This guy seems to be too busy trying to recite techniques rather than principles. No need to roll on the free arm side for one. The only effect would be to try and fake out a blue belt or something. A key principle in jiu jitsu at it's core is the path of least work to the maximum effect. Least work would be to roll on the shoulder with no base. Maybe a little explanation of kuzushi on the off balancing to the side rather than the back is also warrented but neglected in this video.
I don't see why you would try and sweep where someone has a free post, although he's right, if they post out you can just use the stick shift and the sweep can work anyway.
This guy is probably way better than me, but he's making a couple of mistakes at least in terminology. The cocoon isn't an overhook and a collar tie, its an overhook and an underhook on the other side. The Jean Jaques sweep accordingly, relies on swimming in with the underhook and gaining tricep control to prevent posting out as other people on here have pointed out. The stick shift is if the arm come free from tricep control, and can work if they post out in any scenario.
probably the gayest BF sweep i've seen If he is a 10th planet Brown Belt, I'd be questioning the dude who gave me the belt. Underhook, overhook (although, not even an over hook), why the hell would you sweep the way she has a free hand? And then correct it for the sake of correcting it and sweeping the correct way or taking the free hand away when you've lost all your momentum and the are fully based. rubbish
@natertader13 Because when that free arm posts (leaving the opponents neck open), the overhook on the opposite side provides the control to go straight to a triangle.
just because they are simple doesnt make them awkward. you can ask any black belt and 99% of them use white to blue belt techniques with a few advanced techniques when grappling.
well a couple things are wrong with this one you NEVER want to go flat to your back really any time especially butterfly guard because both of your feet are trapped and you cant use them as your primary hooks to defend against a pass. second you would want to fall to the side of the arm that is trapped because you have already taken the base away from that side.
@shadowcar88 10th planet jiu-jitsu has alot of eye candy meaning they look cool but the likely hood of pulling them off in a match, on the street, or in a competition are very slim. im not saying they dont work its just they all have alot of steps making them harder to pull off. the less steps in a technique the greater possibility of success.
@shadowcar88 awkward? who says there awkward? just beacuse they are simple makes them awkward? you obviuosly have alot of learning and growing to do. you can ask black belts and 95% of them use white to blue belt techniques everyday when grappling.
I know :) but I personally wan't to learn anything that will make me better. I wan't my move set to be extremely unique. but I will never underestimate any technique everrrr :D
@MMAandBJJ The way 10th planet works is that it has a handful of "major" pathways (e.g- half guard to whip up to old school sweep) that usually work , and if your opponent counters them in one way, 10th planet has about 4 other "minor" paths that can also lead into a favorable position (e.g- half guard to whip up, *opponent posts leg out to avoid old school*, transition to electric chair submission/sweep or stoner control). It may seem overly flashy, but it is very effective once understood.
@MMAandBJJ the crazy shit is there for when the normal shit ain't working. It's not like you put on a 10th Planet shirt hit the bong and never do a scissor sweep from regular full guard again homie. We mix and match you'd be suprised how often the really ridiculous stuff works when you throw it at your opponent while he's focusing on something more traditional he's drilled 100 times. Granted you probably won't catch him that easy again but now he's got one more thing to worry about. Evolution.
My coach has shown me this sweep but sets it up from sit guard and uses the underhook instead of the over hook. With this Variation how do you prevent your opponent who has the underhook from just siting back and drive forward to just flatten you out?
@Styxorcist I believe he does it because it puts the knee to the ground that you would push down to pass. If he were to fall directly to the hooked arm side then she could easily push and pass. The misdirection is in the chain when the momentum doesn't give her the chance to push the knee down. Just my take on it.
@InvisibleKnives I mean, I've asked a few of my training partners. It's natural for me to feel I'm in serious danger of being swept on my overhooked side. I get jittery and do crazy things when I'm in that position. I fight like hell not to get swept. Just that frame of mind alone would get me caught with this technique.
Also, the reasoning for the side he goes to in the sweep is in the Mastering the Rubber Guard book. Pick it up for some solid and different ground techs.

why would you not try to sweep her to the side you already have overhooked? why complicate things by goin to the side where she has a free arm..

the thing I like about 10th planet is that it has some pretty tricky moves. I wanna train a bit of it :)

why wouldnt you just fall to the other side since her arm is over hooked

That's the side anyone half decent would expect you to go to. It's more for misdirection.
