  • Never trust a referee who wears a hat

  • Like others have said, in the US some recreational leagues ask referees to show coaches the cards if needed to control the game. This is likely one of those leagues. Our competitive leagues do not show cards to coaches as we know this is wrong. @seetah2007 you sound like a prick and @RedCardMagician with a name like that, seriously doubt you're a 4. @DOAKATO please excuse my fellow Americans as I enjoy working with Canadian referees here in the States.

  • @socref79 I don't know much about the game, but the red card means that someone is ejected from the game correct? Why is it wrong to show the coach the cards?

  • FOOTBALL..

americans have no idea of this sport

  • @PeteRfoXunDso That's kind of harsh thing to say. I'm an American and I completely understand this sport . . . both as a fan and as a referee. This game is probably part of a developmental or recreational league that asks coaches to be show yellow/red penalty cards (of course, I completely disagree) its done because of the limited amount of people willing to coach, they want to give them a chance to control their behavior.

  • show all match? coach can`t discuss with referee...only Captain can...

  • coaches can yell at the refs... players can't and parents aren't supposed to.

  • I am a referee. referees have NO authority to show cards to coaches. they CAN remove coaches from the field of play, but there is NOTHING in the laws of soccer about showing cards to coaches. In fact, you do not have the authority to show a coach a card.

  • @DOAKATO If you are a referee, you should know that most of the USSF youth leagues (and in many parts of the world is the same) DO have rules and regulations regarding how to deal with the coaching staff, such as showing a Yellow card as a warning and showing a red card as to "Sent Off". When we are officiating higher level games such as first or second div pro-games we must NOT show cards to the coaching staff, just as indicated in the Laws of the Game.

  • @SanLorenzoAFA No, I wouldn't know that SanLorenzo. I am a referee in Canada. here, all youth leagues obey the laws of the game and have no regulations concerning showing cards to coaches.

  • @DOAKATO You're a shitty ref then

  • @seetah2007 Actually Seetah, I get evaluated every year and get very good results. How about you? How long have you been reffing? Oh wait, given your attitude, I highly doubt you coach, let alone referee, soccer.

  • @RedCardMagician - Wow you sound stupidly pretentious. You really don't need to list your credentials considering that 99.9% of refs from the very top to the young kids in the parks know that cards shouldn't be shown to coaches. But it's super nice to know that the procedure has the full backing and support of such an esteemed and accomplised referee such as yourself.

  • @SavageKnight26 - I dont know if you are a referee yourself, but if you are, that is not the most professional way to express yourself to a National Referee (if indeed he is a grade 4). Showing cards to coaches is a procedure that was discontinued in the Laws of the Game long ago but was still retained in the high school and NCAA interpretation of rules. Some smaller youth leagues have retained the practice as well as a way to keep coaches from getting ejections and eventually quitting. RESPECT

  • Unfortunately, some youth soccer associations and even some states do ask that coaches be cautioned (yellow card) and ejected (red card). I believe the coach should not have a chance to be cautioned. If a coach misbehaves, he goes. So far, I have only had dismiss a coach one time, and I hope I never have to do it again.

  • @Stinger49 i agree with you 100%. As an AYSO National Referee, Advanced Instructor, USSF referee badge level 4, and an OCSOA referee I can completely agree that coaches should not be shown the cards and but should only be ejected. Coaches are to be more responsible than the players and are to set an example as far as behavior. It ruins this image of the coach if they can be treated like a player

  • You never show a red card to a coach... rookie mistake.

  • @fraKKil : indeed thats correct, only players can be shown cards; if a referee believes a coach / spectator is guilty of misconduct they just simply are removed from the esurroundings of the pitch and later reported. good on the ref for having the balls to get rid of the coach but just a small technicality in his actions which in the end could end up with the coach not getting the punishment he deserves

  • @fraKKil I'm sure that referee is not a rookie. A rookie would not usually be working the center in a game, even at the U13 level. Like I have stated before, he probably was following the instructions of the league (or tournament) which requests that coaches be shown a card to notify of caution or removal, thus giving the coach a chance to be cautioned. Which I totally disagree with.
