But if we should adopt a symbol, the best one would be the empty tomb: He is risen! His resurrection is evidence of the spiritual rebirth and life we gain through Him by faith.

@cool6950 Wow, well now that you're 12 years and 5 days old, you're old enough to learn that Jesus totally wasn't born December 25th, he was probably born in the fall. It's just that a few hundred years after Christ died, the biggest holiday in the world was the winter solstice (about Dec 21st) celebrated by all religions (largely pagans, monotheists, etc.). Christianity needed something to compete, hence Christmas.

@Diana2die4 Passion of the Christ and The Nativity Story. I only saw the latter cause I was too young to see Passion when it first came out in theaters. This is still a good song though. We play this at my church every Christmas and Easter and sometimes in-between cause its so true.

I really don't like the refrain of this song. We celebrate the birth of the Christ at Christmas, not the death of Christ. I say this because, if original sin never happened, it means that Christ would never have had to die. However, Christ would still have been incarnate at some point. When that would happen, we would still be celebrating Christmas, but Christ would have have had to die.

The reason we celebrate and rejoice on Christmas is because Jesus was born so he could die on the cross, and he also rose concurring death. This was God's Gift of grace. His birth was only the beginning, only part of it. We celebrate on Christmas as Christ coming to earth as a baby, so he would become a sacrifice for us, and concurring death, and ascending back into heaven. I think you need to be careful when you say Christianity is based on paganism. Christianity, in its very definition, is based on following the teachings of Christ. Though I do not think denominations are of His design, I don't believe Christianity is a pagan religion. Now many people who claim the title "Christian" are probably pagan because they do not follow the teachings of Jesus. Beware what you say, however, when calling the practice of following Jesus, Paganism. That is not true.

You should maybe consider the context of the passage you quoted. He was speaking to a Samaritan woman when he said, "Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you [Jews] say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship. Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews."

"Christ" means "anointed one" or "messiah." Though his given name was Jesus, the Bible calls him Christ Jesus, like it's a title, as in "Mother Theresa." It also calls him Jesus Christ, like it's a surname, as in Smith, Miller, Shepherd, Baker, etc, Or, maybe it's clearest when we say Jesus the Christ, like Jimmy the Greek? ;-)

@cool6950 Wow, well now that you're 12 years and 5 days old, you're old enough to learn that Jesus totally wasn't born December 25th, he was probably born in the fall. It's just that a few hundred years after Christ died, the biggest holiday in the world was the winter solstice (about Dec 21st) celebrated by all religions (largely pagans, monotheists, etc.). Christianity needed something to compete, hence Christmas.

When we celebrate His coming, we also celebrate his atonement, and look forward to His second coming when He will take us Home. I really don't like the refrain of this song. We celebrate the birth of the Christ at Christmas, not the death of Christ. I say this because, if original sin never happened, it means that Christ would never have had to die. However, Christ would still have been incarnate at some point. When that would happen, we would still be celebrating Christmas, but Christ would have have had to die.

The reason we celebrate and rejoice on Christmas is because Jesus was born so he could die on the cross, and he also rose concurring death. This was God's Gift of grace. @Teemercyr Christ didn't come to earth just to be here. He was born so that he would be the pure lamb, to be sacrificed for us, and to rise again concurring death. His birth was only the beginning, only part of it. We celebrate on Christmas as Christ coming to earth as a baby, so he would become a sacrifice for us, and concurring death, and ascending back into heaven. That is why we celebrate Christmas and that is what this song is saying.

The virgin birth of Christ, His death on the Cross and His Resurrection. The death of Christ on the cross is not sad or a tragedy. It is a triumph.

If you believe in Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God, who died and rose again, you are part of the body of Christ. Jesus didn't come to earth so we could go to church and sit in a pew, He came so we could bring His kingdom to the world. The only way to God the Father, is through Jesus the son. It was not a human sacrifice as nothing human is sinless as our Savior is.
He humbled Himself and took on flesh in order to save us all.
BTW we have the free will to choose and are not blindly led. Once you see your need for a Savior you cannot reject the free gift of salvation

I think you need to be careful when you say Christianity is based on paganism. Christianity, in its very definition, is based on following the teachings of Christ. Though I do not think denominations are of His design, I don't believe Christianity is a pagan religion. Now many people who claim the title "Christian" are probably pagan because they do not follow the teachings of Jesus. Beware what you say, however, when calling the practice of following Jesus, Paganism. That is not true.

He was speaking to a Samaritan woman when he said, "Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you [Jews] say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship. "Christ" means "anointed one" or "messiah." Though his given name was Jesus, the Bible calls him Christ Jesus, like it's a title, as in "Mother Theresa." It also calls him Jesus Christ, like it's a surname, as in Smith, Miller, Shepherd, Baker, etc, Or, maybe it's clearest when we say Jesus the Christ, like Jimmy the Greek? ;-)
