@swissGZA you're right on the money. This music has changed my life as well and I use to make fun of people who made statements like that. Conor is a genius. I often wonder how many people have experience his music too. I've tried to turn some people on to his music but they just dont get it. Never will. They just don't appreciate good music with actual talent behind it. Hopefully one day I will meet someone who appreciates Conor's music as much as I do.
Every night I ride the bus home and I listen to Bright Eyes I just can't help but wonder how many people waiting at that stop actually have experienced this music. It's so weird to think that some people just don't like it, I feel sorry for them. Fuck, they are missing out on a lot. This band changed my life.
I saw this set, it was jaw dropping, he'd slagged off John Peel the week before at Glastonbury because he was fucked (to his credit he said he couldn't remember playing and had nothing but respect for JP lol) Best set of the weekend tyhen he came on at the end and played 'first day...' on his own...
digital ash, letting off the happiness, and fevers and mirrors are the best. if you don't like letting off the happiness.. there IS something wrong with you.
@FleetFox101 i've had the exact same thought. how the eff? and why can't i? and he never let's his stuff become droll and boring he writes in almost every genre and changes shit up all the time. brilliance
HOW!!! HOW IN THE HELL DOES ONE MAN WRITE SUCH GREAT MUSIC!! CONOR CAN TAKE THE THREE SIMPLEST CHORDS AND TURN THEM INTO SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL.... Does anyone else feel inferior to this man, when it comes to writing? You end up finding yourself comparing your stuff to his and its mind boggling how someone like himself is as competent as he is. Yeah he has been writing a hefty majority of his life, but even listen to his earlier stuff.. it's like how!
Sometime I cry when I see video's like this. Because I know that this Conor (the one that resonated with me) is almost completely gone.
I haven't been able to get into Cassadega and anything of his after that. It's just, (in my own opinion of course! Don't be offended or get upset) it's a little off from what I think to be the Conor I fell in love with.
I personally think all his wrk, with bright eyes, the mystic band, and monsters of folk are all amazing. Cape canaveral is genius. A man named truth. Ear orgasms!
Digital Ash is better than good. One of my favorite. I agree with sunhoney1 and floydthefuckbag this song couldn't have better lyrics. Conor will write better and better as years progress but, this CD proves how versatile Bright Eyes can be. Hope they stay reunited in 2010.
@CymbalRushBand i agree and think its a shame that he has later alowed himself to become trapped the indie folk genre...he really had something with digital ash but he went the wrong way.....(my opinion)
actually mystic valley band has discontinued, well as far as i know. bright eyes has been on hiatus however conor oberst has officially stated that there will be one final album in 2010 which will surely be followed with a final tour.
Wow. I love watching his concerts on here, theyre so intense you just cant stop watching him. I wish i'd listened to Bright Eyes years ago, it would have helped so much and then I could have gone to a show and seen my fave songs live too! Now i'll never be able to :( Oh well. Theres always the MVB so thats something...but I really want to see Bright Eyes sooo much :(
Usually, when someone says so-and-so is a "musical genius", I disagree with them and say, "Okay now, you're overreacting." But you're absolutely right -- and his lyrical talent should not be overlooked either.
Actually, it's pretty rare that Bright Eyes performs the songs with the same arrangements as on the records any more. They change the instruments used for pretty much every tour. Conor has said many times, that he likes 're-interpreting' the songs.
A good example of this is the two different versions of 'Southern State'. One on Home Vol. IV, and the other on Motion Sickness (the live album). So I would change your statement to, actually, "bands with real talent are able to sound completely different to the record, but still sound amazing. And Bright Eyes has real talent."
he does when he has that guitar, it has a long neck so it's hard to hold. you watch him do roosevelt room or any of the cassadaga performances with his sg. hell watch him with desaparecidos he can rock the **** out
great quality vid. but i don't really like the music, it just doesn't feel like conor. probably the substitution of computer for live instruments, and he's singing out of his normal style. :/
