The crazy thing is hippie chicks really did stuff like marry dudes just to save them from the draft. What a lousy situation for a college age kid to be in. Fight in a war you didn't believe in, try to get out of it, refuse to go and go to jail, or flee the country.
We need to have another revolution before its too late. The war on Iraq and Afghanistan is wrong. The Brits and US are only killing inncoent civilians not terrorists. Part 7 have to be found.
I cannot say how often we watched this in cinema and after this we listened the record in my room. What a great time the late seventies were. We were young and full of hopes.
It is good to see that a new form for hippie-movement is begin to be a reality, but the problem is that this new-hippie will get modern , and then some real hippies today, wont be hippies at that time, because the hippies is against the modern things, the capitalism, materialism , war, money and profit.
Man...this song has one of the HOTTEST Basslines in the movie...not that all of them aren't hot..but they REALLY got some musicians for this movie. and I love the unorthodox choreography. Man...this movie is truly a classic. The play rocks too.
Yes, Prabupa - the Khrishna founder was quite a guy! 30 years of being a printer in India - mostly commercial stuff. Then he gets religion, becomes unclean by coming to US, & founds a religious printing empire! These days the Khrisna Temples are mainly India immigrant community centers. They still dance & sing though - the young girls quite trained classically in mythic trad. dance. Very beautiful & stylized!
the last i saw Krishna devotees in my town was like 20 years ago!! they like to sell theyre book! The Bagavadgita! theyll hand it to ya all super smiley and friendly, and youll think its a gift! then after youre pleasent chat, you hear. "thats $5.99 please"!
i was definitly born in the wrong era ...if i got the chance to go back in time i would go back to this time, the clothes ,music and principles of this time r just soo fantastic.and the way they dance in this movie shows how united they all r... i rly wish we can all be like this again =]
i am almost thinking with the revival oh Hair in NY it could be done for the Iraq war, gay marriage equality ...but, then i think how times have changes, with more high power jobs, computers, technology and so many people would not be able to give it up for this...i would, but don't know how many people would give up their 500 channel tv's, internet, money, games. if it was like this,,,,they should!
hahaha i love that song LBJ took the IRT Down to 4th Street USA When he got there What did he see? The youth of America on LSD LBJ IRT USA LSD LSD LBJ FBI CIA FBI CIA LSD LBJ
Listen a little more closely to the movie - the lyrics are different than the musical:
LBJ to the IRC
Down to 4th Street USA.
When he got there
What did he see?
Tricky Dick on LSD.
etc...
Which puts the movie at a disadvantage. Nixon had not gotten the moniker of "Tricky Dick" until the Watergate scandal of '72 to '74 (when he resigned stating "I am not a crook"). The musical, and the remake of the movie were to have taken place during the "Summer of Love" 1968.
Hippies represented "peace, flowers, freedom, happiness". However I am Hungarian, I think, I understand the hippy-era in USA, a neighbour of mine came from USA and he was/is a real hippy, like Berger and the others and the things he said were very interesting.
If I had lived in USA in those times, I am sure, I would have been a hippy. I disagree with every kind of war and I see every point of the hippies.
