Not a good idea to use your arms... It would take a lot of effort to turn... For beginners go search for snowboardprofessor's tutorial... They have 9 videos for beginners that really help me when i started about a year ago... After 1 season, i learn how to link turns and curved...

@SK8Rlgd when you demo for lessons you have to over exadurate (dunno how to spell it) so the people your teaching can clearly see what it is your body is doing and the arms out help with keeping your shoulders level with the board and looking where you wanna go when starting out

@bencsk8r - Just watched it again several times. She did swing her arms around at :23, :26, :31, :44, and :50 second marks. She did kick her rear foot around at the :46 second mark. Yes, easy mistake to kick rear foot around. My problem with the whole thing is that if this is supposed to be "Beginner" information, can't they re-shoot it again and again until everything is perfect and the demo is exactly what beginners are supposed to be doing? I am an instructor and have been for 19 years.

@fmlXskater22 well it's yellow and it has a hood to keep your ears warm and a pocket in the front to keep your hands toasty and to store items like your mitts and toque and goggles. She also wears it a size or two too big because baggy stylin. Folks call this style of sweatshirt many things but some common ones are bunny hug, kangaroo or just a hoodie. Hoodie is what the cool kids use though. You can also get ones that zip up in the front.

Im going to take a wild guess and say she has absolutely no AASI training... The mechanics of snowboarding are really complicated and are exceptionally difficult to explain to beginners. If you want real, effective instruction on riding a snowboard, buy REAL (and private) lessons.

If you're doing J-turns, you'll want to bend your knees a bit more than that. The idea is to use your edge to turn rather than sliding your board. (P.S. She has a really nice board. I can only guess which model of bindings she's using. But they're really nice too.)
