boy, old Verne could get great show out of the lads every now and then - these years were a real high point for the AWA. Wow, the Road Warriors in the same ring as Crusher and The Axe - generations collide!!!
I know. The AWA was still on fire back then. By 1986, they were well behind the WWF and the NWA. I'll tell you one thing that hurt the promotion back then. They needed a world champ that could carry the promotion. Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair were selling tickets. Rick Martel wasn't the answer, and Nick Bockwinkle was too old.

It seems like the AWA lost most of their big-name talent ironicly around the same time that they got their ESPN deal in 1985.
