If the show has lost anything over the years, it is the instances of genuine humour and heartwarming morals of friendship that it used to teach. It actually gave me goosebumps seeing this episode again after all these years and seeing Pikachu wrapped up warm in Ash's jacket.

In many ways, the show has come on in leaps and bounds such as the writing of battles and actual character development, but it certainly feels like some of its soul has been lost over the years.
