  • Ricordo che era la sigla dei programmi per l'estero, del notturno italiano di radio RAI.

  • This song reminds me of Strange Brew... Like when the hockey players are playing. xD

  • que buen tema no me canso de oirlo ... viva elp loco ..

  • I heard this when Channel 7 Australia did sports broadcasts and used it to open and close such broadcasts.

  • @darkangel2347 This was the New York Islanders TV intro in the early 80's.

  • whenever i hear the start of this i always think something epic is going to happen.

  • QUE TEMAZO!!! ESTE TEMA FUE USADO EN VENEZUELA PARA LA ENTRADA DE VIDEORODVEN PARA SUS PELICULAS. QUE RECUERDOS, T_T

  • Best prog shuffle ever!

  • Good to see musical debating is still alive. Yes indeed, written by Aaron Copeland, many decades ago, and both versions are still played to this day. The testimony of REAL music.

  • @dcarroll74 Copland, not Copeland, many confuse his last name because of Stewart Copeland.

  • Today's music is a joke. This music is proof.

  • gativideo

  • channel 7 footy used this as an intro song from 1990-1992

  • I like their other cover of Aaron Copeland's Hoedown. I like it better then this one

  • ¡Pero que buenos eras los jodios!! The fucking boss

  • I was a kid when they used this opening theme in the beginning of the

Olympics I think or I may be wrong. Someone please informed me. radard64

  • 123Thisis me - the long version is on Works - and I agree with Peter I prefer the short version

And its played before every heat at Glasgow Speedway every Sunday :-)

  • i love this song

  • Ha ...I never even heard the looong version .. this is the only version I know

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how bout a little fanfare for the common soldier

  • Uh... ELP's compositions? This is Aaron Copland's tune adapted by ELP along with Hoedown, another Copland song. It wasn't stolen. ELP gave proper credit.

  • May I recxommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • I know what you mean, I like the short version a lot better--it's just right.

  • ESTO ES DEPOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTV

  • @SuperGarcia52 Jajajajaa lo mismo pensè.. Que època.. (:

  • This used to be played at Morning Assembly for anyone of Chater JMI School Watford in the late seventies.

  • super kool excelent

  • Legendary Long Eaton stock car music............

  • leeds leeds leeds

  • I prefer the orginal version by Aron Copeland.

  • @jumpingjimmyaz if your going to hate you should probably spell Aaron correctly

  • Please..... Aaron Copland. This is the correct name!

  • @humbertocljr we all know that it's not written by emerson, lake & palmer. we're elp fans. we know when our favourite band covers something

  • I think North Allegheny high school played this song for their halftime show.

  • I used this music as background to an anthropology film I made in college that traveled from the very beginning of Sunset Blvd near Alvarado Street all the way to sunset at the beach. What an extreme slice of life... and the music was perfect!

  • May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this fine instrumental.

  • I first heard this at my brothers grammar school open day. They were playing it from the common room over some big speakers. Stayed with me ever since!

  • "And tonight on Grandstand, the 3:45 at Aintree, followed by highlights of the San Marino Grand Prix before coverage of the women's 100 metres at Crystal Palace."

  • ALTRINCHAM F.C!

  • Aaron Copland, not Aaron Copeland.

  • Ajax is using this when the players are coming at the pitch.

    AFCA!!!***

  • To answer Xanofar, this IS a shortened version of the full track. This version appeared on the Greatest Hits album (and I'm sure on most radio stations).

  • Why is this version so short, and the Amazon.com MP3 versions so long?

  • @Xanofar ..2 versions maybe? A radio edit and an original lol

  • timeless.

  • I am so trying to find the original keith emerson solo for this. I have the vinyl but not found the video anywhere which is a shame. I love the solo but not everyone does I guess

  • the song aint the same without the 5 minute keyboard solo. somebody please give me a link to the official version of this song

  • Deportv...

  • Yeah Copeland wrote this before forming 'The Police' with Sting and Andy Summers....

  • @ahpollyolly Wrong copeland. Aaron Copeland, not Stuart. Same guy who composed Hoedown and a bunch of other Americana of the mid 20th century.

  • @videotater . My post was a bit of fun... Apologies if it seemed a bit too convincing and maybe a tad patronising... Didn't mean to 'get ya' my friend.

  • Assim começavam as transmissões da Corrida de São Silvestre na Rede Globo nos anos 80.Muito melhor q as insossas musiquinhas de hj.

  • I too prefer the shorter version, brings back memories, thanks for posting this.

  • Do anyone know if Copeland made any money off this record?

  • ELP didn't compose this. Aaron Copeland composed it in 1942

  • Its actually quite a heavy song at times - in a good way.

  • they play the trumpet intro over the tannoy at the perry barr greyhound races before each race as the dogs come parading out. it makes you expect the dogs to be walking on their back legs carrying a shield and sword like gladiators :-)

  • PHIL TAYLOR !!!!

  • Do you have the longer version of this composition? It is on ELP's 'Works' LP. I have looked for it on You Tube, but as yet, I have not found it.

  • Sorry... Great quality on the music. But when it was over, I felt as though I was missing something...

  • Brilliant - it's in my will as the song my coffin comes in to!!

  • @bazzerukable When I heard this I thought the same thing!!! Seeing I wanna be cremated, I have a list of songs that I want played if they want to have a wake for me, this one for sure on my list!!

  • It's 11 o clock & time for.... WXYZ channel 7 news, with Bill Bonds... John Kelly.... Al Ackermen with Sports..... And Marilyn Turner with Weather... And now with the news, here's Bill & John...

  • bring back the CBS sports spectacular !!

  • @MrHydrogoon Correction. This song is *the fucking shit.

  • @kwbassman nah mate it's a load of old prog bollocks, play this shit to a girl and you'll be single in no time.

  • @MrHydrogoon It's wrong to play music for the satisfaction of someone other than yourself. You'd really let women dictate the kind of music you play around them? are you that pussy whipped?

  • timeless classic!

  • the first time i remember this was in a porn movie

  • I agree on the short version being better. Some of Emerson's improvisations on the long version don't really fit the mood of the composition.

  • Yes, I can recall this as a theme to sports shows in the seventies as well as other songs or instrumentals being to sports shows...Especiallly the song " Shaft " by Isaac Hayes was to channel 7's big leauge show hosted by rex mossop...but Fanfare is just one more brilliant piece of work from ELP...thier music was exceptional...and is timeless..like all great music.....Thanks for posting.

  • @leotimpano Yeah I can remember when this was used as the intro to Channel 7 (Aust) motorsport programmmes in the 70 and I think early 80's as well. It seem to go well with the motorsport footage.....

  • @jaasmac

In Mexico it was used as the the intro for a sports program too.

Casn't help but remember " Esto es DeporTV" (this DeporTV" ) every time I hear it!

  • @jaasmac are you talking about the city of Buffalo Channel 7?

  • @quincee33 Yeah TOM JOLLS, this was on the channel 7 quincee.

  • @Saltheman139 ya i totally remember. i'm from toronto but we get buffalo news ...... and Sabres hockey on old channel 29 WUTV ........ What telecast had the Sabres commercials? back when gilbert perreault and ron edwards was the goalie..... good teams back then......lindy ruff, rick shoenfeld....

  • @quincee33 No, ATN 7 Sydney Australia. They used it to introduce the motorsport programmes in the 70's and occasionally through the 80's.

  • Comment removed

  • @jaasmac Your right enough there mate I remember it being used as the theme tune for the 1976 olympics.

  • @jaasmac They also used this on Abc's Wild world of sports..The agony of defeat..,Then you see a guy almost killing himself long ski jumping.Peaceout

  • @leotimpano ...um, they didn't write fanfare for the common man, aaron copland did

  • GATIVIDEO

  • Any Australians relate this straight back to the good old days of Channel 7 sport?

  • @hoever06 hehe funny you should ask that mate :) i'm not Australian but used to live in Queensland from 80-83. i have been looking for this song for AGESSSSSSS. i remember it used to be the theme to a show about boats that used to be on on Saturday mornings. Or maybe it was the sports prog you are on about. anyway, fond fond memories :)

  • What would sports highlights be without bands like ELP?

  • that end-ing riff is PHATTTT.

  • I love listening to this with headphones on :)

  • I am totally agree with you....its worthwhile to listen to this song using the headphones...

  • reminds me of my dad and santa pod

wish i had him back i miss him so

  • @julielarman189 I'm sorry.

  • I'm with you, PeterRhydon. I, too, prefer this shorter version, minus all the stuff in the middle.

  • GENIUS !!!!

  • Absolutely...it's just sheer class as the single version

  • Me too, love the single version!
