Palestine was land they owned. many jews fled there during the holocost era as there were at the time plenty of jews living there. they ended filling up so much of the land that they decided they wanted to govern themselves there (kinda like a referendum).

the muslim population wasn't so willing to just say "you can have that land" and there you have it...

The problem is at least 85% of the entire arab population of Gaza/WB and about 65% of the entire arab population of Israel supports the indiscriminate murder of Jews.
