  • WHAT HAPPENED to being oringinal like grace! lady ca ca and all you others should take the money and run ,out of town!!

  • This video has been ripped from the State of Grace VHS.

  • GENIALE

  • Fuck that Lady Gaga!! THIS was the real shit! :-D

  • I LOVE IT

  • this video is fucking badass. Still looks mega cool and creative!

  • " Sill as Beautiful and as Sexy as ever: Miss Grace Jones, nice, nice, nice "...

  • Grace where are you? Didn't hear from you for a long time...

  • Adooro Grace Jones!!!

  • I mean.this gave me nightmares for like...YEARS!!!

  • the WTFness is hittin the ceiling yall.

  • This is the original Music Clip?

  • Did New Order get inspiration for their videos from this?

  • this is not the video clip of the song but differents commercial works of jean paul goude !!! (jones husband in 80's)

  • what i like about electronic music, is that there is no more inside band musical fights anymore. mostly one guy sets the song, and thats it, so the music keeps on flowing without end. ever evolving, faster and better as rock

  • saw a citroen on the road last week and thought about this song

  • classic ! x

  • 80's were only 30yrs from 50's and so many interesting innovative shit in music & fashion had happen. I did not see much interesting breakthrough shit since 1994 till now. Stuff just rotting away more & more.

  • copycats do everything from the cure to rolling stones, why won,t they dare try grace jones ?

  • someone should do a literal version of this song :P

  • Isn't this song actually Ladies and Gentleman; Miss Grace Jones ?

  • omg i loveeeee her! she's so unique! her music, videos, look, she's a real fashion diva

  • first saw this video on Night flight, late 1980s.

  • Comment removed

  • I always figured the bulk of non-Grace clips in this video were taken from French TV commercials or something. It still seems that way. Cool clip and song though.

  • @BCoriginal1 Gaga in her wildest dreams could never hope to be a product of Grace Jone's womb.

  • That heifer crazy as hell, but in a cool way! Love this joint!

  • :)

  • By all accounts THE most expensive production ever undertaken by Trevor horn it cost over 100k just to get the sound of the Hi hat.

  • If Lady Gaga was born this was, then Grace Jones gave birth to her.

  • @BCoriginal1

    I completely and wholeheartedly agree!!

  • I don't know if I like this song because of the video or the video because of the song---Oh Well I guess I'll just enjoy--

  • Thumbs up for the Lovejoy intro.

  • A truly unique artist. This is one of her best songs!! She is a beautiful woman!

  • Who is the narrator in the intro of this clip? Sean Bean? Stephen Fry? ;)

  • @kevinhaast Ian McShane.

  • this woman rocked huge in her day

  • @rastagal1234 And she was one BAD ASS WOMAN!! lOVE HER!!

  • there was a 45vynil with 6 or 7 mixes of the same song. poeple used to listen all versions all day long and get crazy. they were very different from each other and these days nobody remembers but this one version. i cant seem to find these special versions ever again. nor does anyone of u remember aswell

  • @333Chrome - You are thinking of the Album 'Slave to The Rhythm' which although the tracks are called The frog & The Princess etc, they are all variations of Slave To The Rhythm. The album should still be readily available.

  • Such an excellent album!

  • Often imitated-never equalled.

  • This makes no sense...but it's so awesome!

  • When she performs his live she hula-hoops through the entire track. Incredible!

  • @moahmedish No prob, his is is a interesting artist. There is a documentary about him on Youtube

  • @moahmedish I it was Jean Paul Goude the father of her child

  • weird but fabulous.............................

  • I don't wanna like this music if it means becoming apart of all this Gaga hate. :(

  • I wonder if Gaga still listens to this.

  • I am begining to realise that all passion has been taken out of music and culture these days.Theres no soul left now in the west. Maybe there will be a renaissance. However this could well be the best music video ever made. Its excellent in every artistic way and full of passion and rebellion.

  • Its a lot going on in this video that it really doesnt make sense to me. but i guess all art doesnt have to make sense.

  • This is a good piece of surrealist art in its own right.

  • Wario Ware Inc.

  • GACE JONES!!! ORIGINAL DIVA!!!

  • This is by far the most creative music video in my opinion and I remember when this video premiered and it was rumored that it took over a year to get it completed. And..... give it up Lady GaGa...... because you'll NEVER COMPARE to Grace Jones!!!!

  • @introducing68 You are absolutely spot on. My step grandmother is from Trinidad and reminds me of Grace Jones (I'm English). She travelled all round the world with my Grandad in their retirement and this song and video, especially the intro, always makes me think of them taking off from Heathrow airport and flying over their house in Old Windsor, England in a British Airways Boeing 747 jumbo jet!

  • @introducing68 STFU! GaGa ISN'T trying to compare to Grace or anyone else for that matter. BOTH are great IMO, now STFU, & enjoy the music!!!

  • @loveunderlaw -Hush little child and tell your mommy to STFU!

  • Yeah! The car scene! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The car scene at 1:46 was used by Citroen (the car is a Citroen CX) as a car advert in the 80's.

Wacky car, wacky artist. I love both.

  • woo saw this song live at bluesfest 2011 she got up on stage with a hula hoop and sum poofta knocked down the hoola hoop

  • Grace Jones is the testament that nature gave us, the perfection exists, and can be human.

  • Ian McShane has one of the best voices ever.

  • This is art.

  • She's ridiculously beautiful. And another example of what a big phoney Lady Gaga is. Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Madonna, Cher, Wendy O'Williams, Grace Jones et al... all these iconic guys and gals are where Lady Blah Blah gets her 'originality' from.

Gaga couldn't emulate Grace if she tried.

  • Grace Jones has always been fearless. That's what I love about her. Her style has been copied without being given due credit.

  • veeery nice videoclip

  • This is definately a good example of audio art mixing with visual art.

  • what the fuck did i just watch?

  • @GroddGuerrilla You just watched a masterpiece of 80s video. Totally WTF but brilliant.

  • SHE ROCKS!

  • Wow...

  • great

  • that citroen is quite nice

  • is that lovejoy? it sounds like him

  • 13 people have no clue what art, music and genius are.

  • One of the best songs of all time in my view....

  • "and now ladies and gentlemen,..heeeeere's Grace"....!

  • Grace Jones and this video used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid, lmbo! but I loved watching it bcuz I loved the music and found the contents of the video interesting. Never seen anything like it.

  • GaGa's place is too remind us how short peoples memories are and you don't need to actually come up with anything new to be considered unique. No one will even think to look back to see where you ripped it off from.

  • damn theres no comparison, this is not an intelllectual generation.hell, pop might eat itself even...

  • And why was the comparison to GaGa necessary?

Do you even know how young GaGa is?

And she is an icon because of her message and philosophy.

Grace Jones is awesome no doubt, but GaGa has her own place in the music history. She represents our times.

And don't forget it's just been like barely 4 years.

  • Simply the best Video in the History.....

  • Sorry Lady Gaga.....you have nothing on Grace (yet)

  • Grace Jones used to freak me out when I was a kid, but I already knew she was unique. Now I'm 28 and I TOTALLY think she's amazing, like a female version of David Bowie.

  • Grace Jones is a GODDESS.

  • am i High.?

  • very entertaining to look at and listen too..just read she is coming to open the haque jazz here in Holland

  • Grace is everything the hacks of today could never be.

  • iSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No one else could sing this song sexier than Graces Jones.

  • this sista is bad...I LOVED THE HAIR!!!!

  • Grace Jones. Yeeeeah!!!!!......

  • Do you find me sexy Rocky?

  • That was NUTZ!!!You cant even classify that.Just Delightful

INSANITY!!!I remember when this came out.I had nightmares for a week!!!!

  • the audio is stuttery in parts . . .

  • I'm as straight as they come, but Grace Jones music fascinates me. Very original, from 1980 on.

  • ART

  • Totally love this song. Grace is THE original artist.

  • implusewithmiggyvee4. i agree with what your saying. and im 37 yrs old i grew up in the late 70's 80's early 90's awesome times for music. today music in all genres is so watered down. it's crazy. inbox me we can chat more about this.

  • it's been a while since i've been glued to the screen like that. a true artist!

  • Grace was never mainstream. that's the thing. her videos were odd, for sure, but she was different to gaga. she had a bit more class. she did wacky and she did it good!! GaGa is an amateur in comparison!

  • :-)

  • Man, when a music video was captive and creative. Days gone by...sadly.

  • Originals get copied from Grace Jones to Debbie Harry but we all get inspired by people who have gone before its just a shame I haven't Seen any origanal female artists that has blown me away in the past 30yrs, Don't get me wrong I like some of the female artist of the past 30yrs but can take or leave them So that is saying something about these two iconic woman as their music and style is timeless and inspirational. Cherish true talent it doesn't come along that often these days.

  • ENOUGH! Yes Lady Gaga is not a TOTAL original...but that's life. Recycling. History is in constant repeat. So everyone shut up...enough with playing the cynic! Just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. I love Grace...I like Gaga. Both unique. Both performers. Enough with the comparision crap.

  • In that way, Gaga is a perfect mirror for this generation, reconstituting moments of originality and re-processing them through a narcissistic prism using the language of pornography - pretty much what every other teenage girl (and, increasingly, boy) does with pictures of herself on Facebook.

I could go on about this all day and this isn't really the place is it? Maybe I should start my own blog...

  • I wouldn't mind Lady Gaga copying Grace Jones or Madonna or whoever, if she just did it with a modicum of wit or intelligence. The reason Gaga is shit is not because she copies; it's because she trots out the same tired quasi-porno imagery upon which the image makers for female singers have been over-reliant for years and years, then embellishes it with a frisson of "weirdness" borrowed from the likes of Grace or Bjork....

  • I'm pretty far removed from the texting, facebook gen. but if people are comparing gaga to grace jones i'm LMAO.

  • i Love the part where she looks into the cannon and comes out white! such a beautiful video LOVE IT!!

  • she so trippy!

  • There's been MANY great ones, but...possibly THE greatest music video EVER!

  • cool voice over intro by Ian McShane

  • kill lady gaga!!!!!!

  • shes got great voice, xxxxx

  • So this is the one that Gaga copied, I can see it now...

  • WHO WAS THE DIRECTOR OF THIS AMAZIN VIDEO...?

  • brings back memories of childhood in the 80s.....I was always impressed with Grace Jones.....even at the age of 7....

  • DOES ANYBODY HAVE GRACE JONE'S "DON'T CRY - IT'S ONLY THE RHYTHM" INSTRUMENTAL??? IF SO - CAN YOU POST IT? I USED TO HEAR IT ON A LOCAL JAZZ STATION YEARS AGO - IT SOUNDS WEIRD CAUSE OF THE WAY IT'S RECORDED....IT MAKES YOU THINK SOMETHINGS WRONG WITH YOUT SOUND SYSTEM. LOL...IT'S A COOL JAZZY TRACK....IF ANYONE HAS IT, PLEASE POST IT. THANKS

  • Lady Gaga steals from Miss Grace Jones every day and today's college crowd doesn't even know it! They think Lady Gaga is original, but Gaga is a mere thief, or at least a copycat. It is Miss Grace Jones that should have one billion YouTube hits, not the copycat.

  • @caymuspour please keep the cats outta this

  • they say lady gaga is orginal ph pls she copied Grace Jones style! G8 song! XD

  • @miggyvee..All of the artist you mentioned were groundbreakers. There will be no others after. History repeats itself in many forms. Gaga/Rhianna etc are the Grace Jones and Madonnas of your generation. There are great new artists out there, you just have to keep your eyes and ears open for them.

  • This video makes me wish I grew up in mid 80s France.

  • @elementz1986

That would just be like growing up in early 70s England. Shit cars, everyone on strike and crap clothes.

  • so true bud most music now is a copy and crap,,, they no idea on writting own stuff

  • Very moving song

  • does anyone els think when the Citroen comes out the statue head it looks like a car ad for a second

  • @TheDEATHSTARIII I think Grace weas a spokesperson for a car company at the time and that's why they did that but i'm not positive

  • Truly a masterpiece! I absolutely love it's originality. I had this song playing in a recent party I hosted. Everyone loved it. By the way, 3:25 is my favorite part. I just feel like grabbing a sliver platter with h'orderves and spin around like that ughhh. I wish I was a teen in the 80's.

  • I'm tired of people trashing gaga. Why do we have to trash one artist to bring up another? They are both impressive in their own ways, and I love Grace. I liked her before I was really hip to Gaga, but guess what? It's possible to appreciate both! I really love this song, so full of joy. Let's just get over it, it's not that deep. If anyone is swagger jacking, it's Rihanna.

  • @musicdragon75 preach on,Gaga copies certain things from Grace but Rihanna copies her head to toe

  • @DaxShaw You know that's a GREAT point, I never realized it before, but "Rated R" in its image, at any rate, takes a lot from Grace, and its swagger as well, not so much the music style, but the themes. Interesting... lol To me the only thing Gaga may intentionally take from Grace is some of her style ideas and that's it, her music is more like early Madonna and Ace of Base then any of Grace's records.

  • @thewordthatpierces Very true, Rihanna's copied Grace overall while Gaga has just copied some of her style but never her music.

  • I came of age in this era and largely dismiss the 80s' pop culture as silly and vacuous - but I love how Grace Jones owned and celebrated her strength and beauty. I am tall, strong, muscular, flat-chested - and beautiful, but it took me a loooooooooong time to appreciate it. Let's hear it for Grace.

  • @marybarone98 i love how u said that, so true, shes beautiful in her own way and different,. you dont have to look like "the standard " to be beautiful

  • "Mil conceitos"...magnífico!

  • MiggyVee..u said it all in a Rant n Massive Respect(secret handshake) for tha comment..postin this tune on facebook to entertain/educate tha masses on wot u av on ur I-pod(or ovva mp3..i dont advertise lmao)..thanx ;-)

  • i was dancing to this at 17 in an enigmatic club called the starck club in dallas tx as i watched her perform the song. she is force like no other. amazing. i will never forget it. i simply cannot get enough of this video.

  • Never Stop The Action!!!

  • Best video ever. No doubt about it. Where the talent of this caliber today? I mean who is gonna watch one of today's videos 25 years from now? There's several versions of this on YouTube, totaling a million hits!!! And who can forget "Boomerang's" Strange?

  • gracias por joderme la mente...

    merci pour boise ma tete

    thak for fuck my mind

  • This would had been a Great James Bond 007 Theme, to me.

  • @maureencora1 Interesting you say that because this song was released in 1985 when "A View to a Kill" came out and Grace Jones was the villain in it. :)

  • @maureencora1 Yes I totally agree.

  • you're right there! Nowadays everybody's just sampling everybody & everything, no new ideas, no risks. It's like a bloody interbreeding, an incest - well we all know the outcome ...

  • Slow people are not going to get all of the symbolism in this video. People who don't want to put themselves in another place for a moment-and we're talking 25 years ago. The black girl putting her head in a cannon and comes out looking like Marilyn Monroe? Check the images at the end of the video. Great job Jean-Paul Goude, Trevor Horn and Miss Grace Jones.

  • @Auntkekebaby You're so right. The whole'83 to '85 period is still derided and certainly the DayGlo visuals have dated, but Grace Jones, Frankie and a host of others had a totally unique take on the iconography of previous decades: mixing adulation with a new understanding of the exploitation involved. It seems that nowadays icons are, like the emperor's new clothes, iconic before history has had chance to have a say. Lady Ga Ga anyone?

  • @Auntkekebaby It's a great tune and a fun video, but you're reading far too much into it. Although original footage was shot for this, it was discarded in favour of a compilation of clips from TV ads for brands including Citroen (with Grace driving) and Orangina. Greatest video of all time? Personally I don't think it's even Grace's best.

@wilkobangs Yes - Ian McShane does the voiceover.

  • @seedy69 Yeah...OK A collage can tell a story. Also, I didn't say in was the greatist video of all time. Read the comment again. My opinion hasn't changed. Nice to here from you.

  • One word comes to mind, after watching this video for the first time: LOLWUT?!

  • Totally agree, The video, the images, the music, the voice EVERYTHING was better in the past in the world of music and i'm 25 years old. This is the very best song of Grace in my opinion, i followed her since she acted in Conan, then with her disco sound ("I need a man", etc) and now that i hear her 80's music i'm really amazed how talented, creative and versatil was this woman. i dont know why she never became as famous as others SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO :D

  • Brilliant!!! Just about says everything you need to know about the life of a (dark) African woman..and don't let her be famous. A childhood favorite.

  • A true DIVA!

  • Thank you Grace for alwaze keepin it "real'. This piece will haunt me forever!

  • black guys in whiteface are awesome

  • cant be a randomer/awesomer vid

  • Lady Gaga is my girl, but she ain't got shit on Grace!!

  • i just love this video. she turned disco music into electronic music.

  • what year was this song out? i say 83

  • 2:27-2:30 child porn?!?

  • LOVE her!!! But the albums is hard to find; do anyone know about any shortcuts? Live in Norway...:)

  • just amazing,

  • Great album...And I can't remember the name of it !

  • the original lady gaga.ladies and gentlemen grace did it way before lady no talent ever thought about it.she needs to bow down and praise miss grace for the influence to be her

  • @mikehiphop42 NO DOUBT!

  • super!!!!!

  • Will people stop Fucking Bringing up Lady Gaga!!!! Im 22 and i hate the generation im in its so Fucking Ridiculous. Everyone just Copys everyone and People today are such damn Puppets. When will i finally See some Originality like this ever again! Where is the Elvis of Today The Beatles and the Who that changed a Generation where are the Michael Jackson's that Dominate and shatter all musical Records. When will we see the next big thing that no one has ever seen before!

  • @impulsewithMiggyVee ... This is by far the best comment i see in a while..

  • @impulsewithMiggyVee I need more friends like you my age because I'm 21 and you took the words right out of my mouth about how I feel about my generation lol

  • @impulsewithMiggyVee

YOU have seen through the smokescreen of the 'pop lite' clture that surrounds you. YOU are already decades ahead in understanding than 99% of your age group. So it is down to YOU to make the difference. USE the anger, the frustration, the passion, and channel all that energy in to YOUR OWN CREATIVE MUSIC and FASHION statement.

The world will always step aside to let the bold push through. SO BE BOLD, BE ORIGINAL and STAMP YOUR MARK ON THE WORLD! Good luck ...

  • @ACinDorset Wow thanks buddy that really made my day. Thats why im in Film school at the Nyfa. haha As a Child i only grew up to oldies music and Old films so non of the Fads and Mainstream really struck me. Kinda immune to it hahah

  • @impulsewithMiggyVee Hey good luck with film school- New York is a fantastic place for inspiration. Studio 54, The Loft & CBGB all gave birth to disco, punk & hip-hop at about the same time... its high time for New York to rise like a phoenix and take the lead in music, film & fashion once again.... dig deep, find truth and beauty, and you cant go wrong. All the best. (ps- if you like MJ- look at Bob Fosse, Snake in the Grass) ... Cheers
