Had my xbox 3/4 years without a problem now :) got a ps3 for free a few months ago it had the yellow light of death but I managed to fix that :P found this vid searching forvids about swapping ps3 thumb sticks to the xbox prefer them now!!
I have fixed a few. I just wrap the 360 with a towel or blanket and let it sit on the red rings for like 6 hrs. It heats itself up and its kinda the same fix.

MS dont give a crap...I think the reason for the high fail rate of 1st gen of XBOX360 consoles is that MS rushed to launce the prouct on christmas 2005
and they were in such a hurry they lunched the product with many hardware design flaws (cooling system in particular) so 90% of ppl who bought the first XBs got RROD at some point -yours was about 2-2.5 year old xb when it died? youre one of the lucky ones
but it's understandable since the elite version was always better and more resilient then the other versions that came out back then. i think it's due to better cooling system. it realy sucked when i first got RROD on my box

@GamerKing112 i know bud i junked the x clamps and added just screws . I also cut out a piece of the side to add a external fan to blow cool air on the heat sink. So farr no problems yet. But when i had it open i seen they cpu and gpu are glued on with loose xclamps . Microsoft lost a customer because if it ever breaks down im not buying another one again . Even the new xbox slims have x clamps . Trust me bud they know the xclamps dont work but they make it that way on purpose so u can buy more

I came home turned on my xbox and BAM RROD. i was like.... WTF!!! upon investigation i find my harddrive was not connected because my brother took it off to put on his to play on my Gamertag and get me reported.. Turned off the system and connected the HD and it worked.. I was happy..
It was not the Xclamps that caused it, it was the solder that they used. And you cant really blame it on microsoft as the US have mandated all "toys" to be 100% lead free, so they had to use lead free solder.
Granted their Xclamps added to the problem, it is not the root cause.

I hate Microsoft i fix my xbox but i dont trust it to last more than 3 months. We invested too much on games and accessories, xbox live that it would be a waste to just not get an xbox. If you have an xbox made before 2009 you will get a red ring. Even tho it can be fixed I don't trust it.
The X-Clamps are NOT the problem! This is a HUGE internet myth. It is the black screws causing uneven pressure. Combined with poor cooling this causes stress on the BGA solder and eventually fails. To prevent ANY 360 from ever failing throw away black screws and make sure X-clamps have enough room to do their job, they will provide balanced pressure if they are not pressing on the metal case. Then look up the 12V fan speed and shroud mods - your 360 will now run cooler and outlast a PS3.
one time i had some people over and i was going to have an xbox party i had 3 xboxes at my house and they were all hooked up to t.v.s and my xbox got the red ring but the next day it like fixed it self and is was weird

i got an xbox in early 06 and sold it later that year. then i bought another brand new one in march this year. it got the 3 red rings in the beginning of june so i also started freaking out and getting pissed lol. i looked around on the internet and found the xclamp fix so i did it and it works now and now i'm repairing them as an actual job and modding controllers and what not lol but yeah microsoft is a bunch of shit, they sell shitty consoles because they know people will continue to buy them

after 4 months (got it in christmas of 09) my eliete gave me a rrod. 2 months later, another one. lmfao at the fact that most ppl's 360s last a couple years and mine only lasted a matter of months. (very) well ventilated, rarely ever used it, and still 2 red rings. lol.

I hate Microsoft i fix my xbox but i dont trust it to last more than 3 months. We invested too much on games and accessories, xbox live that it would be a waste to just not get an xbox. If you have an xbox made before 2009 you will get a red ring. Even tho it can be fixed I don't trust it.

The X-Clamps are NOT the problem! This is a HUGE internet myth. It is the black screws causing uneven pressure. Combined with poor cooling this causes stress on the BGA solder and eventually fails. To prevent ANY 360 from ever failing throw away black screws and make sure X-clamps have enough room to do their job, they will provide balanced pressure if they are not pressing on the metal case. Then look up the 12V fan speed and shroud mods - your 360 will now run cooler and outlast a PS3.

I bought mine on launch day in 2005 and it just red ringed. The towel fix seemed to have worked for now though. It actually red ringed back in the end of 2007 but I restarted it and haven't had a problem since.... Until today...
