  • Guys criminals cant get away with it you need to ask permission to use a runway we are not in that lame phineas and ferb world

  • I CANT STAND YOU STUPID COMMENTERS SAYING "criminals will get away faster" and "now people will be flying bad instead of driving bad " AND "fly-bys instead of drive-bys" YOU NEED TO BE A LICENSED LIGHT AIRCRAFT PILOT AND HAVE A DRIVERS LICENSE

although it is not a flying car it is as close as we will get in 2011 2012 its called a roadable aircraft and its perfectly legal

  • Comment removed

  • this has been out since 2008???? i just heard about this yesterday

  • What if you run out of gas in the air lol?

    GF MUCH?

  • really, no need for a runway. Just have fans under it push it off the ground then jets in the back make it take off.

  • @RunescapeVideoHQ dude its not as easy as putting fans under it

  • try cross wind landing that thing. LMAO

  • @staywhereurat I wonder what the component is. About 1999, I lost a client flying his own V36 in a crosswind.

  • It's a midget airplane with a automobile steeringwheel. How can you call it a car when it has wings? Is it because they are retractible? There are full size air crafts with that feature plus many smaller ones.

  • @dragonknight31 Its not supposed to be called a "flying car" its a "roadable aircraft" or whatever

  • This would be great....but people are too irresponsible for this

  • 890 pounds is 'heavy'???? What is the interviewer smoking????? (An average regular car is 3-4.5k pounds!!!

  • cool man

  • and the coyotes will buy the rest., a ke pendejoz

  • wtf is wrong with this anchor,.. loose your weight first looser then talk about car's weight

  • I want the flying car they promised us in the 1960s. Cmon. this frumpy lookin thing aint my idea of a flying car.

  • now criminals can get away from cops easier

  • @DACLAWER Dude I'm sure law enforcement is/will be on top of that!

  • @DACLAWER Unless police choppers load up some machine guns and armed crazy skydivers

  • Well it doesn’t take off vertically and I am sure this is not what people dreamed of for decades. I would rather buy a cheap aircraft with foldable wings and just tow it on a trailer with a “real car” I got three words for Terrafugia UGLY, IMPRACTICAL and EXPENSIVE.

  • @4245047 not what people have dreamed of for the last two or three decades, yes. but back in the 40's 50's and 60's this is what the flying car basically looked like in artists renditions and even the one or two that were built. not exactly the same, but material, propulsion and aerodynamic technology has finally allowed one that may be practical to be built. it will probably be another 20-50 years before you get your wingless flying car, if even that soon. look up the Moller flying car.

  • i want to see the stig driving that thing

  • Nice plane, but no offense that's not a flying car, it's a plane with folding wings. Flying cars don't have wings, watch the beginning of the movie 'Fifth Element' those are flying cars.

Don't get me wrong it's cool and all, just not what people expect when they hear "Flying car"

  • U suck dude

  • less talk more flying! Woo!

  • It doesn't qualify as a flying car, it's a car that transforms into a aircraft.

I want to see a real flying car, now that would be impressive. anyone can take a frickn car an put wings on it. hey, is the front of thing suppose to resemble a hammerhead shark?

  • AMAZING!

  • プッシャー式の軽飛行自動車か

Is it a pusher-type light flight car?

  • wow... I guess if this changes future transportation needs, then we dont have to worry about all the car bombing terrorists anymore.... or drive-by shootings..... wow... fly-by's

  • its going to be an airport to airport flight , second people will get used to it if this gets serious and the numbers of flying cars increases , safety and security of passengers will be thought about seriously ,

its only a begining and good luck .

  • Very interesting to notice the folding mechanism was surely developed after the navy fighters way back even to WWII days.

  • god

  • Why would it be dangerous if you had to get a pilot license?

  • this only means i have to transform my backyard into a runway

  • Looks cool and all but i'm not getting one...

  • DONT DRINK and FLY!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, this is the most wonderfull thing I have seen recently. You guys are doing a great job. Keep doing it.

  • USA Army should buy this and send to Afghanistan.American army should test this in Afghanistan mountains. They should put weapon on this vehicle. They do not have chance to blow this vehicle before they shoot they will fly off American will spy on more !!

  • @VOYTASNY ....

  • haha the reporter is like thanxs for creating another deadly weapon to add to the collection...now if a bad driver or drunk driver gets a hold of this one we'll be needing 3 or 4 caskets instead of 2.

  • Twitch at 1:08, wtf....

  • i think this pos has run out of funding

  • If thats a car, then im a small plain.

  • nice! wonder if anyone knows their web page

  • Yea Wisconsin!

  • Imagine drunk drivers in this!

  • The dude with the microphone......give it up bubba!

  • how much doese the car cost ?

  • eysearching for a guy that would treat me well

  • What prudent pilot is going to drive this thing over potholes in upstate New York?

Flying cars always make me laugh.

  • hmm looks more as a aircraft as a car

  • this videos sound quality was horrible but the thing itself is sick!

  • prise is high, no matter, if you have a small plane you have to pay a lot of rent to park on a air port, in this case you can park in your own garage so deduct that saving from the purchasing prise.

  • There was one like that in 60's all ready, where is it now?

  • lol i thought the title said terrifying...wtf is wrong with me. fuckin dyslexia

  • @lujavana

  • its actually around $190k which isn't to bad when you consider the fact that its a plane and a car hopefully the price will go down so people like me can buy it

  • @shaboopie12 Try $279.000.00, that's over a quarter of a million dollars!....So as I said in a previews message, this is NOT for the average person, but those who have more than enough and have no idea or do not know what more to do with their money!

  • @SantosRegal When you comment on YouTube, you have to look at the date of the person's comment your commenting on. shaboopie's comment is 2 years old that makes his comment correct. Inflation+production costs made it go up

  • dum machine in if everyone gets it there will be air traffic theres no way to avoid traffic period

  • @shaboopie12 I doubt this will become a standard vehicle. I don't recall them mentioning a price, but I'm guessing it will be $150k minimum. It won't replace cars, but it has the potential to replace small private planes. The foldable wing design makes it small enough so that it can fit in most ordinary garages, eliminating the need for a separate hangar. And of course you would need a driver's license to drive it on the road and a pilot's license to fly it.

  • Fly it, you SOB, stop wasting my god-damn time!!!

  • no airbag though.

  • maybe they could add some cameras to help with the blid spots

  • the wings create a huge blind spot. should find a way to remove them. still would love to see one on teh road. i wonder if they have done crash tests on one yet.

  • this is by far the coolest airplane designed (and actually built) in history.

  • come on guys this is our first aero car. sure it looks like a plane but what plane can fold up its wings and drive like a car?

  • 3:05 "...you can easily lower the stick out of the way..." but you can't get a bloke to easily move the damn mic out of his face.

  • Finally somebody got a flying car right and is actually in production!

    Kudos

  • Such a funny interview. The repeated mannerisms are great.

  • more like a modified airplane

  • Would be ideal for a drug runner!

  • no cuz u have to come to a complette stop to un fold the wings and it takes about 48 seconds to fold out. i learnd this in aerospace today

  • you guys think you can do any better? you guys complain but that is all it is it is a waste of your time and a waste of mine reading the comments but interesting design nice to see some have the will to make flying cars a reality

  • Terrible Macro Lens

    Terrible Camera Position

    Good interview

  • wow all that work and thats what they come up with

dude just buy a damn plane

  • it a fucken plane not a car its nothing different to the old plane they use in mad max 2

  • LOL @ 2:10

    Reporter: "...have a look inside?"

    Dude: "Allright, sounds good"

    *Dude walks away*

*Reporter holds the mic up, interviewing the air around him*

    Brilliant!!!!!!!!!

The vehicle? Totally crap. One fart from aside and it crashes of the road, waaaay too light to travel above 30mph (on the ground). Epic FAIL.

  • Oh I would prefer a manual locking system on those wings,(catastrophic failure?), The reporter seems to be wise in the subject, but maybe not as he never seems to respond to the tec stuff that Sam is spewing. And Sam needs to dumb down some if he wants to appeal to more folks. I do love this whole concept though! I hate airports & traffic.

  • zeropointprophet wrote, "the reporter looks like a prick."

The reporter is asking good questions. As a pilot who flies his own experimental aircraft, I must say I much prefer this reporter's style to the superficial tripe pumped out by AirVenture's official video team. Yes the reporter appears skeptical, but such skepticism is well-founded. Beyond the "innovations" he asks about (some of which are potential points of catastrophic failure) this contraption has no viable market.

  • who's gonna insure your company?

  • look bulky when driving on the road

  • que panza birrera tiene el periodista jajaj

  • Can't wait to see this in 2011....

our sky is going to turn into a highway... remember star wars revenge f the sith all those flying cars above us lol.............

  • "ohHOkay...ummmmmm".....decent reporter :P

  • Is the reporter working for free? on a sunday?

  • Is the reporter not being paid for this interview?

  • wow the reporter seems real happy

  • With the jackasses on the road now, there is no way I want one of these things flying over my head. People cannot even navigate the roads safely.

  • Well, with that attitude I'd think you'd like it: the bad drivers will be even more likely to crash, thus clearing the gene pool.

There's a grumpy outlook for you.

  • Yeah, you're right! If these hit the market, next thing you know, there'll be "drunk flying" as well as "drunk driving"

  • @gumpydoood ......dude you can only take off and land from public airports. you cant drive directly and too low over roads, you need a flight lisence. you just drive from airport to house/hotel

  • @gumpydoood which is why you would need a pilots license for this.

  • @gumpydoood the FAA only allowed them to take off from certified airports with a runway length of at least 2.5 km.

  • @gumpydoood actually you can only take off and land these at certified aerodromes...and they have to follow standard flight rules, so you wont have to worry about them flying low over the roads.

  • @gumpydoood= I'm glad we're nowhere near having the flying car. Like you said, with those jackasses out there.

  • Aren't these supposed to be coming out next year or are they still in development...I saw something about there supposed to be up for sale next year unless I missed something

  • I love the idea, I just don't love this thing - it looks ridiculous. Still, I don't want to belittle the obvious effort that went into this, I'd just never buy one.

  • I don't undersand why there is stick in this plane. I think that wheel could transform into a yoke.

  • nice plane to die in an accident.

  • That interviewer is kind of a douche bag.

  • yeh too true

  • its basically an aeroplane..

  • excatly

  • i can fly a car without wings ! i done before and i can do it again lol

  • redundancy: repetition of an act needlessly... seriously try using another word lol

  • I strongly disagree, robots SHOULD be allowed to own flying cars in some cases. Has everyone forgotten the 4th adjudication?

  • 1:08 WHAT HELL WITH HIS ARM??

  • hahahaha, that's really funny. An arm spasm or something.

  • hahahahahaahah i didnt notice that

  • Actually, Moller's design uses vertiports--basically helipads--and since it's a VTOL, the landing area required only needs to be slightly larger than the vehicle itself. Extra room is unnecessary because there are no rotor blades, as on a helicopter. In theory, you could likely land an M400 directly in any parking space big enough to fit an H1 Hummer. Because the Terrafugia is a plane, it needs a runway to get off/on the ground. VTOLs make more sense where there are helipads--in most cities.

  • quiet you annoying

  • BOOOO! You Stink!

  • 2011. No they won't sell it. Like electric cars, compressed air cars and everything that promises to change gas passenger car market, this will silently seize all public relations.

  • electric cars, compressed air cars and everything that promises to change gas passenger car market all rely on electricity produced by fossil fuels, so no gain there.

  • Electricity can be clean too.

  • yes,but I fear there simply isn't enough land to satisfy everyone's need for wind turbines. Did you know at least 25% of all electricity ever made is lost in the resistance of the wires?

  • Wind turbines are not the only clean source of electricity and the gas car pollutes more in any case. Trying to keep rejecting non-gas cars is so ignorant.

  • The rejection of non-gas cars is less the fault of the public than the fault of the auto industry. When you consider that nearly every vehicle on the road is so grossly inflated in terms of it's sticker price versus it's ACTUAL build cost, no car company can be or is willing to be the first to offer alternative-fuel cars as it's primary product line. A hard-wired "fiscal responsibility" to their shareholders, and their own pockets, won't allow it. Call that exactly what it is: greed.

  • No, many people use the green argument "alternative cars are not totally pollutionless" to defend using the gas car. That is their fault and they shouldn't argue that alternative energy should be totally clean. It is cleaner than fossils and that's the point in alternative energy

  • People who defend the use of gas cars by arguing alt-fuel cars aren't pollution-less are in a vast minority compared to most green-minded folks. Anyone with an educated eye on the environment knows that even pure-electric cars have some level of pollution, even if it's only electro-magnetic noise or interference like what's given off by any and every computer monitor, cellphone, or television; which is by definition, still a pollutant.

  • It has been argued that the concept of the internal-combustion engine is obsolete; nut the truth is simply that the fuel is out-of-time. If you look up the Moller VTOL, specifically the Skycar M200x, it uses inexpensive, low-emissions Wankel rotary engines much like those that have been available in Mazda's RX series of cars for over 30 years. These engines comply with California's ultra-strict SULEV standard, and burn a mixture of 70% ethanol and 30% water-both of which are renewable.

  • Sorry, typed "nut" meant "but". For those who don't know, an SULEV is a conventional-gas-powered or gas-electric hybrid vehicle designed to produce minimal air pollution at it's point of use, typically 90% less than that of an equivalent ordinary full gasoline vehicle. Wankel's can be turboed to hell and back for those that are performance-hungry, and the M200's engines also meet the standard running full ethanol. Growing our fuel and only producing 10% of current emissions sounds good to me.

  • The fact is, until getting the biggest payday humanly possible after investing as little as possible ceases to be the rule, don't expect change. Technologies exist that are viable, but they are prohibitively expensive and hard to mass-produce. Auto makers can't bear the thought of narrowing their margin: they won't triple or quadruple their per-unit cost but keep the end product at or below the current models' price points--there's no money in it.

  • Although there are parasitic losses due to the construction, material and age of power grids throughout the country, these losses are probably not quite as dramatic as you claim. Also, electric, hydrogen, LPG, and compressed air vehicles do not all rely on fossil-fuel-based electrical sources. A great many power grids are based on hydro-electric, hydro-dynamic, solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, bio-reactor, or combinations of alternative-energy sources.

  • The Canadian province of British Columbia gets its power form Big Hydro power stations. Unlike Alberta which uses Coal.

  • BrutalDeluxe: «Did you know at least 25% of all electricity ever made is lost in the resistance of the wires?»

I call bull. In the US in 1995, power losses in the transmission system were calculated at an average of 7.2%. The linked document from the US government can be found in the Wikipedia article «Electric power transmission». Don't pull numbers out of thin air! That number includes old lines, and can be improved even further by upgrading transmission lines and equipment.

  • I stand corrected. And I feel relieved it's only 7.2%.

  • I would be vary wary of flying with those wings, how

stable can they be? I can see one or both breaking apart under flight stress at those folding joints. It just seems like an insane design, two folding joints on each wing? Or I could see those wings getting stuck down, like you land and you have to drive somewhere but hey, your left wing won't come up!

Or in mid flight, the transmission starts sending power to the wheels..instead of the propeller.

Will wait for null-gravity Jetson's car.

  • Sort of like those wings on the aircraft that land on carriers. Yup, the technology just isn't there.

  • Wow, the flying car...I think the minimum requirement for driving one should be a pilot's license and instrument rating....The thought of the masses flying an aircraft, talking on their cellphones, putting on makeup, yelling at their kids, while cruising at 3,000ft, scares the hell out of me...

  • Right.. think of a flying car full of crazy teenagers or hicks & kids, diving into your house, screaming. If it breaks down under the worst loss of power conditions it doesn't roll to a stop off a road.. This little turkey falls to a stop, out of the sky. Onto your house. Crashing through the roof, terrified shrieks, gas tank explodes; two broken legs, being roasted alive pinned underneath while some fat mom and her nine kid's corpses gaping through the windshield, bleeding all over you...

  • Why would you think that if it had an engine failure it would fall out of the sky? It has canards that keep it from stalling, so lower the nose, keep the airspeed where it needs to be and conduct a forced approach. Be realistic, this is cutting edge technology.

  • i will buy one of 'em

  • Comment removed

  • its 200k

  • AWESOME!

  • mama can i have a flying car please!?

  • ok ! folfs .what do i need to use this. a driver license or a private pilot license?

in case of crash ,would i face the ntsb or the hightway patrol ?

  • lol, you'd need a sport pilots license. As far as the crash goes...don't worry about it. You probably wouldn't live, so it would be someone elses problem! =D

  • I was waiting for something looking like a car, not a plane. How can you drive this on a road if you are not alone on it?

  • i imaged flying cars like the ones on back to the future lol

  • Not a bad concept but you definately don't want to get in a road traffic accident...or fender bender...could be a real expensive repair bill!! AND if you have a fender bender on the ground do the NTSB still get involved?

  • Hey dummies...this isn't a car. Its a small airplane.

  • how awsome would it be to show up at work or school cruise in on 1 of these babys

  • I prefer if inventor develop a flying car from a helicopter, so that it could fly up in a shorter distance and also landing in a shorter distance.

  • BINGO!!!

But a helicopter is a lot harder to control.

  • Even know a helicopter is harder to control, but once u get used to it, it would be ok :P we just try to compare when the first time we driving and after 1 month...

  • nothing special and futuristic, just a small plane that can park at your home. gov't probably won't allow it to fly above normal streets, probably just within a certain zone, and the only difference is that u will be able to take it home and park inside ur garage.

  • oh my god.... i knew some day this was gonna happen.

  • vr troopers... LMAO !!!! LOL !!!

  • Not bad, but what is the maximum flight time, and altitude? if the results are available yet

  • It's said it can fly 650 km with a full fuel tank ;)

About the altitude, I'd say it's like those little planes :)

  • Looks like another toy for the rich and famous! try to make a marketable (aircar) for under 50k that meets F.A.A. standards.

    Hopefully in another 25 years.

  • My guess is this thing will follow the same path the newer luxury Hummers took: So expensive that like you said, nobody but the rich and famous can afford it. But before long smaller companies will create more affordable versions (the Toyota FJ Cruiser).

  • "Roads? Where we're going.... you don't need Roads!"

    -Dr. Emmit L. Brown

  • AMEN.

  • hahah, Classic film.

I may get the Flux Capicitor on this thing too. Why limit yourself to 2015, when you can go anywhere in time?

  • Are you telling me... that this SUCKER is Nuclear!?!

" NO nO no No no... this sucker's electrical. But I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1 point 21 gigawatts of electricity I need."

    -Dr. Emit L. Brown

  • If regular road going cars were made out of plastics and/or composites, they would be much lighter, more fuel efficient and safer. Maybe this vehicle will influence the design of future cars.

  • No way. Improved efficiency and durability is not a true target of the automobile industry, as this would lead to less profits. What they want is an illusion of efficiency.

  • not a flying car. Its a road going aeroplane!

  • lol and so.... it Begins!

    Skycar, parachute car, and terrafugia.

Who will be the FIRST to mass produce an affordable flying car? We'll find out by 2015 . :)

Finally, something cool to look forward to. :D

  • i dont want idiots in the air . Time for machine guns to take them out .

  • That's an intelligent comment (not). You still must hold at least a sport pilot license to fly the Transition, so it's not like a bunch of yahoos are going to be flying these things with no training. Also, shooting at an aircraft is a FEDERAL offense, not to mention undeniable proof of one's redneck status.

  • it didn't take off!

  • Primitive Transformer.

  • lame.

  • lol thats a perfect way to get away from the cops XDDDDDDD

  • haha!

  • lmaoo so true dude XD
