Killenwolf descended from humans but that doesn't mean he is still human. Hes something called a stupid child and classified as Homo thinks-he-knows-it-all
Killenwolf:What's the basis for your claim? Scientific studies indicate that dingoes are the product of a small population of white-footed Asian wolves / peninsular Indian wolves (Canis lupus pallipes / Canis Indica) that migrated to the Australian mainland and adapted to its environment. There are many different wolf species across the world which you may not be aware of,leading you to believe that only something looking like the common gray wolf (Canis lupus) can be appropriately called a wolf.
Torern92: No, you don't. They would be mostly only trouble for you. These are captive wild animals that require special facilities and care. Regardless of what they may look like, they are NOT domestic dogs, and do NOT "make good pets".
I didn't realize that they were Canis lupis off shoot. Where would the closest "wolves" be to Australia? Are there any in New Zealand? I know there are wild dogs in Africa and jackels etc. I always thought the Dingo was in the dog family.
The Indian wolf, Canis lupus pallipes, of which dingoes are most likely the direct descendants according to skull morphology studies. Their skulls are actually nearly identical. No wolves in New Zealand.
Interestingly recent mtDNA studies of Indian wolves have led to some scientists splitting them into two separate wolf species, Canis himalayensis & Canis indica, due to their long isolation from other wolves. Dingoes may soon be reclassified as a subspecies of one of those.
I'm frequently asked by viewers whether I keep these dingoes as "pets", so here's my answer:
No, they live at a sanctuary owned by friends. We campaign for the protection of dingoes because the Australian government is actively engaged in driving them to extinction. I regularly visit the sanctuary to do volunteer work or study the dingoes and enjoy their company.
EmdrGreg: I've addressed part of this in my previous comment. Read it. It's not impossible, but very difficult to provide good care for a dingo. You'd need to be a very dedicated and intelligent person that's well familiar with the needs and tendencies of the species.
GuitarTechie: No, you probably don't. These dingoes are bred for the purpose of conservation. They are wild wolves with special needs; not just some domestic dog breed. Most people find that they don't "make good pets". Most people simply can't give them all the care they require or tolerate them. Dingoes are extremely intelligent, need a lot of physical and mental stimulation, and are talented escape artists. Caring for a dingo is a huge reponsibility that should not be taken lightly.

i wasn't refering to domestic dogs
Killenwolf 3 years ago
Killenwolf: Then what are you referring to? All other wild dogs share common ancestry with wolves, rather than having descended from wolves.
I suggest you do some more studying on the topic before making grand, arrogant statements about the extent of your knowledge on canids.
nikicd 3 years ago
all dogs are desended from woles that doesn't mean they are still wolves
i happen to know a great deal about canids

Killenwolf: By "dogs", you must be referring to domestic dogs. What's your basis for assuming that dingoes are domestic dogs?

They are handsome pups-- but I believe I've heard they are difficult if not impossible to train and keep as pets. Anyone know if this is true?
