Americans and others take note, she was a 'prisoner' of the Soviet Bloc at this time. They tried to control minds and bodies, but they could NOT take her soul, as you can hear in her voice. @RealShadowman - this video is from 1986. The iron curtain was not removed until 1989. At the time she is singing, Eastern Bloc residents were mostly FORBIDDEN travel in the free world because defection was such a great problem. Defector is a word which only exists because of communist philosophy, because those of us in the free world are always welcome to leave the country of our birth.

I am VERY puzzled that another American would not believe the totalitarian regime that existed there.

She was neither born nor ever lived behind the iron curtain. She might not have ever visited any of the countries of the eastern bloc. She traveled all over the world. As a matter of fact she has lived in different countries and recorded for foreign record labels. As an artist she was more active outside of her homeland than at home.

She started her international career in 1969 at the age of 23. Citizens of her homeland were free to travel anywhere they wanted. Not only was her homeland not a part of any bloc, it was a founder of the non-aligned movement, whose goal was dismantling of the blocs, disarmament, peace, and peaceful coexistence.
