.

if you would stop paying CEOs billions of dollars inn bonuses and invest inn the wellbeing of your country, maybe you would see the difference

  • haha. college students live in bader rooms than that? amagad, sounds like prison to me. get some money usa.

  • Also that woman thing you mentioned. That's sexist. My friends mother works at that prison you are talking about. Why? Because they closed down prisons in Østfold to make that one in Halden. She had to work there, and her co-workers are mainly men. So please, if you ever ask why we think you are dumb as shit; Think about all the comments on these videos.

  • Do you really think that our prisoners like that? How would you like to be holed up at the same place for 21 years? We wan't to give them opportunities so that they are better (wo)men when they are released. Also for the dentist office, almost all offices are like that. Why? Because we have a better economy than you, it pays itself eventually.

  • OK, back in July when I first saw this video, I was completely opposed to the Norwegian prison system. I had viewed prisons as something to deter more crime by punishment. However, I've slowly come to the realization that this is an ingenious system. It aims to reform the damaged, not break. Simply astounding. It goes against conventional wisdom AND IT WORKS. Not only is it cheaper (it really is) but crime rates are lower than here. I think I wanna go live in Norway. They aren't ruled by fear :)

  • Umh.. the punishment isn't supposed to be that you have to live in terrible conditions, but rather that your freedom is taken away. But yeah, Norway could spend their money a little wiser, but wtf, they have oil..

  • They have flat screen TVs because we stopped selling any other type of TV in Norway many years ago..............

  • Maybe because you were brought up in a f***ed up country -where you think its better to just lock the criminals and forget about them instead of trying to fix the social gap the compels people to commit crime - you don't understand why the rehab in Norway is that way.

Norway is an example of society, and you should put an effort in your little brain to understand how a healthy society should function.

  • @hullupaivat i fucking agree. US sucks..

  • And that's why prisoners in Norway don't try to escape jail.

  • typical sentences in norway can be:

    Manslaugther: 3-7 years

    2. degree murder: 7-13 years

    1. degree murder: 13-21 years

    drugs(weed, hash, cocaine) 10- 20grams: fine

drugs(cocaine, meth, heroin) 500g-> kilo(s) : 6months-15 years (dependent on amount and previous convictions)

rape: 1-5 years (rarely enough evidence to convict)

  • Also regarding Breivik (mass murderer); He will most probably get "detained for 21 years", which can be renewed as long as the legal system thinks he will do harm. I believe he will spend the rest of his life in prison, because I dont think he never will let go of his cause (anti-multiculture society), and thus be rehabilitated.

But if he is deemed fit to be released into society some time after 21 years, I believe that he also should get that chance (though some other guy might kill him)

  • @Illuminatiii After 21 years he will go into a institution, Duuh

  • @SkinoReturns Well, now it seems like he is declared insane, so he might not even be in prisone, just a institution.

  • @Illuminatiii Hopefully, he'll be away for life.

  • The most "dangerous" criminals in norway are in more "secure" prisons, however they usually get transfered to prisons such as shown here, or into apartment buildings on the out side (much like your parole system).

The thing is, here we want to educate prisoners, many get a college degree while being in prison + regular professional help (psychology etc.)

So many get back into society and starts to live a regular life again. (believe reincarnation rate is around 20%)
