i believe you have to mod the playstation 3 to get that streaming to go right? I dont know for sure. But the video processor in the playstation 3 was one from over 3-4 years ago known as the Nvidia RSX, equivalent to a 7900GTX, unfortunately the soon2be replaced 8800 series by nvidia can nearly double that performance.
The processor can't fill the memory's function. You can't just take away a component and say the processor will do the work instead. The processor is what does all the work for the ram and the buses and so on but it still doesn't have any place where the process can be stored. The only reason ram wouldn't be as necessary on the PS3 is cuz Windows needs a lot more ram than the PS3 OS does. If they port Crysis, expect a lot worse graphics because 256 mb ram and 256 mb vram just won't cut it!
@ oscarstegland: Not with the crappy code Crytek made. 256 MB VRAM is enough for the GPU, my PC has that much and a worse vid card than the PS3, 256 MB is too little though. I'm sure they can optimize memory though. Look at GTA IV, it's huge and possibly more demanding than Crysis (non-graphics wise).
256 mb works, but for a shader- and texture-heavy game like Crysis 1gb is to prefer just for the GPU. The memory requirement includes the OS memory usage so in reality the game itself usually only eats 300-500 mb on computer which is still more than what is offered on consoles. Sure they'll be able to release Crysis on consoles but due to the gfx cards being so old (the memory isn't what's important) they'll only be able to have it in maybe medium graphics and that would still lag.
I know cuz my friend has a 7900GTX which is what the PS3 gfx card is based on. His computer ran Crysis in medium settings at a pretty low resolution with around 30-40 fps.
On the other hand look at Assassin's Creed which is quite possibly bigger than GTA IV and has a hell of a lot better graphics. In Crysis I average around 35 fps with max details, and with Assassin's Creed (which actually has higher minimum requirements than Crysis) I average around 110. CryEngine 2 is just badly optimized.
GTA IV won't be as demanding as crysis non graphics wise either.
Crysis not only has the best graphics, but the best physics engine too, and huge explorable landscapes. Yes GTA has these too but you can't see the whole environment at the same time. In Crysis, just like farcry, you can.
In far cry in the demo level, you could use the sniper to kill most the enemies at the end of the level, before u even started, making the end much easier.

You're missing the point here (i didn't read the post you commented) while computers do indeed outperform the newest consoles the consoles far outclass standard computers. Also you have to look at the price here, the PC setup you've posted is what..equal to the price of 3-4 PS3's if you took 4 PS3's and ran them together (as some research institutions do) you're going to get entirely different numbers. I own both a high end PC and a PS3 because i firmly believe they serve different purposes :)

I'm predominantly a PC user however:
8800gts 512 x 2 = about 700 bucks
quad 6600 = 270
ram, motherboard, power, HDD = about 350-400
comes out to around 1300-1400 bucks. not bad for something that can play crysis very well, but some people don't have that money and consoles are a great investment for cheap graphics. just my opinion

played FOM with siaxis. it sucked! long live the mouse and keyboard for FPS. just my opinion. i had all kind of consoles: snes, ps1x2 ps2x2 and now ps3 and i think for fps nothing beats a mouse and keyboard. for other games the controller is king! try playing motogp 07 on pc. i tried and got tendinitis. back to my ps2 i think... The PS3 is sending the PC signal to the TV.
This is not Crysis on PS3.. but Crysis on PC send to a TV by a PS3 which is compeletely useless because you can hook up your PC to your TV directly!

i believe you have to mod the playstation 3 to get that streaming to go right? I dont know for sure. But the video processor in the playstation 3 was one from over 3-4 years ago known as the Nvidia RSX, equivalent to a 7900GTX, unfortunately the soon2be replaced 8800 series by nvidia can nearly double that performance.

The processor can't fill the memory's function. You can't just take away a component and say the processor will do the work instead. The processor is what does all the work for the ram and the buses and so on but it still doesn't have any place where the process can be stored. The only reason ram wouldn't be as necessary on the PS3 is cuz Windows needs a lot more ram than the PS3 OS does. If they port Crysis, expect a lot worse graphics because 256 mb ram and 256 mb vram just won't cut it!

@ oscarstegland: Not with the crappy code Crytek made. 256 MB VRAM is enough for the GPU, my PC has that much and a worse vid card than the PS3, 256 MB is too little though. I'm sure they can optimize memory though. Look at GTA IV, it's huge and possibly more demanding than Crysis (non-graphics wise).

256 mb works, but for a shader- and texture-heavy game like Crysis 1gb is to prefer just for the GPU. The memory requirement includes the OS memory usage so in reality the game itself usually only eats 300-500 mb on computer which is still more than what is offered on consoles. Sure they'll be able to release Crysis on consoles but due to the gfx cards being so old (the memory isn't what's important) they'll only be able to have it in maybe medium graphics and that would still lag.

I know cuz my friend has a 7900GTX which is what the PS3 gfx card is based on. His computer ran Crysis in medium settings at a pretty low resolution with around 30-40 fps.
On the other hand look at Assassin's Creed which is quite possibly bigger than GTA IV and has a hell of a lot better graphics. In Crysis I average around 35 fps with max details, and with Assassin's Creed (which actually has higher minimum requirements than Crysis) I average around 110. CryEngine 2 is just badly optimized.

GTA IV won't be as demanding as crysis non graphics wise either.
Crysis not only has the best graphics, but the best physics engine too, and huge explorable landscapes. Yes GTA has these too but you can't see the whole environment at the same time. In Crysis, just like farcry, you can.
In far cry in the demo level, you could use the sniper to kill most the enemies at the end of the level, before u even started, making the end much easier.
