The fireworks were not fake.
They happened, but during the opening ceremony they showed the video of the rehearsal of the OC, because of security reasons.
So, there is still a chance for Paris in 2020.

there were fireworks indeed, but they couldn't be viewed becoz of the bad weather in Beijing, so when tv station broadcasted the openning ceremony, they presented the animation prepared ahead of the ceremony, but there were real foot prints. that's the truth.
