let me add my voice to the debate: love the Berlin original, like SOAD, don't feel the SOAD version of "The Metro" captures the mood or the essence of the tune...
Can I be 16 once again when this song hit me when I was a sophomore in high school and fell in love with bands and Nu Wave culture like Devo, Berlin, Duran Duran, Prince and the Revolution, Andre Cymone, Kraftwerk etc. Doc Brown I need that souped- up De Loren pronto. Thanks for the upload you just made a Black Nerd smile at a great memory.
Never realized how theatrical Terri Nunn was/is until I started watching old Berlin footage. Seems like she still wanted to be an actress even after she started singing.
You all are entitled to your own opinions, but I listened to the SOAD version, and it just doesn't have the feel of "a metro" which is what the song is all about, which is somebody riding on a train. I like SOAD, but their version doesn't compare to the Berlin's original version, especially with the driving synth tracks, which makes this song come alive when played in front of an audience. I'm glad that Berlin was able to reproduce this song "live" like it was played on the CD. Great job!
Being a teen in the 80's was awesome! The way of dressing and dancing takes me back to that wonderful time...LoL! This is right around the same time all the "Valley girl" talk was also a fashion, with polka dot, ruffled mini skirts.... This is exactly the way they danced at the school dances.... Ahhhhhh! LOVE IT!!!
She is sober...if you were as old as I am and watched them live, this ishow she always moved and sang....Sorry, she doesn't 'bust' any moves like wanna be idol singers nowadays.....more dance moves than talent or a singing voice....
Fuckin A, i remember watching them at the Whiskey ago go;s and Troubadour in Hollywood back in the days, damn had a huge crush on Teri Nunn i wonder what she look like now lol...
sometimes I wonder if they compose so well because of drugs, sure that more than one was on coca or heroine... but just smoking joints an artist could be really creative and less auto destructive, in my opinion,
Saw Beerlin live about 3 years ago. Teri Nunn is still gorgious. About a third of the way into the show she tore off her flowing skirt to reveal a tight black mini-skirt. Later she hopped upon the speakers squatted down and flashed the crowd. Turning side to side so everyone could catch a glimpse. I think even the ladies were turned on. I had so much fun dancing on my toes in the 80's.
I saw them in Concert in 83, I was 12 then. I thought I was so cool for going lol. Anyway, awesome concert and performance. I really miss those days. Berlin and Terri Nunn will rock forever in my heart!

I just saw Berlin today at Santa Anita Park They are way better now. Terri Nunn is more at ease when she sings now, and Berlin has way better musicians now. They have a guitarist now, who may look new wave, but can play like he's in a heavy metal band. And I love the way Terri sings and smiles at the same time. She also shows off her pipes, which is almost as impressive as sexy (breast showing) outfit she wears for "Take My Breath Away", and "Sex".
berlin were always great musicians even back to the 1980 album without terri.
they play to the music and aren't trying to be classical music scale after scale virtusos. furthermore I could name 50 punk rock guitarists that are more complex than any metal band fuckcrap.
you can doubt it all you want but Warren from The Vandals would tear any metal dumbfuck a new asshole in guitar playing. The guy is freakishly fast. Same with the Vandals drummer Josh Freese. He's touted as the best drummer in the world. Go look him up. Better than neil peart.
Btw I like rock but blues and metal are faggot shit.

Terri Nunn was almost considered for the role of the princess in Star Wars. She's younger than Carrie so she would have been 16 at the time. There's an edge to her, according to George, and being the first time I've seen this, I agree. He also said she's pretty but just couldn't play sweet and goofy. I wonder if there's audition video of her at that time. Intriguing.

How did we get from Berlin and New Wave to talking about Punk and Metal.
And for the record, guys from the Vandals
and TSOL grew up listening to real Metal
like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest and other hard rock shit. Then they formed
their killer hardcore punk bands, cuz that's
what was new and bitch'n. Then new
metal or thrash bands incorporated that
speed and attitude into their shit. So it
is really just a big circle in the end.

Another you metal tards need to learn is that punk bands did faster paced guitar well before you inbreds.
Discharge, TSOL, etc taught motorhead, metallica and slayer and others what speed was.
Slayer even covered 2 TSOL songs.
Metal is just SAFE major label promoted bullshit garbage and always has been.
