my favorite dust explosion is to take a tin can, fill it 2/3 of the way with charge. (I perfer RDX with HMTD) The top 1/3 I fill with aluminum powder (bronzing) Then I take a 5 lbs. bag of flour and tape it to the top of the can. Set it off, primary explosive scatters dust, aluminum catches and burns, then flour cloud ignites and you get a nice fireball. We set one off in my old tool shed that needed taken down once and it was insane. Blew door off hinges. We thought it would just fling it open

A small firecracker surrounded by a few ounces of the charcoal/naphthalene wrapped in wax paper.

It does not particularly matter. I mill leftover coals from my fireplace for uses as crude as this.

They are different but they should both work.

i wouldnt use pyrodex for shells i used it once and barely got any lift black powder works better and costs less

Look up my video 'DIY Explosion FX' They are made similarly to those, only the black powder is suspended in the center of a ball of charcoal, not simply underneath.

I just can't understend why that charcoal explodes...did you use a detonator or a blasting cap? and if you use just a small amount of kno3 from were it takes oxigen for the blast?...pls reply. nice vid btw5 stars:)

The fine particles spread in the air and burn fast enough to be recognized as an explosion. The kno3 is not necessary but the slight boost in oxygen gives a better result. Most of the oxygen for the blast comes from the surroundings.

Not a detonator such as would be used for high explosives, but a powerful flash powder firecracker.

Ah, well about anything that burns can explode in a powdered form if it's suspended in the air. The most common being coffee creamer and sometimes flour.

Please take the time to spell and punctuate properly. Sawdust won't explode like that because it isn't nearly as flammable or light as charcoal. It will explode under the right conditions, however it would need to be fine enough to stay suspended in the air.

I used a core of 1.5g kno3/s/al flash and approximately 50g of charcoal for each one. + ~5g of naphthalene for the last two.
