@theblueangel28 So I decided I'm gonna go ahead and make the vocal beauty finale, only thing is I'll gonna have to use ALL live clips, and I'm gonna have to be really picky about which ones I choose.
Oh, and I'm gonna reupload the Vocal Trinity Battles, but again, all of them are gonna have to be live clips.
@theblueangel28 Yep! That's their issue lol: Audiovisual content, which is why I have to take annoying, but necessary precautions, but it's all good. My channel has felt so empty since I had to get rid. The only vid I can't put back up is the Queens of Melisma one, but oh well.
Streisand is the most versatile.... the benefit of having an extremely high range and yet when she was at her prime at fucking killer vibrato... the greatest here
if mariah doens't appear here..is totally bullshit, even tough you like ker or not....i didnt see minnie riperton also....so you're not being fair (if i can say that)
Dame Shirley Bassey - Welsh through and through, ( I know she is part nigerian and part english, but She's from Tiger Bay in Cardiff, so she classes herself as welsh, and boy! Does she sing like she's welsh!
Bassey the Belter takes the prize here. If it is simply a question of lung power she takes the cake. Easily. In fact, some of her most impressive belting is not featured in this video. Whitney and Streisand round out the top 3. But where are Eydie Gorme and Patti Labelle?
are dis divas? or DIVAstated? wheres Mariah Carey , Christina, Beyonce, Patti LaBelle? If this is are only divas den i should not listen to Music anymore.
@NiRie017 If you think that Christina or Beyonce should be considered the greatest then you are like the rest of today's generation.... completed corrupted by the shit that music has become
For me, LINDA EDEN is absolutely the best, without doubt!!! She's so powerful, how can she sing in a such stronger way so much time without breathing, Jesus Christ!! And it seems to be so easy for her...maybe she's not a human being x)
I feel it's Bassey and then Mahalia. Sinatra even said Bassey has the best pipes he has ever heard. And your Mariah scene gave the video a nice pause.
@Chimier obviously your a fucking losers hater who needs to jump off the EPSB in New York you second rate faggot bitch I beat your fucking hater ass!!!!!!!!
amazing! I'm gonna say Linda Eder. I've seen her live and it's uncanny..she is soooo very awesome. I've always said if Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand's voices could have a child...It would be Linda Eder's voice!
@tikifabulous i agree, that is why i voted for her too, b/c hearing her live you are much better able to get an understanding of how much power there is. its astonishing. her voice would cut through the others, with the possible exceptions of Bassey and Mahalia
you know, one thing i do wanna point out is Linda Eder's mastering at handling her mike
she one of the very best there has ever been at working her mike, which for a belter really is an art, depending on the vowel sound, the swell and drop in volume even within a syllable
she is always perfectly placed, completely in alignment with the sound shes producing
She (Shirley Bassey) has so many great ones from the Royal Variety performances and Royal Gala. It is like Des Oconnor once said, Dame Shirley is the only performer who has 22 closing numbers during a concert! I think Judy would have ranked better in this battle if she had all of the modern sound systems and mics. This was very entertaining. Great idea. Thanks Chimier!
@lydee09 i definitely agree about Judy. and thats one thing about Linda Eder. the way she sings is not really picked up by a mike, shes actually producing a lot of sound that is carried over it. she and Bassey certainly have the most volume. Whitney and Barbra fared as well as they did b/c of the brightness of tone, pitch, frequency, and head tones that come through. and that their sound is more commercial and familiar to most of todays listeners
@theblueangel28 For Judy's volume I highly recommend you the Judy at thePalace concerts from 1953-54. In "After you've gone" sung only with piano I think she blew off the mike. We have to consider that most of these Judy recordings were made with the mikes hanging on the roof
@BELTERFAN yeah, i looked for Palace clips for this video, becuase i remember how crazy her voice was, but I didnt find any on youtube that were really quality. of course the record is incredible. and i know there used to be the clip "vaudevilles back at the Palace and Im on the bill!!!" but i wasnt able to find it again
@theblueangel28 Exactly! I bought two cd's from two different nights, both with another cd, one from her last concert in Copenhague (where you can see the dramatic change in her voice, but "for once in my life" and "I'd like to hate my self in the morning" are gems) and other with duets. But the highlight was "The Palace" album though in one night she was a little hoarse she could belt it out with ease. For Patti LuPone the "Rainbow high" in the Merv Griffin show is incredible!
@BELTERFAN yeah, I love that, i sent him that clip too, but thought the one from the broadway theater was effective bc it showed how she could fill the room. Im not a Patti like fan, nor Lloyd Weber, but that pairing of that actress and that show is by far one of the best there has ever been. i listened to it on the record everyday
@theblueangel28 Not a fan of Lloyd Weber either, but huge fan of LuPone I saw her in Gypsy and she really can fill the room. I wish I could trip to NY more often to see more shows :( . Probably you don´t know them but I totally recommend for anyone who is interesting in volume and power Mina Mazzini from Italy and Rocio Jurado from Spain. If you want I can like you to some clips
@Chimier Absolutely especially since 1966 till late 70's. Have you seen or heard her concerts at La Bussolla? Fierce! In "E poi verra l' autunno" and "Georgia on my mind" she broke the mike lol
@WhitneyElizabethH Liza Minnelli! Big fan of hers! The voice is similar but not the quality. Big belter especially from late 60's till late 80's tough she developed a wobbled on the vibrato. She could really hold a note, even today, on a good day, tough her voice is really damaged Judy and Liza made a concert together in 1965 and is great to watch, is on youtube. I link you to some highlights in her career.
Yes: watch?v=el7pPVhrK6Y
The world goes round (probably my favorite): watch?v=GZy3iF3z6Qs
I had no doubt that Dame Shirley Bassey would take first place as the awesome powerhouse vocalist and performer that she was and still is. Your selection of Whitney clips were fantastic, I really miss her strong healthy voice. I love the spirit she displays as she sings now. Will your Finalist Battle video between the wonderful Whitney and the amazing Dame Shirley Bassey be based on the past solely or also the present vocal ability? I can't wait to see the clips you choose for Dame Shirley.
keep watching this video, just so much diva vocal power lol and my girl mariah aint even in here besides three seconds :P could you tell me the song at the intro of linda eder at 5:15 and 6:00?
Chimier, what do you make of K.D. Lang's voice? Amazing breath control, best ever I think. Powerful voice and warm tone. Sings with effortless soul. Should she be on this list?
@Rosannasfriend I never really thought about k.d. to be honest. Me and theblueangel28 were kinda at the end of our tether looking for voices that would fit lol, but then he brought LuPone up and we were all sorted. Send me some of k.d's belting stuff. I knew she had a powerful voice, and I've heard quite a number of songs from her, but I'm not all in her music like that lol.
@Chimier For some reason I always thought she was of latin and or jewish heritage. lol.......Oh and my vote goes to Whitney and the rest of my top five is
2. Barbra Streisand
3. Mahalia Jackson
4. Shirley Bassey
5. Linda Edner
6. Mariah Carey (LMFAO had to put her on the list)
Curious to know, I'm not a real big fan hers but her chest voice can be quite impressive at times, why no Celine?
@MiamiChicky Celine produces some power in a very small area of her voice, and even there it doesn't compare to these ladies. Her voice is way too thin and pinched, and has far more tension though she's producing a much smaller sound.
@Chimier Since you put it that way I have to agree and it also answers my question as to why I don't see Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, or even Aretha Franklin in this video. But this video is still astounding.
Patti LuPone hands down! "Everything's Coming Up Roses" is the true test of any belter, which is why Bernadette Peters did a tad sub-par on it. Patti has a truly powerful voice, one that is not conventionally beautiful, a la Merman, but it is an instrument of true power, and even true tenderness when called for.
I only gave one vote for my first choice which was whitney. Hmmmm i think il have to say shirley for number 2 in power :) love this video, power vocals for sure!
Chimier That was your opinion and I stick to the facts in the news on line and on television If there is smoke and there is fire. The reporters were 99 percent accurate.Whether you like it or not.
Chimier You must not be following the news?? It was written about Whitney using thousand of dollars for drugs. It was a fact. . I will not vote for people doing drugs. I still vote for Shirley. It is up to you to count my vote.
@yokelam007 No, it wasn't FACT, it was pure speculation. LOL at FACT. The National Enquirer saying she spent thousands of drugs doesn't constitute as fact.
I could care less who you vote for, just as long as the person is in this video.
@yokelam007 it isn't fact that she did drugs on tour, yokelam007. Yes, we know her past struggles with drugs, but as far as we know she hasn't done anything in the last 4 years since leaving Bobby.
For your listening pleasure check Shirley's singing at 50 years old: Born To Sing (1994)on Thorneycroft1937 channel. At 60 years old check out the video: Lady Is A Tramp / Who Wants To Live Forever on sas9023055 channel, the second song she sings just blows me away. And then to listen to her sing at 73 years old check out on Thorneycroft37's channel :Almost There (2009) . She is phenomenal and has such power still! She amazes me that she seems to have even more power now. Yes, I vote Shirley!
Great idea Chimier! I do respect the other singers, and absolutely adore Babs and Judy. But my vote is for the FABULOUS Dame Shirley Bassey. She is awesome and her vocals we were awesome and still are impeccable now at 73yrs old. The clips you have of her don't really show the half of Shirley's power. My second choice would be Linda Eder. She was pretty great. Thanks for the introduction. I have seen Babs and Whitney Live. Love them, but they don't hold a candle to Dame Shirley Bassey, IMO.
I vote for Dame Shirley Bassey. Her vocal power was crystal clear and she did not need a microphone to sing in the concert halls. I had attended four Shirley's live concerts in Sydney. Each time my seat was at the last row from the stage and yet ,I 'm able to hear every single word she sang. Sorry, for Whitney Houston who was so high with cocaine and her audience walked out from her concert. Shirley is 74yrs this Jan. and her fans still looking forward for a world tour. Shirley is a legend....
@yokelam007 Do you have any proof that Whitney was high with cocaine? No, I doubt you do. This is a voting video. Pick your two choices and move on and keep the comments cute.

Shirley Bassey is my 1 choice and Shirley Bassey is my second choice. No question about it in my book.

@jarbydones You can't vote for the same person twice.

@Chimier the person is joking, lol.
Rosannasfriend 1 year ago
@Rosannasfriend I know lol, but I hate it when people do stuff like that. It's like "We get it. So and so is your #1 diva". LOL
Chimier 1 year ago
@Chimier okay. Judy Garland is my 2nd.

@countingsheepies You can vote for two people. Who does your second vote go to?
Chimier 1 year ago
@Chimier Are you saying Shirley is half black?
MiamiChicky 1 year ago
@MiamiChicky Yep. You didn't know that? She's half Nigerian.
Chimier 1 year ago
@Chimier For some reason I always thought she was of latin and or jewish heritage. lol.......Oh and my vote goes to Whitney and the rest of my top five is
2. Barbra Streisand
3. Mahalia Jackson
4. Shirley Bassey
5. Linda Edner
6. Mariah Carey (LMFAO had to put her on the list)
Curious to know, I'm not a real big fan hers but her chest voice can be quite impressive at times, why no Celine?
MiamiChicky 1 year ago
@MiamiChicky Celine produces some power in a very small area of her voice, and even there it doesn't compare to these ladies. Her voice is way too thin and pinched, and has far more tension though she's producing a much smaller sound.
Chimier 1 year ago
@Chimier Since you put it that way I have to agree and it also answers my question as to why I don't see Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, or even Aretha Franklin in this video. But this video is still astounding.
MiamiChicky 1 year ago
@MiamiChicky Thank you! :)
Chimier 1 year ago
Patti LuPone hands down! "Everything's Coming Up Roses" is the true test of any belter, which is why Bernadette Peters did a tad sub-par on it. Patti has a truly powerful voice, one that is not conventionally beautiful, a la Merman, but it is an instrument of true power, and even true tenderness when called for.

Chimier That was your opinion and I stick to the facts in the news on line and on television If there is smoke and there is fire. The reporters were 99 percent accurate.Whether you like it or not.

@yokelam007
yet again, How are they facts? the news have gotten plenty of things wrong. your nothing but a failed troll.
Dismissed
WhitneyElizabethH 1 year ago
Chimier You must not be following the news?? It was written about Whitney using thousand of dollars for drugs. It was a fact. . I will not vote for people doing drugs. I still vote for Shirley. It is up to you to count my vote.
yokelam007 1 year ago
@yokelam007 No, it wasn't FACT, it was pure speculation. LOL at FACT. The National Enquirer saying she spent thousands of drugs doesn't constitute as fact.
I could care less who you vote for, just as long as the person is in this video.
Chimier 1 year ago

Yes, I vote Shirley!
lydee09 1 year ago
Great idea Chimier! I do respect the other singers, and absolutely adore Babs and Judy. But my vote is for the FABULOUS Dame Shirley Bassey. She is awesome and her vocals we were awesome and still are impeccable now at 73yrs old. The clips you have of her don't really show the half of Shirley's power. My second choice would be Linda Eder. She was pretty great. Thanks for the introduction. I have seen Babs and Whitney Live. Love them, but they don't hold a candle to Dame Shirley Bassey, IMO.
lydee09 1 year ago
I vote for Dame Shirley Bassey. Her vocal power was crystal clear and she did not need a microphone to sing in the concert halls. I had attended four Shirley's live concerts in Sydney. Each time my seat was at the last row from the stage and yet ,I 'm able to hear every single word she sang. Sorry, for Whitney Houston who was so high with cocaine and her audience walked out from her concert. Shirley is 74yrs this Jan. and her fans still looking forward for a world tour. Shirley is a legend....
yokelam007 1 year ago
@yokelam007 I love Shirley too, but lets not turn this thread into a battle please. You chose Shirley that's great, Chimier will mark that in. :)
Rosannasfriend 1 year ago
@yokelam007 Do you have any proof that Whitney was high with cocaine? No, I doubt you do. This is a voting video. Pick your two choices and move on and keep the comments cute.

There is a disturbing lack of votes for Mahalia Jackson....
So I will vote for her
